Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday naety nine point one Houston's best variety of the
eighties nineties, And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we have got the three things you need to know
to get you Tuesday, March fourth started well, Houston, TX
dot gov Command overview by HPD Chief no I Diaz.
Lots of interesting facts there and you can definitely check

(00:22):
out the site. He's mentioning issues that Houston's dealing with,
including gun thefts. He is encouraging us to keep our
vehicles locked and guns in safe secure spots. Those guns,
once stolen, are used in crimes. Also, road rage another
issue Houston is dealing with. He is asking us to
please drive with patients. Well, it's the first day of

(00:44):
the rodeo and Riba McIntyre hits the stage tonight and
we're learning some additions to the rodeo lineup. Bunbe performing
for his birthday and that's going to be on Friday,
March seventh. He has invited Yolanda Adams. She is going
to be joining his birthday show. And we have got
a severe storm watch this morning as today is the

(01:05):
first day of the rodeo. But by the time Reba
hits the stage. Actually before that, when we've got the
Mutton busting and the half Scramble, should be clear and
sunny and beautiful, going up to seventy five today before
things start cooling off Tomorrow and Thursday, we'll have sunny skies,
but only in the mid sixties. Today again up to

(01:26):
seventy five. Right now, it's sixty nine in Uptown.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
And you're up to date.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I'm sunny good. Brought to us by our friends at
Goodwill Houston. Well Friedmantown's historic homes have been repurposed. They
are beautiful into art spaces. That whole area is incredible
and it's the Friedmantown Rebirth in Action project. Three homes
built in the nineteen twenties. They of the original structures

(01:53):
have been open to the Houston public, filled with artwork,
and currently in the homes are a couple of NFL players,
while former players now artists and their brothers, the Bennett brothers,
Marty and Michael, and they're always looking for new artists
who might want to bring their art into these galleries.

(02:14):
And if you want to check out the exhibitions that
they have going on, they're open Tuesday through Saturday, ten
to five and Sunday nine till one.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
This is fascinating and something I'm sure most of us
didn't think about it, but one of the big stars
of Rodeo Houston is the dirt. Rodeo dirt is very special,
meticulously cared for and balance for competition. They actually have
a dirt day before everything gets underway, and it's all
dumped by truckload by about forty different trucks until the
floor of energy is filled about a foot deep. And
as you can imagine this dirt, it's a specific mixture

(02:44):
that's different from just regular dirt. It's one part clay
and two part sand. They say the clay helps hold
it together and the sand helps it from becoming too
compacted and then slippery, which could actually hurt the animals.
They even have a new massive facility to house the
dirt after this year's rodeo to help keep it at
the press Seie temperature.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
A lot goes into the dirt at the rodeo.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
So when you're in attendance for any of the competitions
or seated for a night of Reba Posty or Bunby,
remember that dirt you see is very special and a
lot of work. More than five hundred truckloads of work. Actually, man,
that is incredible. Who would have thought about the I
never did.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I love this. We've got to give a shout out now.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Harris County Sheriff's Sergeant rufus Yarborough joined back in nineteen
eighty three. He is now the longest serving deputy. He
has remained a steadfast presence at the Sheriff's office and
he is so thankful he's still standing.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
He didn't do it on his own, though.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
He is quick to say thank you to all the
good people who have helped him, and of course thank
you to God.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
And just to let you know.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
In two years ago he was named the Harris County
Sheriff's Office Foundation Officer of the Year, and back in
twenty seventeen he got one of the World Series rings.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yoo, yes, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
So sheriff a Deputy Sergeant rufus Yarborough, congratulations and you
are oh as far as retirement, He's like, yeah, maybe,
but not yet.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Lucky to have I love that attitude.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Hey, we always have our tell me some good stories
up at Sunday ninety nine dot com and you can
also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, x and TikTok. At
Sunday ninety nine Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best
Variety of the eighties, nineties and Today and I'm Dana
with producer Anthony. We are talking about good days and
in our nearly impossible question at six forty this morning.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
The way we celebrate a good day for the majority of.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Us, we have some chocolate and that's what makes us
feel good. Anthony likes to give people gifts. I love
bananas with peanut butter on them. If I have a
good day and my victorious day includes not biting my nails.
Every day, I don't bite my nails. I go home,
I'm like, oh my gosh, I've actually got fingernails. It's

(04:55):
because a teacher friend of mine mentioned these two words
that if you bite your nails, this could happen to you.
It's up on my Instagram. You have to check it
out at Sunday ninety nine Houston. It is a life
changer if you're a nail bitter. So we are asking
you this morning.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
What are you victorious over?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
It doesn't need to be anything big and earth moving,
just something kind of simple in your life that was
nagging you. And you're like, I've got to stop doing this.
And we have got Diane who calling in. Now you've
got a good day for you? You say, is baking
with chocolate for your family? But it was good for

(05:34):
your family, but not good for you.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Tell us more.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
I used to have a weight problem and now I'm
the then and splim grandma.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Ah, So let me tell you and let me ask
you this. How did you get a victory over your
weight struggles?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
What did you do?

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Car dealing with time and exercise and eating and moderation
and watched what I Ate Good now Diane.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
So she's victorious over her weight. Now what do you
do to celebrate? Since you kind of have to stay
away from chocolate? How do you celebrate your good day?

Speaker 4 (06:05):
I go for a long walk walk.

Speaker 2 (06:08):

a little bit of a fun day as well.

Listen to it every day.

that weight.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Good for you. I bet you feel amazing, Yes I do.

Speaker 4 (06:25):

good day for you, something that you've overcome.

Speaker 4 (06:37):

with my patients, a full load of patience.
