(00:00):
Good morning. I'm Tony Cruz. The PGA Championship started around two delayed as
a man is dead after being hitby a shuttle bus outside of Aalhola golf
club. According to LMPD, manwas crossing shelve We've rode around five am
this morning, and we'll talk morehere with the Dwight Mitchell with LMPD.
I can tell you that there's astory out about an officer arresting Scottie Scheffer,

(00:26):
the number one golfer in the world. That's transpired here apparently allegedly,
But with that, Dwight has noreport on that. I got to be
fair to Dwight and fair to theaudience that it's something you can't talk about
right now, Dwight, So Iappreciate your time anyway, tell us what
we know that happened this morning andwhere the investigation is with this pedestrian that

(00:48):
was killed. Well, first ofall, good morning, Tony. Morning.
Body, good to be back abit out a week or two,
and glad to be back with Yes, we did have a pedestrian that was
struck by one of the shuttle USis near between Gates one and two on
Shelbyville. Road by holl Of thismorning. It's an unfortunate thing that happened.
He was crossing south to north acrossShelbyville Road and got in the center

(01:12):
lang Whiche is a dedicated bus routeand unfortunate to bust and see and then
instruct the individual and he was pronounceddead on the scene in our traffic,
and it's investigating at this time. What I really want to say about all
of it at this point, youknow, we have a very prestigious event
that's happened in our city. We'vebeen blessed the last two weeks to have
two major sporting events happening, andit's very exciting for our city. However,

(01:36):
it does call some inconveniences for peoplewho use Shelbyville Road, and that's
a very traveled portion of the roadway, especially out in that area where residents
are there and people use it tocommute and all of that, and there
are some delays. But in orderto put on events like this, it
does call some inconveniences for folks inthe area. And we just asked that
you use that operable word that Ilike to use all the time, whether

(01:59):
we have any kind we have anythingmajor in our city, and that is
patients and follow the directions. It'slaid out for what folks should do if
you're going to determine, use theshuttle buses to do so that's the safest
way to get there and get inand get out. Follow officers directions that
are out there. And remember they'rehuman out there too, and they're in

(02:21):
danger as well, trying to directpeople who may not be familiar with the
area or just in a hurry. So we have all of those factors going
on, then little rain going withit. So patients is the operable word
there, Dwight. If I'm notmistaken, that particular area is forty five
fifty five miles per hour speed limited. Am I correct on that or has

(02:45):
it been reduced since you know we'vehad this event. Well, obviously with
all the cones in in the area, it is not whatever the speed limit
is, it won't be that doingthese days because with the amount of traffic
we have out there, with theamount of patrons who have in the area,
the traffic just dictates that it's goingto be slower than what the steel

(03:06):
limit normally would be. Anyway, that's why we're asking that you follow the
directions of the offices or security personnelthat may be in that area, so
we can have this event go assmoothly as we can. But unfortunately,
we had an unfortunate situation that happenedthis morning, and certainly our prayers go
out to the victims. Span inthis situation, when you come upon it,

(03:27):
you have to look detailed by detailinto what happened, right, I
mean that's I understand people's being impatient. I would probably be impatient to being
on the bus or whatever the casemay be. But this is a person
who has died, and we haveto look at all the ways of what
may have or may have not havehappened during this tragedy. And it's just

(03:50):
like in any fatal collision we haveno matter where it is or what the
event is, are traffic in it. They're very, very skilled in doing
this and reconstructing and creating exactly whathappened in most instances, and our officers,
I give them tons of credit forwhat they do, and the witnesses
that maybe all of those elements cometogether to give us the picture what happened.

(04:12):
And again, you know, patienceis it. And I know most
people who have a heart understanding andto put maybe the event to the side
and may pay the attention to whathappens so it doesn't happen again. So
I appreciate your time this morning.I know neither of us were expected to
talk about this particular situation, butI do appreciate you joining us this morning.
Have a great weekend. Okay, okay, my friend, you take

(04:34):
care of you too,
