Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning. I'm Tony Cruz News Radio eight forty WHS
with Mike Lyons CN in military Analysts who joins us
this morning. Mike, things have really ramped up between Israel
and Hasblah not to mention the Hamas war, and the
US is sending a small number of additional troops to
the Middle East. Let's talk about that first, Michael. What

(00:21):
kind of truths are we talking about here?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, Tonny, I think you're going to be Special operators,
Jay saw help Americans likely evacuate in the areas in
the north where this combat is taking place in just
in case Israel does decide to do some kind of
ground and cursion, but I don't think they will do that.
But they're not We're not sending large formations in order
to backfill or anything like that. And also some intel

(00:48):
forces likely to see kind of what's going on to
make sure we have a sense of what it really
is happening on the ground, so you know, we'll see
you look at C seventeen manifests, some of them are
coming from four Campbell mostly for again special operators doing
that kind of mission where they're going to get Americans
out should they need to get out.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
So with that, let's talk about the UN. They want
to have a special session here today when President Biden
addresses the UN. What do you think is going to
happen with that, Well, it'll be a lot of.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Show and it'll be a lot of virtual signaling. But
it's not stopping Israel from what they want to do here.
As from what happened October seventh, this is kind of
phase two of that whole operation with these two aggressors
that sit on their border. They have virtually bled out
Hamas now in the south as they are looking to
find cinema and making sure that Hamas does not have

(01:44):
any way to come back. And they've been strategically and
you know, very methodically taking attacks inside of Lebanon and
hes blog going after that military operation as they've been
just as antagonistic in some ways since that date in October,
forcing Israel to move civilians out, the firing thousands of rockets,

(02:08):
killing children and soccer fields and the like. So the
bottom line is, you know, this is a very scripted
strategic campaign that Israel is conducting right now. Weren't this
kind of phase two of it? Where as we've see
in them going after leaders. They're going after their military supplies,
and its course is being blurred as this is just
Israel attacking civilians. That's just not what's going on.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yeah, well, it's interesting to note that is Hesbaalah like
Hamas in the stand in that standpoint because a lot
of people were saying in Lebanon they have nowhere to go,
they can't escape is Hesblad kind of keeping the reins
on people moving from where they live and those kinds
of situations.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, they are in the situation in Lebanon is similar
to Gaza, but it's five times as big. The Hezbarah
military and militia's probably fifty sixty could GetUp to one
hundred thousand UH in terms of your troops. There's this
more population, they have more equipment. You know. Both of
these terrorist organizations are funded by Iran. They're designed to
to harass Israel. They're designed to keep Israel honest toes

(03:14):
by the Iranians. This is on purpose, that's their proxies,
and Israel again has just had enough of it. The
Lebanese armies pales in comparison to what hes Block capabilities are,
and the Lebanese people are health hostage to it. It's
just a bigger it's on a bigger scale. And and
for whatever reason, that message has not been conveyed through
the press, through the media, through what's happening in the world.

(03:36):
And we're we're at lad Reins repeat of trying to
find some moral equivalents to them, the Lebanese people being,
you know, not subjected to Israeli terror attacks. It's just
not the it's just not the case. This is this
is combat and Israel's trying to defend itself.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Mike Lions has going to be on CNN today at
nine o'clock. He'll be on with the with them and
Mike obviously a military analyst for CNN. Mike, I've had
so many questions, so a little time. Let's start with
how does Israel continue fighting in so many battle theaters
if you will, You've got five different nations. Of course

(04:13):
they're not hand to hand, you know, with the necessarily
you know, in Syria or on, But what is it
like and how long can they sustain.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
This this pressure on the Israeli population. If they decide
to do more ground off right operations, for example in
the North and Lebanon, they're going to have to recall
reservists that likely fought on the south in Gaza. Already,
they have to fight strategically across borders against the Houthis
who launch missiles at them. You've always has the Iranians

(04:42):
overwatched there as well. Very difficult, very challenging, and we
can support them. I think we need to continue to
support them as they fight just for their really their
own survival. At this point the only true democracy in
the Middle East, and what I'm seeing is just this
resolve that they are not stopping and they're not going
to be pressured bytions, are not going to be pressured
by other countries in order to you know, continue to

(05:05):
take away the military capability of their enemies, it said,
you know, frankly right on their borders.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Well, and to that point, nen Yahu said years ago,
over a decade, I suspect that Israel would attack around
before allowing them to have a nuclear weapon. Is that
what they're concerned about most of all?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, No, absolutely, And again both of these terrorist organizations
has Blah and Hamas were built by the Ranians in
order to be this kind of buffer to have to
wear down Israel in order for them to be weak,
so they would never be able to do that should
the time come. You know, these our nations just have
never gotten their stuff together. Because had has Bela on

(05:42):
the north and the Hamas in the south attacked at
the same time, then Israel would really be in much
more difficult shape than they than that they are right now.
But but what ended up happening is the attack in
the south was just too successful in Israel decided that
we're going to destroy himof that's their mission right now.
So the same thing's going on with the North. Now
they're going to do whatever they can and weaken them.

(06:04):
Now Iran can step in and say has Blah, you
need to back off because they need to make sure
that they save them because they still rely on them
to be this antigonus for Israel. So so many forces
acting on these different situations, You've just almost got to
watch it day by day.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
We've seen that Qatar or cutter however people say it.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt now are saying the Israel needs to stop.
Is this is something that you could see other nations
Middle Eastern nations start working or release funding all these
other states.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, I think that the problem is if py Israel
does stop then then cutter, then turns around and funds
Hamas again and you know, lets their leadership live there,
and you know they're back in that same old cycle again,
which Israel is just not accepted. So that's what's happening,
and that's why in this case, the world needs to
recognize this, this this whole you know, escalate to de

(06:57):
escalate that Israel is doing and you know the States
now is against that because we're just against any level
of escalation. Well that's you know, escalation is how we
won the Second World War. There's so many historical analogies
that still give Israel, you know, courage to move this
mission forward. They're not stopping in the south with Hamas.
They're going after Cinema and now in the North they're
going to make sure that their citizens can return, and

(07:20):
they're going to remove all the military capability that has
blow haus along the border, and they're just not stopping.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
This seems like this is Israel's last stand either they lose.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, that's a great, great way to put it, and
there's a lot to that, and that's exactly right. If
they stop right now, if the momentum stops with Israel,
especially in the South. You'll see that that will be
they'll come under criticism for what happened in October seventh.
I mean that was a tremendous failure. Likely this current
administration that they have there is voted out of power

(07:52):
because of the level of investigations that will take place,
but that this is right now a war for their survival.
They're executing, frankly, from my perspective, perfectly if they want
to live to fight another day.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Always appreciate talking to you, Mike. Thanks so much. We'll
look for you at nine o'clock with CNN.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Thanks, thanks for thanks for having me all right
