First day of school today and they've got a back
to school guide for those of you really concerned about
the bus routes after seventy nine were canceled. It gives
you a lot of bus information. What bus do I ride?
That's the section there. You can go to CFISD dot
net for all the details. Well, they promised they'd do it,
and they did the first of sixteen community open houses
(00:38):
from Centerpoint Energy. They're going to have these all around
town and it's to try to improve service after that
massive power outage, prolonged outage with Hurricane Barrel. So Saturday
with the first one, then they're going to have the
next one Thursday night at the Pasadena Convention Center and
it starts at four, runs through seven. It's part of
(00:58):
their resilience initiative and cooling centers all around town after
this heat advisory continues through today. Houston Area Library's best
place is to go except the one downtown and free
rides to cooling centers. Community centers will have them as well.
You can dial three one one for help if.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
You need it. They're really great to work with.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
There your weather today, it's going to be partly sunny.
Hot heat advisory going up to one hundred and two.
That's the official high. Then it's the feels like is
going to be around one hundred and ten plus right
now eighty one in uptown in Europe.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
To date on sunny. Tell me something good brought to
us by our friends at Goodwill.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Houston Texans meet the Giants Saturday preseason game at ENRG
twenty eight to ten.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
And I also love the fact that Truth Barbecue now
serving at Energy. I met Abigail at Royer's Cafe one
night during the Antique Week several years ago. I had
no ideas she would go on to marry Leonard Leonard
Botello of Truth Barbecue, whoa started out in Brenham, a
little bitty smokehouse. Then it is now here in Houston
(02:11):
on Washington Avenue. And now this amazing craft barbecue is
now available at Energy. And I love the fact that
not only do they make incredible barbecue, but they also
help out employees incarcerated homeless if they have the desire
to work, that restaurant becomes a safe haven.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
For these people. Wow. And they're just a wonderful family.
They really are. Produce Sir Anthony Dane.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
There's an East End artist making her mark on the
Htown scene. Her name is Tina Salazar. She was basically
put on the path to create. Her mom was a
skilled seamstress and her dad an amazing artist. So she
trained over at the Art Institute of Houston and finds
her focus in painting and artistic design. She's and she's
been in the demand too. She'd been hired to paint
murals for Joe's Crab Shack, Papasitos Mambo Seafood. She even
(02:58):
painted the gold around the cross as you see in
Houston's co Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Downtown. Now
she owns her own shop called Latina Tina, housed in
the Ironworks Building, where she finds her place to showcase
her creations and her heritage. It's really cool and I
love to hear our locals making their mark on the scene.
You can find her Latina Tina shop off Milbe Street.
She occasionally also makes trips to round Top Dan to
(03:21):
sell her art in some of those markets they own,
they hold, and you can also find her art online
on a site called Society six. Just look up Tina Salazar,
one of our own helping put h town art on
the map.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
We have such talent. And speaking of talent, he's only twelve.
He is like the most popular boy in the world.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
His name is Ryan Kadgi.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
He is Austonian star of the wildly successful kid centric
YouTube channel Ryan's World. He's got thirty seven point five
million subscribers and now he has his own movie.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yep, Ryan's World. The movie Titan Universe.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
It opened on Friday, and Ryan's mom Luanne is like,
I never thought it would come out this big. I
mean he started in Houston, his daily life and then
his trips to Japan and Vietnam. They just wanted to
share his life. They then opened Sunlight Entertainment. It's based
in Cyprus and apparently the movie the sisters get sucked
(04:20):
into a comic book universe and they have to be
saved by Ryan. That's so cool. It's half live action,
half animated. It's called Ryan's World. And the movie Titan Universe.
It opened on Friday. Super cool. We always have our
tell Me Something Good stories up at Sunday ninety nine
dot com and you can follow us on Facebook x
(04:41):
and Instagram.
Speaker 2 (04:42):

and we got an email from Mark, who's listening our boss.
He said, washing the dishes at my local holiday inn
when I was.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Growing up there. Oh wow.
Speaker 1 (05:16):

that's what we're asking you today. And we have got John.
Now you're calling in from Friendswood. You're an assistant principal
though in Alvin, so answer our question. The job you
quit the quickest, and why.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
That's easy. I worked at deli when I was almost
graduated from college. Needed a job to carry me over
for the summer until school started. Started at a deli
at a grocery store, but had some conflict with the
manager and a couple of the work mainly a couple
of coworkers. So I was like, you know what, I
really don't need this, so I left.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Well, now, you being an assistant principal, you're all about
conflict management between students and teachers and students and students.
What was the conflict you experienced working at the dela boy, Well,
it was just a.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Fellow co worker who just kept writing me and just
giving a hard time throughout like every work shift, and
got to the point where it was affecting my family,
and it was just like I can't. I can't deal
with this anymore, not when it affects the family.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
No, no, So how long did you last?
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Two weeks?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Two weeks?
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Well, okay, now you're in the job hopefully of your dreams.
How does being an assistant principle compared to that job?
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Oh, this is like a dream job, Like you just said,
working with the children, seeing them grow, seeing them wide
up when you enter the room. It's an amazing feeling
every day.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Now you've been at work, you're out now, then you've
been at w been back at school for a week now?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Is everyone kind of feeling like they're comfortable and we've
got the strategy down for the year.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
We've definitely worked on our routines and procedures the first
week and we're going to hit the ground of our
content this week and we'll see how smooth that transition goes.
But I think we're going to be ready.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
That is awesome. Do you guys have a school motto
that you all live by?
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yes, Dream, big, game high.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Hey, I love it. I love that.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
We'll keep up the great work, John, And thank you
so much for listening to Sonny. We always keep it
friendly for you and the kids to listen, and that's
our promise to you.

to Sonny.
