Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are two days away from Christmas. Welcome in everybody.
It is Coffee and Company Field with Thornton's here at
News Radio eight forty whas Kentucky and This Morning News
on December the twenty third, and it is it is
wonderful outside fifty six degrees at five six as we
get this show started. This is this is awesome. I

(00:22):
know the rain isn't fun for really anybody, but I'm
enjoying the warmer weather this week, which I didn't know
if I would, given that Christmas feels like it should
be cold and snowy. But I think the early hit
of the winter weather that we got at the beginning
of this month that was enough for me, Like I
got my fix, Scotty.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
You did and it scratched that itch. I think for
a lot of people, where even me, I'm a cold
weather kind of guy.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
And I was like, okay, I'm done. I'm done.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
And I had the same feeling you did when I
walked out this morning because I had to go to
my car in the garage and usually I can tell
what the temperature my garage were.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
It's the same indside.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, And dude, I was like, okay, I can deal
with this.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, I uh, I mean it's it's just nice to
not you know, have to bundle up quite as much
and wait impatiently for the heat in my car, which
I say usually works pretty quick, but when it's five
degrees outside, you know you want it to be warm
right away. So yeah, it's it's everything nice.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Everybody wants a snow day and tell you that sugar
rush wears off about the snow day, and then you're
home with the kids and you're like, Okay, I got
to get out of the house.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I got it, but it's too cold to get out
of the house.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So I think we got our sugar rush out of
the way with this pre Christmas, got us all on
the moon for Christmas, And as I was telling you yesterday,
with Christmas being later in the week, it just feels
like it's taking so long to get here.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Maybe that's just me.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, I'm I'm very happy that the days have have
aligned the way they have this year and the we
talked about it a little bit yesterday, but Friday got
to be one of the least productive days for the
workforce in America. Given the fact that if you are working,
or you're really working, Now, there are certain jobs that
there's really no way you're not doing the same exact

(01:58):
thing every day because of of what you do. But
you know, those nine to fivers in the office setting,
you're probably one not going to work or taking the
day off, or you're going to work, and you're saying
to yourself, yeah, we're on autopilot today.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, that's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
We and my other gig we had our Christmas lunch
in yesterday, and so everybody kind of, you know, said hey,
merry Christmas. I doubt there's going to be anybody there today.
I'm personally taking a vacation day.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Good for you.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, And so I think a lot of people have
kind of punched out. I mean, this is kind of
a freebie for most people. And two, you know, you
look at those vacation days. I learned years ago that
that's part of your salary. And if you don't take
those days, that's on you. But you need to be
taking those days. Yeah, And nine times out of ten,
your employer is going to get by. If I'm not
speaking for everybody, but nine times out of ten, like

(02:45):
you said, for some of us nine to five ers,
you know, your employe's gonna get by without you go
take those days.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I was giving to my wife a hard time yesterday
because she gets quite a bit of vacation with the
with the job she's had for such a long time,
and she never added z any days for the holiday.
She just takes what she gets and they do a
half day Christmas Eve. She's off Christmas and that's it.
And you know, she can do what she wants, but
she chooses to use like, for example, she does Black Friday.

(03:13):
Sure she takes off because she wants to have her
shopping day. You know, she can do that, that's her thing.
But like she's working a lot of the time, I'm off,
and I'm like, I'm gonna be you know, not that
I don't enjoy spending time with my kids, but while
she's working and I'm enjoying the downtime that I get
off work from the holidays, it just doesn't feel the same.
So I told her, hey, start using your days for
the holidays so we can actually spend it together, which

(03:34):
we're going to we have throughout. We will have a
great Christmas Day. But as somebody who used to just
hesitate and sometimes just not really utilize my days because
I would just be worried about being away from a
big sports thing going on. This is the first year
I've genuinely used the bulk of my time other than
my full week vacations that I do in the summer.
That like, this is awesome. Yeah, it's easier to get

(03:57):
into Christmas. I feel like because you know, I'm not
as I've had a lot more time off than usual,
and you know clearly that focus turns to, you know, enjoying,
enjoying the holidays.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
So I'm like you and and John, you're a new dad.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I just remember the days I would take days off
and sometimes it was easier, especially when my kids were those.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
I loathe the toddler years.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
In full disclosure, I thankfully she's not quite a toddler yet.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I get it. So I would come to work to
get away from that, Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
And so it's just I love and see my wife.
She's polar opposite to me. She loved the toddlers.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I'm polar opposite of you.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
I am.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I am depressed at my toddler years of my children
are gone.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Scott breaks my heart.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I don't miss I'm looking back at all the like Facebook,
damn you for always showing me what was posted two
years ago, three years ago, because I see my little
ones and I'm like, they're not little anymore. It's breaking
my heart.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
See And to your point, though, now I'm more connected
with my kids than I ever have been, and we
share stuff that I never when my.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Kids were toddlers.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
The stuff we share now granted their young adults now,
but I never ever thought I would be sharing.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
This stuff with my kids.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
And it's amazing when your kids start to mature and
the things they kind of take hold of.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I'll be there one day, I'll take your word for it,
but I'm not ready yet.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
There's nothing wrong with that, dude, there is nothing you're
You're right there with my wife.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
She she tells me every day she goes. I just
miss it. I'm barely ready for Daisy to crawl. Scott,
I mean, John, you're and you're gonna have fun. I
don't want to. I don't want to paint that as all.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, take Nick's advice when it comes to toddlers, because
there are parents that and I'm not saying it was,
you know, first world problems. I'm not saying that. I
absolutely like dreaded life. While my kids were toddlers. I
did enjoy those years. But if I have my choice,
I prefer now.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's two different worlds for you.
And you're clearly are in a good spot now obviously
where like you can you can shoot that you know
what with your son. You know, he's he's a young
adult to where uh it's it. You know, that's a bond.
I'm sure that is a special thing that you don't
really know what it feels like until you're there. As
far as knowing that, yes, he's still your little boy,
but he's also a young man.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
And yeah, so I it wouldn't have happened.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
And I'm a little sensitive to it now just because
the Christmas element of it, right, Like my kids still
like Christmas.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But to see, you.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Know, when they were a little bitty when they were
opening presents, it makes me it's it's a real shame
that that they have to grow up.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
But hey, it's like it doesn't change, bro, so he
doesn't change. We are we're busy today, fellas. We actually
have a game, yes, the Big Beans Ball at two. Yeah,
and the Jeff Brahm conversation. We haven't had it on
the show this week. We will today, and there's clearly
some worry from Louisville fans that Michigan is going to

(06:34):
make him an offer and that he would have a
tough time saying no because obviously Michigan is a better job,
with much better resources in his profession. So we'll talk
a little bit about that.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
I will not mislead you as if I've got any
kind of intel about what's going on, but obviously, uh,
that name Bram has come up quite a bit in
the Michigan chatter when it comes to who's going to
take over their program, So we will certainly talk about that. Also,
the Mid City Mall is it is, what's going to
become of it. We now know another big tenant is
moving on Baxter Theater, which of course has a lot

(07:03):
of folks sad. Also some charges coming in from a
Jefferson County Sharess deputy following an internal investigation. We'll get
some details on that as well. And then we got
to talk Kob a little later on how about Mail
winning the King of the Bluegrass out at Fardale. So
again we're loaded this morning. It's a Tuesday, just a
couple of days away from Christmas. And we're gonna make
the most of this morning, so stick with us. We've

(07:23):
got traffic and weather updates coming your way. Right here,
right now, Bobby Ellis will tell us how the roadways
are looking. And again we hope you stick around right
here at news Radio eight forty whas. It is five
nineteen Here at news Radio eight forty whas coffee and
company with you, and we are fueled by Thornton's just
a couple of days away from Christmas. It is the
Eve of Christmas Eve, which I will say, yesterday I

(07:46):
was out and about and a lot more people out
and about than any other day.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Now.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
I didn't hit any any of the malls at least,
I mean, I actually did go to the outlet shops,
but I was just there to pick something up and left.
So I was kind of kind of thinking, yesterday, you
know what if I was really wanting big crowds and traffic, which,
by the way, who would want that, right, But it
did kind of make me sad that that that doesn't
really exist anymore like it used to, you know, with
the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season from years past.

(08:14):
But yesterday, as I'm sitting in traffic, frustrated, trying to
get somewhere and I'm running light. I'm thinking, yeah, you
know what, maybe it is better if, like you know,
it's not this busy. But today, today's like the real day,
This really your last day, because obviously there's some things
you can do on Christmas Eve. There's some stores that
are going to be open, some people have to work,
but you're gonna be limited as far as just you know,

(08:35):
everybody being open, trying to take advantage of some last
minute business that people are gonna give you because they've procrastinated.
So just keep that in mind, all right. Also, keep
my friends at the lots of men's clinic in mind
when it comes to helping you be a happier and
healthier man in a variety of ways. Low testosterone, erectilitis function,

(08:55):
weight loss, therapy, Perone's disease. They've got a lot of
ways they can help you, gentlemen. And I'm sure many
of you don't ever feel like you need any help
because you're a man and you're tough, and there's no
way you could lack testosterone. You've got testosterone for you know,
for days. But maybe you don't, and you may not
realize it because it's hard to know, but the signs
they're there. And if you're somebody that feels like you've

(09:17):
lost your edge, maybe you are not getting the same
results at the gym that you used to get. It
could be because your body's no longer producing the same
level of testosterone. And if your levels are not in
the range for your age range, it could It could
make you feel like you're ten years older than you are.
It could make it to where you're following the same
regiment in the gym and the same eating habits, but

(09:39):
yet you're you're developing man boobs and belly flab and
all that. So again, cannot recommend them enough. They've been
around for over ten years helping hundreds of men in
this community, and I can tell you they've helped me,
and I know they can help you too. So check
them out online at Lieuilvin's clinic dot com or give
them a call fibo two four four four four thousand.
All right, go to look at the roadways here from

(10:01):
Bobby Ellis, and also we'll talk some sports. Scott Fitzgerald's
gonna be back with another sports update, so stick with
us again at his Coffee and company.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
We are fueled by Thornton's right here at news Radio
eight forty whas.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
So the numbers were drawn for last night estimated one
point six billion dollar powerball jackpot, so thirty six fifty
four eighteen three forty one with a red powerball of
seven and a two times powerplay. So check your numbers
and if you won, Merry Christmas. I mean, come on.

(10:36):
So the estimated cash value seven hundred and thirty five
point three million dollars, and that ranks as the fourth
largest in the powerball game, the fifth largest among US
lottery jackpots. So if no one did win, there was
no jackpot winner, it's going to grow again for the
next drawing, which will be tomorrow night, Christmas Eve night,

(10:57):
at eleven pm. So the odds of winning the top
prize are at a miserable one in two hundred and
ninety two point two million. So I mean, imagine being
the winner of that on Christmas time. I mean that's
I can't. I can't, I can't imagine, But somebody's gonna win,
and uh, best of luck to everybody who plays. My
wife's been all over it and she's still so adorable

(11:18):
as if anytime she's picking those numbers and hitting submit,
she's already thinking of what she's gonna buy with all
that money. And we will very we're very unlikely to
ever win. But she has fun playing. And you know,
I guess it's true what they say, right, one of
the most legitimate, hard to dispute, easy taglines. Somebody's gonna
win might as well be you right, you can't win

(11:40):
if you don't play. So again, maybe there is a winner,
but if not, we're looking at the next drawing again
being tomorrow night. I'm trying to see what the actual net,
what the estimated number would be if in fact there's
not a winner, But maybe we'll see that later on
a right, So, one of the stories you heard there
in the news update from John Shannon is is in

(12:00):
regards to an arrest of a Jefferson County deputy and
it's a scam that involves vehicle inspection. And I was
just thinking to myself, you know, what, what would be
the end goal here? And it I mean, we don't
know the exact details, but the investigation what they they
have said is that this investigator, this this SHARE's deputy,
who is in charge of of who works for the

(12:22):
auto inspection unit. They started investigating him because they had
some some tips coming in that he was not actually
reviewing these vehicles. He was not actually doing the job
of inspecting them to of course sign off that they
are able to be to be out on the roadway.
So he submitted a large number of these inspection forms
for vehicles that they were able to determine never entered

(12:43):
the inspection a lot. So they observed an unknown individual
that placed a folder on his desk the share the
SHARE's deputy uh and while while he was not at
his desk, somebody has dropped the folder off, and then
when he returned, he filled out some forms, placed them
back into the folder and stored it in his desk.
But that folder was later recovered and allegedly contained five

(13:06):
completed inspection forms attached to vehicle titles and copies of
driver licenses. That that for vehicles that these that these
investigators say that were never actually inspected. So if you're thinking, okay, well,
why would what does he get out of doing that, Well,
my my guess would be is that he's he's somebody
that has the authority, right, He's got this signature in

(13:27):
his position to pass the inspection. Well, I think some
some shady folks. And again there's one person that is
mentioned specifically as being involved here, uh and these Yeah,
it says here that the rest records indicate that the
Shares's deputy admitted to forging inspection forms for a forty
year old man by the name of Nelson Ojeda, who

(13:47):
police say there they know who he is. He's been
accused in the past of forging documents related to salvage vehicles.
So somehow they got to this SHARE's deputy and uh,
probably were slotting him some My guess is that they're
slotting him some money under the table, and that's how
they're able to bypass this process that clearly is a

(14:07):
legal process that you have to go through in order
to get a vehicle cleared to be on the roadways.
So again, not the first time you've seen somebody in
a position like this that can't help themselves as far
as maybe utilizing that and financially benefiting from it. But
more often than not, you get caught, right, So, this

(14:29):
individual's charged with second degree forgery, second degree perjury, first
degree official misconduct and has been suspended without pay. While
this criminal investigation plays on, so Jefferson County Clerk. The
newly appointed Jefferson County Clerk, David Yates, did praise the investigation,
saying that this misconduct was uncovered, it's part of an
effort to improve accountability and efficiency, and he did thank

(14:51):
the Sheriff's office for the swift action. So I've gone
through the process before. I bought a vehicle in another
state and had to go through that inspection process. It
was something I was very unfamiliar with, and it's thorough
and it's something you gotta do. And clearly there's vehicles
that would probably not pass inspection for for legitimate reasons,

(15:12):
right like maybe it's maybe maybe it's stolen vehicles. Maybe
you know, I wouldn't know what goes into actually you
know what they're fully inspecting top to bottom. But clearly
they knew that they wouldn't be able to get it
done the right way by the book essentially. So to me,
my guess is that they paid somebody to help them
do that, and now they're all in trouble. All right,
let's get to a quick time out. We'll bring in

(15:33):
Ory O'Neil on the other side, catch up with him.
This morning, Happy Christmas Eve Eve. It is December twenty third,
and you're hanging out with us here at News Radiate
forty whas. It is Kentucky in his morning news here
at News Radio eight forty whas Coffee and Company Fieldbeth
Thornton's appreciate you hanging out with us. We also appreciate
Rory O'Neil for making time for us once again this morning. Rory,

(15:55):
what can you tell us about the press conference yesterday
President Trump?

Speaker 4 (15:59):
And say, Terry Hexith.

Speaker 6 (16:02):
Yes, they announced a new battleship class. Believe it or not,
The USS Defiant would be the name of the first
of two ships they are putting in the pipeline to
bring back the idea of having a battleship in the
American fleet. Perhaps the President said as many as twenty
twenty five of these kinds of ships. You know, technically,
I think most analysts say it's not really a battleship.

(16:25):
It's just a bigger version of the destroyers that we
currently have out there. But they say these signs of
firepower are significant and want to bring them back to
the navals fleet.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
What would you say has been the most consensus reaction
to this news as far as I mean, was this
on the radar for people that we were talking battleships again, Yeah,
that was a new one.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
I think that we weren't really figuring that and a
lot of Look, most people say, there's a reason we
don't have battleships anymore. They're big, they're slow, and that's
not how we fight today.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
They sound.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
They do, I know, and they have a game. You know,
you sank my battleship exactly, Yeah, you know you sank
my destroyer doesn't sound as good. But and frigate is
a favorite word of mine that we have. That's but
they're actually getting more of those two. So it's funny.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
So while they're going bigger for new battleships.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
The Trump class battleship, by the way, shocker that again
the first one would be called the defined And now
the president says they might have this up and running
in two and a half years. Now. Look, the Zumwalt
class was the last class. It was the last new
ship designed by the navy. It was another failure has
been and it took something like twelve years to develop

(17:40):
and build. So to get this done in two and
a half seems a little unrealistic. We'll see if we
ever see a Trump Class battleship.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Rio Neils our guest joining us here at NewsRadio eight
forty Whas holiday travel, it's expected to be one of
the busiest ever and the TSA's trying their best to
prepare for that. What it lead to this specific holiday
season being the busiest ever? Is it just hey, next
year is going to be the busiest ever and then
it'll follow or is there anything specific about twenty twenty
five here that has everybody wanting to travel this holiday season?

Speaker 6 (18:12):
For the most part, we keep setting record after record
unless there's something that happens like COVID, there's some big
economic downturn, like we sold with the Great Recession. So yes,
they are expecting more record travel that's underway for a
two week period. Also, the way that the holiday falls
on the calendar, you know, having Thursdays the holiday for

(18:33):
Christmas Eve, that sort of makes it Wednesday, and then
all you have to do is take Friday off and
what boss takes it come back on Friday?

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Right, got to be one of the least productive work
days for a lot of folks. There are certain industries
that it doesn't necessarily matter what it is you do,
you've got to show up and do the same thing
every day, regardless of the time or the date. But
if you're nine to five or in a cubicle setting,
or certainly in a sales side of things, I would
imagine it's a light work day for a lot of.

Speaker 6 (18:59):
Folks, absolutely, and everyone put in that request for that
day off. So the calendar also helps drive a lot
of this, saying, oh gee, I can you know we
can make a good family vacation up at this time,
or I'm do the same again by the way, over
the New Year's calendar as well, So I think the
calendar is also a factor. But yeah, they are screening

(19:21):
a lot more passengers at the Airport's about two point
eight million people traveled to TSA security just yesterday might
get a little bit higher today as well.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
So obviously the government shutdown led to even more issues
with folks that travel via airline. I thought it was
kind of rich as if we were at least I
don't think it was anybody trying to mislead us, but
just the thought of the government shut down being the
reason you could have a canceled flight or just a
nightmare situation and airport that I've always said the airport
seems like one of the more helpless places you can find.

(19:51):
But obviously the government shutdown didn't help things. We've come
out of that. Has the airline industry?

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Have they?

Speaker 1 (19:58):
If things been running I guess smooth close to where
we were prior to the shutdown.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Is they're about to get bombarded by a lot of folks.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
Yeah, no, you know, because CSA is a government program,
and then you have the airlines themselves trying to manage traffic.
You know, your weather is the big X factor in
all this too, right, if or their computer systems remember
the Southwest melt down over the holidays a couple of
years ago. Yeah, you know, so those things can go
kurfluy and throw everything off. But you know, as long

(20:26):
as the weather holds out, things should be pretty good.
Top destinations are in Florida, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami
one two three, ken kum Put, the Canna and Cazamel
are your top international destinations according to Triple A. And
then the cruises can't say enough how much the cruise
industry was at death's door during COVID, but now is

(20:46):
back bigger than ever. Carnival just reported that it's exceeding
its fourth quarter earnings projections, looking already for record bookings
already on the books for twenty twenty six. As people
say there it's a better value. Your foods included, the
rooms included, you go to different places. You know, they
said that for a value, you can't beat it.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Rory.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
We appreciate your time as always, and uh, next time
I talk to you, it'll be post Christmas, so I
hope you have a happy holiday season, my friend.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Merry Christmas, Nick, Well talk to you next week.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
That's right, Merry Christmas, Rory.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Again, we always appreciate Rory making time for us each
and every morning here. And I know somebody that did
decide to do a cruise for Christmas, which to me
just sounds what that wouldn't feel like Christmas? But hey
may Christmas. Yeah, here you go. How about that? Would
Dwight make you put u?

Speaker 5 (21:37):
He would approved that one, because yeah, I feel like
it was like that's like the perfect dad, like like
you're you're that was probably like you didn't even.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Think about that. It just came out, did it just happened?
It's the dad vibes in you. You're man.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
It's happening, man, it's happening. Good stuff are We got
to get to a quick time out trafficking, weather updates
next right here.
