Speaker 1 (00:02):
Just off University. You can find a local jam in
North Park that values great pretzels, Philadelphia sports teams and
giving back name of the place called Pretzels and Pints.
They don't make their own beer, but they provide fun
snacks for breweries all around North Park spend North Park's
go to pretzel spot since twenty sixteen.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Well, day four of Coco and the Community brought to
you by Simper Home and you Brett got to go
visit them, spoke with the founder and the owner, Boomer Michelangelo.
Even though at first glance it looks like a brewery, right,
truth is it's more of a collaborative.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
We're not a brewery.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
We're actually started off as a pretzel shop and we
with that we would wholesale our pretzels to various breweries
and in turn sell their beer.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
And the beginning was pretty humble.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I started off this business by I found a little
niche in the market that San Diego didn't have good pretzels.
I'm originally from Philadelphia, which is pretzel Town, USA, and
I had a little cart that I would pull around
on my little Toyota matrix and sell pretzels at various
tasting rooms throughout San Diego County. And because of that,
(01:17):
we got a lot of interest in our pretzels, and
I decided to, you know, a year later, open up
a brick and mortar.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yeah, and for a beer based business. There was only
one part of town in North Park.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
North Park back in the day, I could some people
would argue still today that, but it was the epicenter
of craft brewery. It seemed like every reputable brewery had
a tasting room or their brewery here in North Park.
And what goes better with beer rather than a nice
(01:52):
salted soft pretzel which he is and mustard. And the
fact that I live here in North Park and my
kids go to a local elementary school McKinley, that definitely
helps too.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Mi Colangelo credits his success to finding his niche.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Business has been good. Business has actually been great for us.
Like I said, we found that niche with great soft
pretzel for all the beers in this neighborhood. As well
as we're a family friendly spot, a lot of young
families in North Park. We are home of the Philadelphia
Eagles here in San Diego, so as one may know,
(02:27):
Philadelphia sports fans are lunatics and passionate about their sports,
so we get that crowd in here. We have a
game room for kids, very casual spot. Just be who
you are coming and enjoy yourself.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, that community vibe is really a key ingredient of
pretzels and pines.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
There's a lot of businesses in North Park that are
very involved in the community. We're very proud the fact
that we sponsored North Park Little League.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
We give money.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
To the Jefferson Elementary, McKinley Elementary, and probably about a
dozen other local charities here in San Diego. So if
there's any nonprofit that wants to hold an event here,
we're always happy to kind of work with them. Actually,
last night we had a Posta in Pints night where
we make a bunch of pasta. We turn this pretzels
and pints into this old fashioned sort of Italian restaurant feel,
(03:16):
and proceeds go to the McKinley School Foundation. So it
seems like every week we do something for the community
and or any charity out there.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
All right, up next in community, speaking of community and
North Park, as we look at Coco in the community
Verbatim Books.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
All right, it's a bookstore. Coco News Time six twenty five,
where we take a look at your Money News with

Speaker 5 (03:41):
Good morning Dan, Thanks guys, Good morning, bad news. It
looks like more of us are sliding backward. When we're
preparing for retirement, employees are reducing their annual contributions to
their four to oh one K accounts. This according to
a new research from payroll firm day Force. And when
it comes to retiring, we now need one point four
six million to retire comfortably, according to the latest edition
(04:04):
of financial planning service Northwestern Mutual. That's from a little
over a million dollars. And Apple discontinuing its high end
Mac prodesktop after a couple of decades. The computer, which
was aimed at really serving video editors and other professional techies,
was quietly removed from the company's website. According to Bloomberg,
that device had been priced at about seven thousand dollars

Big things are happening at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Can when we say big things, well, we mean the elephants.
The new Elephant Valley is there. It is absolutely amazing.
When you go, you step into a one of a
kind world. It's filled with wonder and majesty because you
are so close to these elephants. And what I really
(05:09):
love about it is when you walk the paths, you
feel like you're walking through like a real safari, like
the savannah where the elephants live. Walk among these giants
as the herd's presence transforms your entire perspective. You get
it front row seat. I mean, there are elephants of
(05:30):
all ages and they're very family like. They're swimming, they're splashing,
they're playing, they're cooling off, and they're watering hole. And
remember this, when you stand with them here, you're standing
for them everywhere, because every visit to the San Diego
Zoo Safari Park in Escondido helps protect them in the
world that they call home. Grab the kids, grab the grandparents, everybody,
(05:53):
get on out there. You will love it. Get close
to the elephants Elephant Valley at the San Diego Zoo
