Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks so much for checking out the Anngie word podcast.
I'm anchie Ward. We really couldn't find a more creative
name for the podcast, so if you've got one, feel
free to dm me at Angie Ward online. On today's
episode of my podcast, we're talking to your ACM CMA
Entertainer of the Year winner, Miss Lany Wilson about all
(00:21):
kinds of Cole stuff, her WorldWind Deluxe album, her Whirlwind tour,
and wedding plans. And I kick things off with the
question I think we all want to know if you
have to choose between bell bottoms or fringe, which one.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
No bottoms every day, but I love me a fringe jacket,
I know. And you know, I read somewhere that actually,
like fringe was like invented, inspired, whatever you want to
call it, years ago when the Native Americans were trying
to figure out how it rained, outs out how to
get the water to run off of them better and quicker,
(00:56):
and when they like cut the material up and made
it into friends, That's what happened.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
That's what happened. Look at that that lessons with Laney.
That's gonna be your next thing. You're gonna teach this
stuff how are you doing. I'm so happy to see
your face.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I'm good, I am. I am excited. I feel like
we just got some really cool things in the pipeline
and coming up. I feel like I've gotten a good reset,
good time at home, a bunch of living so I
can be writing and that's important. So everything with this
Deluxe coming out and tour starting, We're just we're fired up.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
So yeah, your life is turning into a whirlwind right now.
Literally the tour is cranking up.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
You got a lot of dates on that tour too, girlfriend.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
And you know what, what's so funny, Angie? I honestly
looked at it the other day and I felt like,
this ain't nothing. I mean, a couple of years ago,
we were doing one hundred and eighty six shows a year.
So I feel completely prepared and I'm just excited. I'm like,
I feel like even every Fair Festival show that I
(02:00):
got to play earlier this summer, I felt like you
could just see the growth. You could see like people
even starting to sing back to songs that I haven't
really gotten an opportunity to play that much. So it's exciting.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Tell me about the Deluxe. What we've done here. If
we had, we've added five songs. One of them is
Somewhere over Laredo. But tell me about the other songs
that are on there. Why you pick those four songs
other than Somewhere over Theo.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So I felt like I felt like Whirlwind in general
were the songs that I wrote when I felt like
my life was just ninety to nothing trying to keep
one foot on the ground. But I felt like right
when Whirlwind was released, I wrote a batch of songs
that I felt like, we're kind of like on the
tail end of the Whirlwind, when I was really starting
(02:50):
to kind of figure out how I wanted up to
try to navigate this because this life is crazy and
it's not normal. And and for me, when I am
trying to navigate something or trying to figure things out,
is I always just pick up my guitar and tell
a story. And so when I was starting to kind
(03:10):
of get my head screwed on back straight is when
I wrote these songs, and I felt like they steal
were like a part of the Whirlwind. And I do
feel like these songs too, are kind of like dipping
our toes into what's next. So I think you'll be
able to kind of like hear the piece. I guess
you could say the feeling of peace in these songs,
(03:30):
and yeah, I definitely think that they're a step up.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
That's what I was going to tell you. There's one
I got a little sneak peek and peace Loving Cowboys,
and I'm going to tell you this legit. I got chills.
I can't even describe the feeling I got when I
heard it. It took my breath away. I don't it
just it was it was just like this whole like
what it was great. It's great. I love it.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Thank you. I am proud, very proud of that. When honestly,
that's probably one of my favorite songs that I've ever recorded.
I think my band crushed it. Jay Joyce does his thing.
It feels very uh what's the word. It feels pretty theatrical. Honestly,
it kind of just takes you. I did it.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I felt like I was at some I don't know.
I can't even describe it. It was all the fields.
It was great.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I love it. Yeah, all right, So now I have
to ask what is going on At the beginning of
Bell Bottoms Up. You say something in the beginning of
that song.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I'm like, take whatever number. I think you said, five
hundred and seventy three or something like that. So we
got to record this song at Abbey Road Studios in London,
and I wrote this song with my band, and so
it was just a cool thing to be able to
write it together and record it together in one of
the most iconic studios of all time. And we were
(04:57):
just in there cutting up, having fun, and I think
it was probably like take three, but I was just
messing with them and I because it had been a
long day and we had been on the road in
Europe in UK for a long time, so all the
days we're starting to run together, and I think I
just said take five hundred and seventy three and we
kept it.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
They put it on there, they put it on there,
and then we've got We've got King Ranch, King, George King, James.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yes, you know, I feel like, of course I have
lots of songs about trucks, but I can't help it.
I mean, it's it's what I was surrounding with as
a child. It's where a lot of my memories were made.
It's where I've gotten my heart broke, It's where I
fell in love with the radio, and I catch myself too, like,
as my life does continue to change, I catch myself
(05:45):
really holding on a little bit tighter to like those
things that that make me me. You know, I want
to I want to hold on to that inner child,
I guess you could say. And so all of these
kings that I'm talking about have been the kings in
my life, and it's important for me to hold onto that.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I love it. And then obviously somewhere over Laredo, first
time I heard that one too, I was like, oh
my gosh, you know, she took you just took one
of the most iconic sayings and songs and you made
it your own.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I'm very proud of this song. I will say that.
I mean so far it is like our our fastest
growing song. It was like the biggest release. It's moving fast.
It's uh. I think it just kind of like peace
loving Cowboys. It takes you somewhere, and you know, I
get the opportunity to write with such incredible songwriters that
(06:37):
they've kind of they've taught me how to like take
an iconic phrase and at the same time like tip
our hat to a song that is just so legendary.
It's it's one of those songs Somewhere over the Rainbow
that you remember that weird feeling that you got when
you heard it for the first time, or you remember
where you were, and and that's the power of like storytelling.
(06:58):
And so it was cool to be able to kind
of put our own spin on it while tipping our
hat to that iconic song.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Did you ever sing Somewhere over the Rainbow when you
were Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, I try to hit those notes that Julie Garland did,
and I'm like, nose goes.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Not having it over here for sure? All right, So
I'm going I gotta ask you've been You said you've
had a little downtime. Our wedding plans were rolling with this.
You already get married on me, and you just hadn't
told me what happened.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
No, but there were a lot of rumors that we
had already gotten married. I said, we might as well
have just went on the Vegas and done it. Baby.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Well, you know I got married in Vegas by Elvis,
so I highly recommend you. I did. I mean, listen,
we've lasted it's been great, and I didn't have any
family drama. So I love that I said, don't surprised
if that's what happens. I work, I highly suggested Lanny Wilson.
You know I love you. I'm so proud of you.
(07:55):
I've been a Lady fangirl since the very first laed
eyes on you, and I'm just she's super excited about
your whirlwind tour. You're not coming to Atlanta, so I'm
just gonna have to stalk you down somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Come on, you, come on anywhere you know you're welcome, and.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Then uh you, guys. Check out the deluxe album. She
has added these five amazing songs. You've heard one of
them somewhere over Laredo, but the other four are amazing
and definitely, like I said, check out my favorite Peace
Loven Cowboys. Oh
