Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the three things you need to Know to get your
Thursday Cold. Thursday February twentieth started. So we've got this
state wide freeze, the extreme cold warning. How is the
grid holding up? Well, Urkott says, we can check the
grid real time at Rkott dot com. So I did

(00:26):
looks good. Capacity is still higher than demand. And when
you look at the combined wind and solar graph, it
looks like a cowboy hat. It's kind of crazy interesting
as we get ready for the rodeo.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, wondering that is weird anyway.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
So how long do we have this weather impact alert,
this extreme cold warning? Well, the warning is on until
ten this morning, then it'll come back overnight into tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
We're not out of the woods yet.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
We might have to deal with some bursting pipes because
today overnight it was in the twenties. We're gonna go
up to forty three today. We've got that windchill which
makes it brutal, but then tonight back into the twenties
and tomorrow's high only thirty eight and it could stay colder,
freezing to the north and west of US. So Saturday
is when the warm up begins, all right, So we

(01:09):
just have to get through tonight again and tomorrow and
by next Wednesday sunny and seventy eight, so there is
relief not too far in the distance. Now, we got
a new report out, and unfortunately the state of Texas
gets only a SEA, which is mediocre. It's the Texas
section of the American Society of Civil Engineers giving our

(01:32):
states infrastructure a C. Now, the last report card came
out four years ago and we also.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Got a C.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
So we've got to do something to at least get
a C plus, all right, right, if not a bet,
it'd be nice to get an A right, mean yeah, anyway,
weather today again, cold today, we'll go up to forty three.
We've got this extreme cold warning until ten o'clock this
morning and wind chills making it feel like it's in
the teens the official but you're right now twenty seven

(02:02):
in Uptown and Europe to date from Sunday ninety nine
point one. Oh and by the way, according to a listener,
we have snow and Brenham haven't seen it.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
But that's what she's saying. You're up to date on sunny.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston. Well, yesterday, Anthony, we learned that sugar
Land bought that historical Imperial landmark, the building, the forty
five acres around there.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
The closing is in May.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I mean, it's been a long process and then the
vision will come soon of that redevelopment. Well, now we're
learning more about Dalveston and the Battleship Texas. Okay, Nearly
six months after the Port of Galveston approved a special
committee to work with the Battleship Texas Foundation to find

(02:48):
a long term home for this historic warship, they met.
A portion of the committee met on Tuesday. They voted
unanimously to more the USS Texas at here fifteen in Galveston. Now,
the full board will vote on March fourth, and even
if they vote to approve this, they still have a

(03:10):
lot to think about, just kind of like the Sugarland deal.
Now they've got they've got to still do an environmental study,
They've got to do an analysis of the traffic and
the drudging plan.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
So there's still a long ways to go.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
But they are making progress good in the long term
home for the Battleship Texas.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I love that. If you've never taken.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
A tour, oh god, amazing and we were allowed to
sleep on it.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
It is so cool.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Anyway, We've always got our tell Me Something Good stories
up for you at Sunday ninety nine dot com. You
can also follow us on Facebook, x, Instagram and TikTok
at Sunday ninety nine Euston Sunday ninety nine point one,
Houston's Best variety of the eighties, nineties, and Today Date
in the Morning and producer Anthony So We're focusing on
our kids who are totally.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oblivious to the cold.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
They love the cold, and about raising kids and teaching kids.
And we learned in our nearly Impossible question the hardest
thing for most parents teaching the kids to tie their
shoe laces shoes.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
But for others it was like potty train.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
We're asking you what was the hardest thing to teach
your kids and what was your strategy. And we've got
Katrina calling in from Deer Park. Katrina, the hardest thing
you had to teach your kids go?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
So I had to teach my three year old when
she was in a beauty pageant that life is not fair.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Oh how did you do that for a three year old?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
So everybody on the on the stage, God, there were
only like six little girls in her and her group,
and everyone got a trophy except for her.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Katrinaw, that's de exciting.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, I wanted to cry. She was so confused. She
was like, Mommy, why didn't I get one? And I
wanted to cry on stage with her, and I just said, baby,
these little girls did a really good job. They've done
this before. It's your first one, so maybe if you
want to do it again, maybe next time we'll do
a good job and we'll get one too.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Katrina, that is so wise. How did she respond?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
I mean, at least she understood it was her very
first time.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, that's what I tried to make it about. I
didn't want to, you know, I could have taken a
different route and I could have said, you know, their
dresses were prettier or they were bigger because it was
a local contest and they really prided themselves on like
being natural and just wearing like your Sunday best, and
so that's what we did, and everyone else wore these

(05:37):
big beautiful pageant dresses, and she didn't. And I, you know,
I could have said that. I could have said, they
wore dresses that were big and poofy, and they you know,
they weren't supposed.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
I could have taken that route, but I didn't.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
I said, Baby, they've done this before and they knew
what to do, and mommy didn't know what to do.
Next time, we'll know and hopefully next time will do better.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Why so hard is the story? And what happened? Did
you do it next time?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
We did not do a next one. But she is
so mature, she's ten years old now, and she is
just so emotionally secure, and she's just such a great kid.
When things like that happen, like normal life things happen,
she is so much better at handling them and managing
her emotions about it, and very understanding about things that

(06:28):
aren't fair sometimes.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Katrina, that's amaining. You learned just as much, maybe even
more than your daughter. Right.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yes, that was definitely like the hardest at that time,
and it's still probably the hardest lesson that I've had
to teach any of my child I have three children.
That's probably still the hardest lesson that I've had to
teach them.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
That gives me do wise lady, Now, what are your
kids' names?

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Audrey is ten, valerieus seven, and James is three.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Oh busy, Katrina, keep up the excellent A wise mommy,
and you just helped so many moms by you sharing
that story this morning.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Thank you. I really hope too, because it makes them
into really great kids later on.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
That is awesome. A thank you so much for sharing.
You glad that you listen to us.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Thank you so
