Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the eighties, nineties,
and today Dana in the Morning and producer Anthony and
the Three Things You Need to Know to get your Halloween. Thursday,
October thirty first, started well. The dry streak that we
had thirty five days is over well. Starting yesterday, actually
we had some rain. We've had lots of rain on

(00:24):
and off already today, heavy thunderstorms throughout your Halloween day,
but by trick or treating time later on, the rain
should taper off. Temperatures in the seventies. I think it
might just be a perfect Halloween. We'll see a little
scary right now. Well, the US Post Office wants to
give you one hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
They need your help.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
They've got these three thugs that were seen stealing money
from mailboxes at the Montage at Sinkle Ranch apartments. It
happened on October seventeenth. They did it again October twenty first.
Two have been identified. Postal inspectors need your help identifying
the third. Office is encouraging to use USPS resources to

(01:03):
track your mail if you're concerned about whether it was
stolen or lost and Marathon Oil's pending merger with Conico
Phillips is not.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Good news for employees.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
These Houston oil giants are going to have to consolidate staff.
When the deal goes through, they could be laying off
over five hundred employees. And weather today, Yep, another rainy day,
but more rain than yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Today we go up to eighty two.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Hopefully the thunderstorms will start tapering off by trigger treating tonight.
Right now, it's seventy in Uptown and you're up to
date on Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell me something
good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well,
yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with some Chick
fil A owner operators off Eldridge Parkway their location out there,
and they told me of their amazing effort to reduce

(01:54):
food waste. One of the owner operators is Colleen from Trinidad.
She had her first Chick fil A Anthony and thought,
oh my gosh, this reminds me of home. Her dream
was to become an owner operator and now she is.
But when she saw the food waste, it really touched
her heart. So they all teamed up with an organization

(02:16):
called Shared Table, and what they do is they provide
their leftover healthy food.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
To organizations around town.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
One of their recipients called Cypress Assistance Ministries, and their representative, Lakeisha,
told me how their clients light up when they see
that they're going to have Chick fil A as one
of theirs. Always excited, so cool, Chick fil A always
helping out the community.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Producer Anthony Dane, This is pretty cool. There's a local
artist honoring a Mexican art form with an incredibly rich history.
It's called papel picado. It's also known as punched paper.
It's made by skill for skill for artisans using the
tissue paper, a hammer and chisels. And Guadalupe Hernandez is
the Houston artist who's made up his missions preserve the tradition.

(03:01):
His latest exhibit, con Corino at the Houston Endowment, took
two years to complete, was made entirely out of papel picado.
He says the idea behind it is appreciation for his
parents who left their homeland did all these things to
provide for the family. And he actually provides workshops on
this fading Mexican art form. He teaches others The OG
ways via the meticulous process, and he's already got another

(03:23):
project in the works. He's designed a thirty foot tall
papel piccado structure which is going to be hanging over
at the East Aaldean Management District with unveiling set for
November twenty second. Big shout out to Guadelupe Hernandez, the
h town artist keeping a Mexican art form alive in.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
The age that is so cool. And football. Yep, everyone's
talking football once again. North Shore High School.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
They are state title contenders number two in Texas and
their linebacker Charles Ross, one of the fastest athletes in
the state of Texas. He's the speedster at the linebacker position.
His coach Willie Gaston's offensive captain as well. He's a
national prospect ranked sixty fifth over. He is a four

(04:06):
star linebacker. He's also an LSU commit and a huge
part of leading the North Shore team on their incredible quests.
So congratulations Charles Ross of North Shore.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Keep up the good work.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Let's go and we always have our tell me some
good stories for you to check out at Sunday ninety
nine dot com. You can also follow us on Facebook, x, Instagram,
and TikTok at Sunday ninety nine instance Sunday ninety nine
point one Houston's Best variety of the eighties nineties. And today,
Welcome to Halloween. Yeah, it's a rainy day. I'm Dana
with producer Anthony. We're talking about putting costumes on pets.

(04:42):
We learned in our nearly Impossible question at six forty
this morning, only twenty percent of us do it. Anthony
all thought the number would be higher, but I contend
it's because our pets don't like costumes. So the ones
who's definitely for mine, you know, the ones who do, yeah,
dress them up for real, and we're asking you about
costume on your pets. Now, we've got Brianna calling in

(05:02):
from Willowbrook. You're a preschool teacher, so you just got
a pet.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
I actually just rescued a cat from the middle of
the road. But it's still got a cast and everything on,
so I think it too much.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah, wait a minute, So you see an injured cat
in the road, and what what happened?

Speaker 4 (05:21):
It was the middle of Westeimer and I saw another
car go over it, not on it, but over it,
and it looked its air little face up at me.
So I stopped traffic and picked it up and took
it to a vet.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
The oh, I love that. You just made our day.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
All right?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
What did you name this lucky kitty cat who found you?

Speaker 4 (05:46):
We named it Mazo, which is Hebrew for luck. My
husband from Israel.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Ah, that is the most beautiful story. Well, forget about
dress enough. Cats can't stand costumes.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Anyway.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I hope this cat brings you and your husband so
much to you.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Are you rescuing it?

Speaker 4 (06:01):
It is so far.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Oh that's amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
What a story, Hannah, A happy spooky Halloween.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Are you expecting some trigger treaters tonight?

Speaker 4 (06:11):
I'm gonna be at We're kind of a trunk or
treat things, so yeah, oh beautiful.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, Well, we appreciate you listening. Thank you so much,
and thanks for helping out that little kittie kat.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Thank you
