Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the three Things you need to Know to get your
Monday August twenty fourth started. Well, these Houston zip codes
the noisiest parts of our city according to the noise
complaints from HPD, and I'll tell you Sunday they get
the most complaints. The month of May was the most
(00:23):
complaint month and the noisiest zip code seven seven zero
zero four. That's the third ward Midtown, the Museum district.
And you have h second seven to seven zero zero
six Sharpstown. Let's see Gulfton area and Chinatown. And then
the third on the list seven seven zero zero two
that's the downtown Theater District area. It's usually clubs and bars. Yeah,
(00:47):
pausing them, that makes sense, right, Well, this is a bummer.
Reading writing arithmetic at Horn Elementary in HISD has been
tough now because the students don't get it, but because
it's been so hot since school start two weeks ago.
The ac has been on and off at that school.
Kid say, even with the fans, it's like ninety degrees. Well,
the HVAC tech says the system is now working, but
(01:09):
it's slow to cool and triple digit heat continues this week.
And now we've got something to be concerned about. It's
called flash drought concerns. It's a sudden and rapid dry
spell and this week we're going to experience it. Dry
crash and brush could catch fire easily, and the streams
(01:30):
are dropping and that's going to force real pressure.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
On our water supply.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So it's called the flash drought and sow And today
it all starts, and it's going to be like this
right through Sunday, triple digit heat, dry It's going to
feel like one hundred and ten. Right now, it's eighty
and uptown and Europe to date on sunny.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Sunny ninety nine point one with Dana in the morning,
getting your day started, feeling good.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Some good, tell me something good brought to us by
our friends at Goodwill Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, thank goodness, blue Bell to the rescue YEP helping
us through this massive heat wave with another summer rollout
last week, Anthony, it was homemade in the shade, remember that.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Oh man, it's all sunny, so good.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Vanilla with that swirl of chocolate Yeah, this week it's
strawberry cheesecake, cheesecake ice cream with strawberries, chunks of cheesecake,
and a strawberry Sunday sauce on wow elves now, so
stay indoors and scream for some ice cream. Blue Bell
is helping you out. Producer Anthony ban This is this
(02:40):
is fun.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Our friends over at Cinemark have announced they're bringing back
a fan favorite popcorn promotion. They're bringing back that bring
your own bucket promo. Remember this, this is where you
can bring literally your own bucket and have them bucket
right any anything, And this is pretty cool because yeah,
literally anything they sally just get created with it too.
Maybe it's a guitar, a traffic cone, a cowboy hat.
(03:01):
As long as it's only up to four hundred ounces
or a little over three gallons per person, so that's
pretty massive and fun. Fact, a movie ticket is not
required to participate for this promo, so get after it
there bring your own bucket promotion. It's coming back Sunday,
September sixth at participating cinema locations.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
That's fun.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
That is such a great idea, I know, right, And
speaking of movies, by the way, at ten forty today,
I have got four reserved seats to practical magic to
Sandra Bullock Nicole Can Oh yeah, I'll tell you how.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
And you could get your big bucket of popcorn. Is
hyped for that new h Absolutely, I can't wait for that.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
And I love this and our prayers are needed for
a British Astros super fan. His name is George Martin.
He watches the game from London. He watches like ninety
five percent of the Astros games, even though there's a
six hour difference, so some late nights in early mornings. Yeah,
and he's set up a popular Astros Fans UK account.
(03:58):
He'd stay up to watch the the fans he got
or the Astros. He came to town Friday night. It was
one of those rare appearances, and then he suffered a
medical incident. He posted that he's doing well and is
glad to say that he's in very good hands here
in Houston. No word on what happened to him, but
he said the prognosis is excellent. He actually started to
(04:21):
watch the Astros as a fourteen year old in nineteen
ninety nine. He saw them on British TV and he
created Astros Fans UK in twenty seventeen. The first time
he came to see the Astros in person was twenty
twenty three. He met Jose Altuve and he threw out
the first pitch at the sugar Land Space Cowboys game.
(04:43):
And so he was back again Friday night, suffered this
medical incident. But the good news is he's doing great.
So that is and I'm sure everyone at the hospital
they're just like, oh my god, I'm so excited to
see him.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
So prayers for George.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Martin are British Astros fan and we always have our
tell Me Something Good stories up at Sunday ninety nine
dot com, also on the free iHeartRadio app, and I
encourage you to make us a first preset. Makes it
even easier for you to listen to Sunny Sunday ninety
nine point one, Houston's best variety the eighties, nineties and
today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. We learned weather, by
(05:19):
the way, is going to be hot. Yep, we'll have
triple digit heat right through Sunday. Maybe I have only
ninety two a week from today.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
We have a long way to go though to get there.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
No rain in the forecast, triple digit heat today, feeling
like one ten right now it's eighty in Uptown. So
we learned in our nearly impossible question that for some people,
Monday is like the start of.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
A new day.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
It's a new beginning, a fresh start, so to speak.
For forty percent of us.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
That means for the majority of us, it's just.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
A Monday, probably the worst day of the week. But Anthony,
I liked what you said that it's intentional. It's a
deliberate choice, right right to have that mindset, And it
really made me think, Wow, all you have to do
is kind of flip a switch in your mind, and
Monday can be a great day.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
I know it sounds I mean, that sounds easy, right,
but it it really is a mindset. I think it's
it's a total choice that you make. But I think
once you make that choice, a lot of other things
become easier because you have kind of already decided. I'm
I'm going to have a different point of view on
this on what could be a Monday, But it's better
(06:27):
now because I've decided to be positive exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
So I really like that, and I thought for those
of you who have that wisdom and figured it out,
a way. What's the strategy you use to make sure
Monday is a good day, A brand new start, a fresh.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Set and actual fresh start.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah, and it's got to be genuine you know, I
always say fake until you make it.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
No, that's not good. It's got to be a genuinely
good day. How do you achieve that?
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Seven three two, one two five ninety nine one Sunday
ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the eighties
nineties and today.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
I'm Dana with producer Anthony.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
We've got a hot week, dry to triple digit heat
all week and maybe some relief on Monday today up
to one hundred. It'll feel like one ten right now,
eighty in Uptown. And we have got we learned in
our nearly impossible question forty percent of us view Monday
as a fresh new start. But it could be something
that's done intentionally. We have to decide that a Monday
(07:23):
is going to be an amazing day. And we've got
someone who does just that. Felicia very happy on a Monday. Now,
how do you kind of get yourself happy on a Monday?
Do you start this on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday?
Speaker 5 (07:37):
I definitely start on Friday and I plan for Monday.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
So like, yes, so that's a great strategy. What did
you share what you do so we can learn from you.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Well, when it comes to my job, I have to
have a plan, said, otherwise I panic. So it starts
on Friday and I have a vision and I make
it happen throughout the weekend.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Feels great, that's amazing, Like this past weekend. Give us
what would what would it look like your vision that
you practice throughout the weekend. So Monday you come in
relaxed and peaceful, what would that what would that have been?
Speaker 5 (08:12):
It definitely is like a half and half. So you
have to pay a price somewhere with devoting time for
your family and then devoting time to be like, Okay,
I need to sit in front of the computer. I
need to figure out what's going to work for my students.
So it's definitely a balance.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Excellent.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
So, but you do set aside a little fun time
on the weekend with your family and then there's Felicia
work time at some point during the weekend.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Oh for sure. I try to get up really early
so that I can focus do my work, and by
noon it's time for family.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
See, you know, that's exactly what I do.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I feel like I've gotten all my work done, even
exercise before my husband gets up at seven.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Well, you get brownie points because I haven't added the exercise.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Oh, exercise, that's like the icing on the cake that
makes it next level.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
I definitely agree though. I love that.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Felicia, how long have you been a school librarian?
Speaker 5 (09:06):
This is only my second year. I had my degree
for about five Yeah, but it's a tough road for
us with districts cutting back on our positions.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah, yeah, that's right. So what did you do?
Speaker 1 (09:18):
So you got your degree and then you're you've only
been a librarian for two years? What were you doing
before that until you were able to get this, this
job of your dreams.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
I've been an educator for almost twenty years.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Wow, that's fantastic and what a fulfilling job. I mean
you mentioned the kids, and the kids just fill you
up with that energy, right.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Oh, definitely, And being in the library is the best
spot in the whole school.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
What book would you recommend to the majority of students
right now that they should read, like one of your
favorite books that that you think they should read?
Speaker 5 (09:51):
Don't move me? On the spot Love That Dog by
Sharon Creech.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Love that Dog.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yes, got it, absolutely, Aaron Creech, We got it.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Felicia, You're just the best.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Thank you for your energy and let's share a little
bit of your life. We appreciate you and thank you
for listening.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Thank you.

What did you say, A guitar, a traffic cone. That's right.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
And also to talk about movies being back, I happen
to have four reserve seats for Practical Magic too. Nicole Kidman,
Sandra Bullock, I've got that for you coming up at
nine forty this morning. And then we're learning that Spider
Man number one again at the box office.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
