and happiness and you know, friendshipand all those kind of things. Isn't
that always the best way to gobecause the love is palpable and when people

(00:47):
love what they do, and thenif you're on this album making it with
people you love, and then weget to listen to the end product and
we feel the love. Yeah,I think it shows I really do leave
that whatever you whatever your mood is, and the and the vibe of the
of the experience it's going to it'ssomehow going to transfer to people, uh,

(01:10):
to people's years. And it's oneinitial D. And I love I
love that you just are calling itD. It's you. Yeah, I
mean, that's my nickname. That'sthat's what everybody. All my friends call
me d So there you go.My friends call me e, you know,
Daryl. We couldn't help. Butnotice that this was uh, you
know, recorded and mixed in theBahamas. And it's one of those things.

(01:30):
Where was that necessary to just wantto go to the Bahamas? Well,
you don't have to twist my arm, but no, no, I've
I've had I've had a house therefor years and years and years. Oh
right, and so does Day sodoes Dave. That's awesome in the same
place. Yeah, so it's youknow, it's walking around the corner kind

(01:52):
of thing that is so cool.So do you spend most of your time
there? I've spent as much timeas I can there. Yeah, you
know, life is a complicated,so you know, I have to be
all over the place, and Ihave a house up in you know,
in Connecticut, but I do spenda great amount of time down arbor.

(02:12):
Yes, all right, Well it'scalled Can't Say No to You. That
is your first single out June twentyfirst. But what who can you not
say no to? You don't wantto know? Really, really, I
do want to know, But youdon't have to tell me. Well,

it simple, it's a happy songabout a difficult situation. Yeah, the
best way I could put it.Okay, Well, we're excited for d

one dot com. I'm Russell Ford, Coast one O three point five.

(03:58):
It's a camp miss morning here onthe l K Morning Know holl Of Oates
Public Rivals. We just heard fromDarryl Hall. He's got new music coming
out called d and here he isthe other half locked in. All right,
John Oates, how are you doingwell? How about you guys?
Hey, We're doing great, soyou are on the road, and congrats

(04:20):
on the new music. Thank you, thank you. Yeah. We think
we spoke about this about a yearago when you were in studio and we
knew that you were coming up ona super busy time. But I'm loving
reunion. I just lost my fatherat the age of ninety and my mother
had passed five years before, andhe died suddenly, but his toughest days

(04:45):
were living without my mom. Well, my dad told me that he was
going to be reuniting with our momand who passed away a number of years
ago. So that was really thecapitalist that was the inspiration where it hit
home to me, and I startedthinking about the idea of reunion and reuniting
and you know, considering what's what'sgoing on with me and there Hall,

(05:05):
and you know the fact that we'renot going to be working together anymore after
fifty years. I started really thinkingabout that, and I said, you
know what, it was time forme to reunite with myself and get back
to the essence of who I wasas who I am as a man and
a person. And you know,it's easy to lose yourself in a partnership,
and you know, any kind ofrelationship, whether it be you know,

(05:28):
marriage or whatever it might be.So and so it's been it's been
a very powerful and interesting time forme. And what did you discover about
yourself or rediscover that you thought, wow, I missed this part of me
so much? Was it just themusic making? It was a combination of
the freedom to make my own schedulebecause I've been making solo albums, you

(05:51):
know, I well, this islike seventh or eighth solo album, and
I've been doing it for over twentyyears. But I've always had to compromise
and shoehorn it in between all andoesmitments and things like that. So now
I can stay home when I wantto stay at home. I can travel
when I want to travel, Ican. You know, I can work
when I want to work, writewhen I want to write. It's it's
a it's a real sense of freedom. That's that's completely different. Do you

(06:15):
sometimes think yourself, I deserve thislike I like I am, I'm John
Oates. I deserve to be ableto do what I want when I want
it. Absolutely, I think I'veearned it, you know, I've you
know, I put in a Iput in fifty years of hard work,
commitment and you know, being youknow, trying to be a true professional,
being on time. Never I've nevercanceled a whole notes show in my

(06:38):
life. I really felt like Idid everything I could to make it as
as successful as it could be.And I'm very grateful for that success and
the legacy of music that Daryl andI created. But at the same time,
I realized that that success has enabledme to have creative freedom, and
I don't want to waste that either. So it's a it's a it's a

(06:58):
it's a new time and a veryexciting time. It's reunion. It's John
Oates, a tale of love, loss and personal rediscovery. I love that
you must feel so good. I'mfeeling good. This is a good time
in my life. It's a veryexciting time. But I'm really getting a
chance to spend a lot of timewith my wife, and we're traveling together
and doing things together, and it'sa really it's the payoff after as I

(07:21):
said, a fifty year you know, I took about it. I said,
it took me four years to graduatefrom high school, four years to
graduate from college, fifty years tograduate from Holly Oaks. So I think
you know what we're gonna do.We're gonna play pop in circumstance right now.
Don Oates, all right, thankyou so much, Kingingrats. Okay,

(07:44):
thank you for having me. Allright, Darryl Hall, Jon Oates
fifty years and Oates feeling good.Daryl Hall didn't bring it up. John
Oates didn't hold back, So he'sfree and Oates will be touring the rest
of the year and all next year. They both have new music out,
and what a coincidence that it comesout so close together. And also Daryl

(08:07):
Hall's album is called d Does thatalso stand for in a sense a divorce?
Oh yeah, I know it's forDaryl because he says everyone calls him
du Anyway, let's go back tothe good days. Their first number one
hit. Here it is on Coastone O three point five. You're a
rich girl and you're gone too farcause you know it, don't about it anyway,
