Desalination Delays, Pumpkin Spice Invasion & Texas Chooses Pecan Over Basic"
Monday, August 25, 2025 - Available on iHeartRadio

It's National Banana Split Day, giving you the perfect Monday ice cream excuse, and we're just 7 days from Labor Day marking summer's unofficial end. On this date in 1939, The Wizard of Oz was released nationally, and we're celebrating birthdays for JoDee Messina (55) and Billy Ray Cyrus (64).

Major Local Infrastructure News: The desalination vote has been delayed. Two critical agenda items for Corpus Christi's Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus—our major desalination project—have been pushed from August 26th to September 2nd council meeting. One involves design contracts and costs, the other covers financial agreements with the Texas Water Development Board for low-interest loan funding. Staff say the delay gives council more time to review state regulator responses. This desalination project is huge for our long-term water strategy around affordability, reliability, and sustainability.

Big Renovations: The Ortiz Center at the Port is getting a $17 million facelift. Originally a cotton warehouse when the port opened, it's being refreshed top to bottom and will reopen to the public in January. Meanwhile, Kingsville breaks ground soon on their first new fire station in nearly 70 years—the last one was built in 1955. The new facility will house four emergency vehicles and dramatically cut response times, with completion expected by next September.

Pumpkin Spice vs Texas Taste: It's still summer but pumpkin spice is already invading. DoorDash reveals pumpkin spice isn't Texas's top fall flavor—we prefer pecan. Makes sense: pumpkin spice may be loud, but pecan's got soul. Creamer sales spike 1,400% every fall, but Texas stays true to our roots.

Hero Story: 16-year-old Joshua Gomes saved his entire family when his dad went into cardiac arrest while driving on a Massachusetts highway. Joshua jumped forward, safely stopped the car, and used CPR skills from health class to keep his father alive until paramedics arrived. His dad now has a pacemaker and doesn't remember the incident, but thanks to Joshua's quick thinking, a potential tragedy became a survival story.

BigFrankShow2GO: Where infrastructure meets ice cream and heroes emerge from health class—available on iHeartRadio.
