(00:01):
Good morning. I'm Tony Kruz KENTUCKIhad his morning news. Doctor Pat Carroll
is my dentist. He's Scott's dentist. He's a lot of people's did this
and he does a great job.Uh it's time for kadows and summertime.
How you doing, Doc, I'mdoing well. Well. Welcome back,
fireman, Tony. You made itback safely. Well, thank you.

(00:22):
You heard the story. Okay, yes I did, Yes, I did.
Yeah, Hey, yeah. Summersummertime gets to be a little busy
for folks. And nothing earth shatteringhere, but you know, a lot
of times during the school year andstuff, we're talking to parents and this
kind of particularly to like high schoolseniors and juniors and stuff. We're seeing
them and you know, they're havingwisdom teeth issues and they're like, you

(00:43):
know, we're just going to waittill summertime for like, yeah, you
need to get all this stuff donebefore you let you know, let let
your young preeople go off the college. And uh so then they say,
okay, we're going to do thatand then they kind of forget. Well,
summertime gets really busy for like littlesurgeons taking out wisdom tee So my
first bit of advice is, youknow, if we've talked to you about
that, you need to make thatphone call now because the summer is short

(01:04):
and if you don't get those kidsinto the earth, serge they get those
wisdom tees out early. Don't makethat phone call early, like I mean
today, it's gonna be hard toget them in. Same thing kind of
goes for the like kids. We'vebeen talking about younger children, like,
hey, you know we need toget this child of the organonus. We
got the Michies like, hey,you know real busy in school. Doc
can wait till the summer and say, yes, it can. But guess

(01:26):
what. Guess who else gets reallybusy in the summertime orthodontist. So you've
got to really make that phone callearly. And believe it or not,
it kind of applies to us.You know, we have lots of teachers
as patients and lesson say well,Doc, I'm gonna get all that work
done in the summertime. You know, we're as humans, we're always trying
to to postpone stuff and you know, even we get busy in the summer

(01:48):
and it's like, you know, make those phone calls now because, believe
it or not, we have peoplethat work for us that have kids and
take vacations and stuff, so we'renot quite as fully staffed in the summer.
So summertime gets technick for everybody. And we've been talking about dinnerwork,
make those phone calls early. Yeah, that's that's really interesting. So when's
the biggest lull for dentistry when well, it's about between the second week of

(02:14):
August and the first week of Septemberwhen everybody goes back to school. You
know, when people get back thatthat's when they have that trouble. So
that's when we may have a littlebit of a law in our practices.
Were kind of looking around and godid we do something wrong? We took
off, But it's that that prettymuch every year in that time of year,
and then you know, thinking,go ahead, well just can put
a couple other tips. Uh,you know summertime too, just regular sist

(02:38):
for all of us. You know, it gets hot, so what are
we doing. We're drinking salt,We're drinking cold drinks. And then you
know what's in those cold drinks. It's ice, and you know it's like,
okay, please don't chew ice.You know when that drinks throw the
drink. Yeah, I know it'shard to believe, man, but it
does break teath, it does breakan ammel. And as my wife and
my children don't say this, andI don't think it's too bad for a

(03:00):
horny radio. If you're going tochew the ice, go to the places
where they have what they call rabbittart ice. Man, you know that's
the saucer ice. You won't weAnd then you know, also we're drinking
energy drinks during the summer to cooloff, and all these kids are doing

(03:21):
pre pre uh conditioning and stuff. Those are full of sugar. Be careful,
be sure you know you're brushing yourteeth. Be sure you're doing all
those things that you should to keepit healthy. And one more quick thing.
We all get relactive in summer. We're all doing things. Guess what
something something that's happened. Teeth andyounger people getting knocked out. You know
they're out on skateboards or out onyou know, all kinds of stuff,

(03:42):
climbing, jumping. If that toothcomes knocked out, big thing. First
off, find the tooth, grabit by the crown of the tooth.
If there's a munch of dirt onthe root or something rints it off,
don't scrub it. And then ifyou can, if you're there and child's
don't have put it back in child'smouth, call your dentists and get there,
you know, put it in backin the socket, push it up
there, hold it in there andtelling the holds you get there. Uh.

(04:03):
And if that's not available, putit in some milk and baggy and
get to the dentist because we canre implant those things if we get them,
get them, get them in withinan hour or so. So those
are some quick, quick practical tips. But I know that was kind of
quick with anything you you were thinkingabout. I want to talk to you
about something I'd never heard about, and that is swimmer's mouth. Chlorine used

(04:24):
to keep pools sanitary, can causewhat's called swimmer's mouth. Have you ever
heard of that? Yeah, I'veheard of it, and I really haven't
seen a lot of it because wehave been the dentist for a lot of
competitive swimmers U of L and placeslike that. You I have seen a
little bit where you can kind ofget erosion that the the pH of the

(04:45):
pool water is low, so it'skind of if you're if you're swallowing a
lot of water, you're breathing alot of water in and spinning it out.
If you get enough in there,it can start to cause the erosion
of the enamel, where you'll startseeing the enamel getting both in. So
I haven't seen it a lot,but I have read about it. Well,
doctor Carroll's with exceptional dentistry. Yeah, it's it can weaken and stained
teeth. One of the things Iwas reading. I just exactly never heard

(05:10):
that. And the other thing is, uh, you know a lot of
people don't drink a lot of watereither way, tell my wife that.
Well, that's the thing. Summertime, man, use the best thing is
still water. You know, waterstay hot, you can stay hided with
the water. You don't have tohit the gatorade and what you know,
all the other energy drinks and stufflike that. So yeah, tell your
wife to drink the water. Sure. And if you guys need a toothbrush,

(05:30):
come by the office in Louisville Thursday. I'll give you one. I
hear you might better miss that withyour we cleaned it out. Okay,
okay, good enough, all right, thanks doc, Good to talk to
you. Tony, It's always greattalking to you guys. Have a great
