Sunday ninety nine point one Dana with producer Anthony. We've
got Houston's best variety of the eighties, nineties and today
and the three things you need to know to get
your first day of August started. Well. There is a
big event going out at the Fallbrook Church on Walters Road,
which is now closed and it's going to be closed.
(00:22):
This is near Spears Road. It's going to be closed
until four this afternoon. There is a celebration of life
today for late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee at the Fallbrook
Church and Vice President Kamala Harris is doing the eulogy,
and so there's going to be lots of traffic in
the area. The event actually begins at eleven, but the
road closed this morning at seven point thirty, So just
(00:44):
be aware of that. Okay, what's the cost of cleanup
after Hurricane Beryl, And we're just talking debris cleanup alone.
The estimate one hundred million dollars and they're working to
get the debris picked up. If you need your debris
picked up in your area, call three one one and
get on that list. And it's here. Houston's Centerpoint Energy,
(01:06):
their new power outage tracker CEO said it was gonna
be here August first, and it's here, and it's live.
It's gonna show real time status of your outage. It's
supposed to be mobile friendly. It will integrate weather and
how the weather might affect your power outage. And it's
cloud based. You can check it out Centerpoint Energy dot
(01:27):
com and your weather today. It's gonna be calm and
hot today. We've got that Saharan dust kind of affecting
the air quality. We're gonna go up to ninety six today,
no rain right now eighty and uptown and you're up
to date from Sunday ninety nine point one. Can tell
me something good brought to us by our friends at
Goodwill Houston. When I get to Galveston and I see
the water, I'm ready to jump into just like this
(01:50):
little guy did. He was so excited to jump in
the water when dad took the family on an impromptu
trip to Galveston. They live in Waco. He runs into
the water. Anthony, he's nine years old. He forgets to
take off his prosthetic leg o. The leg gets caught
up in a wave and it is dislodged and gone.
(02:12):
Jase is like, wow, he's getting ready for school and
he needs his legs. So the family and dad Ken
Swindell asking anybody if they find the leg, please get
in touch with Galveston Beach Patrol. They've got their address
and their contact information, and he's like, we've got to
get that leg back for school. Someone's donated a wheelchair,
(02:35):
but the leg just makes it so much easier.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
They've also set up a go fundme and the title
is It's All About the Leg. Their goal seven thousand dollars.
That's how much the leg costs. They've already raised over
seventy one hundred dollars so far, so showing some love
to nine year old little Jase. Hope he'll get that
leg back. Producer Anthony Dan This is awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It feels like just about every year we have a
local Little League Houston team coming within reach of a
trip over to Williamsport for the Little League World Series,
and this year we're shown up again. This time it's
our Lamar Little Leaguers. They're headed to Waco for Regionals
with an opportunity to reach the game's biggest stage. This
is so exciting. Leftfielder Aiden Taylor says he feels like
when he gets to school he can finally brag they
(03:18):
finally did it. So if you want to keep up
with the action, Lamar is headed to Marvin Norcross Stadium.
They actually got there on Tuesday for a couple of
days of practice and now later this afternoon they'll be
taking on Mississippi in the Southwest Regional game. First pitches
at four pm this afternoon. You can watch the action
on ESPN Plus, but you can also download this app
called Game Changer. This will let you track the scores live,
get played by play updates.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Go Lamar.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Little Leaguers rep in the Houston area and setting their
sites on the Little League World Series.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
That is so exciting it is. And I want to
talk about the Saharan dust now. We've been experiencing it
over the last several days. Yes, there is the bad
part of it, it reduces air quality. But there is
something very good about this Saharan us too that I
wanted to share. It limits tropical development, Yes please, It
(04:06):
creates the most gorgeous red sunrises and sunsets, and it
helps our marine ecosystem. So don't be disin our Saharan dust.
Today we're experiencing a little bit more and once it
goes away tomorrow more rain is coming. All those sunsets
are amazing. They are, they really are. So we always
(04:26):

(04:49):
your favorite subjects is. We've got James calling in from Baytown.
What was it for you? James?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
English?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
And Wow, what was it about English that captivated you?
Speaker 2 (04:58):
It had to be my teacher. It was kind of
a corner story. But she when I started high school
my freshman year, she get advanced up in grade levels
as we went up in English as well. So I
had the same teacher for my freshman all the way
up to my senior year. That is so cool. That
was really cool.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
So what's your teacher's name?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Was Miss Brookerson and What was.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
It about her that you loved so much? I mean
that could have been work the other way as well,
and you're like, oh my god.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
No, no, it was great. I loved her. She always
had a smile on her face. She was always happy
and cheerful to see everybody, and I learned a lot
from her. She was one of my best teachers, and
I'll never forget her.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Oh that is beautiful. You know how many teachers are
listening right now and you just kind of made them
realize how important it is to come in with a
smile on you and a good attitude, because there could
be tough stuff going on at home and a teacher
could really be a bright light, right right, Well.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I mean it's a they're a human too, and the
way I like to see it is they have one
of the most important jobs in the world, teaching young people.
So I really respected her, and like I said, I
haven't been to school in almost twenty years and I'll
never forget her.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
That. Wow, James, thank you so much for sharing. I've
got goosebumps. I do well.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
You take care.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I'm glad you called in and thank you for listening
to us.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Cool. I listen to you guys all the time. Thank
you very much,
