Sonny ninety nine Pieces, I'm Dana with producer Anthony. It
is seven twenty one now on Sunday ninety nine pointy one,
Houston's Holiday music station, and we're talking about credit cards
going into debt during the holidays. We found that fifty
percent of parents in our nearly impossible question regret giving

(04:34):
their kids a credit card.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
And as we turn into adults, have we learned our lessons?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (04:40):
So we're asking you do you go into debt for Christmas? Now?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
First of all, we have Tara calling in from Montgomery,
a medical assistant. Did you get a credit card from
your parents?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
There's no way I got a credit card. Yes, I
give my daughter.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Wait, so you didn't get one from your parents, but
you gave one to your daughter. I did. Yes. Okay,
I'm hearing your voice change a little bit. Do you
feel that regret like other like fifty percent of parents? Absolutely? Well, well, okay, Tara,
did you give it to her because she went away
to college? Yes, it was started actually before she went

(05:17):
to college, to try to be like responsible and fathe
and only emergencies.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
It didn't work out.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Like that.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, you know, we say this is to be used
for emergencies only. I remember my dad saying that. So
when did it all fall apart?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Pretty quickly?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Actually, so what did you? What did you do? And
has your daughter learned her lesson? Oh? She has, because
she learned a.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Lot about her credit. So yeah, you know it was
kind of your goal, right, you wanted to teach her
about money.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I mean, this is true.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Oh man, Now let me ask you this, Tara. Do
you use credit cards for Christmas presents?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yes? I do? And you find that.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Man, because I'm using this credit card, you end up
spending a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Right, Yeah, for sure. So what are you gonna do
about it?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
I mean, we were such givers and we want to
be generous. What's your advice to all of us who
might be in the same boat?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
I know, so I don't think I'll change.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
This is what I do.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
That's how I do it.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
And I just spend all your regretting that that's gold.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I have to pay per call back.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
But she owns it though day. She owns it the
way I am. You're my kind of lady. I love it.
I love it. You are too funny and I'm glad
you listened.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Hopefully the Christmas music brings you a little bit of
debt free joy. Thank you so much, Grace.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
I have a great day you too.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Lets let's sit over to Peerland and speak with a teacher. Kelsey,
did your.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Parents give you a credit card? Or have you given
your kids a credit card?

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Not? No, notable, notable? All right, so you're very smart lady.
Now let me ask you this. Do you use credit
cards to buy Christmas gifts occasionally?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yes? You sound like you're very dish. How did you
learn this lesson? I think I.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Probably watched the mistakes of other people and realized I
didn't want that for myself.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Kelsie, that is so good.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
So with buying Christmas gifts, do you have yourself a
set budget every year that you stick to? Unfortunately, since
having children, that kind of goes out the window a little.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeah, do you?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
But I feel like right before Christmas you're like, I
don't know if Santa Claus brought them enough presents.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
I've got to get more.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yes, exactly.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
I know.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
It's this mom guilt that we have and it's terrible.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I don't know if Dad's had that kind of guilt. No,
and I don't think they do. How many kids do
you have, Kelsey? I have one daughter. What's her name?
Her name is Flandry. And is she so excited for Christmas?
She is very excited. It's the best age right now.
She's five.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Okay, So what does she want from Santa for Christmas
this year?

Speaker 3 (07:51):
She wants a Gabby's Dollhouse game. I'm not familiar with that.
We'll have to check that out.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Well. I hope her Christmas wishes come true. And I
bet she was listening to the Christmas music on Sunny,
doesn't she?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yes, absolutely, I'll do it here, it stick around.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
