Our beloved Htown was founded way back in 1836 and purchased for only a buck 40 per acre....and every year Goodwill Houston honors their employees success with their Moreton Achievement Awards Luncheon!

and eighty seven years old today.Yes, a couple of brothers from New

York came to town back in eighteenthirty six and purchased sixty six hundred acres
right in our area on August thirtieth, eighteen thirty six for a dollar forty.
It's gonna say it was a littlemore affordable back then. Crazy.
And to celebrate, we don't havecandles on a birthday cake. We've got

a super blue moon tonight. Themoon is going to appear bigger and brighter.
It's a super moon and they callit a blue moon because it happens
once in a blue moon. Wow. So there you go. So Happy
birthday, Houston, Anthony Dean.We always talk about all the great Goodwill
does for our community, and Ilove how they also celebrate those success stories

from within every year. This month, some of those success are honored at
their Morton Achievement Awards luncheon, likeGary, who spent three decades in prison
after being convicted of armed robberies.Well, now he's a dock worker at
Goodwill Houston and also ministers to peoplestruggling with their own challenges. Then there's
also Denyitria. She's helped hundreds ofvets in the decades she's worked at Goodwill.
She's given the men and women ofher armed forces the opportunity to build

a successful life in the civilian world. Currently, she heads Goodwill Houston Academy
for Career Development, and she's inspiringeveryone she meets with her commitment to putting
the needs of others first. Andthen you've also got Jacoby, who was
on a good ride when he gota college scholarship to play football, but
then lost it all to a drugaddiction. Well after he got clean and
paid his debts, he's now turnedhis life around, and now this Goodwill

Houston manager is working towards his bachelor'sdegree over at u of AH. You
know, it's just amazing to seeall the success and love that Goodwill Houston
takes this time to honor all itsoutstanding achievers each and every day. I
