(00:00):
And we're joined for a few minutesthis morning by Steve Glant, Nebraska Humane
Society Vice president of Field Operations.Steve, good morning. We've met,
you know, and we're talking aboutthis yesterday, and I can't remember the
last time we had such an outpouringpeople have wanted to help with the reward.
And I noticed that the reward hasbeen increased now right to five thousand

(00:22):
dollars. Yes, yes, it'sit's been overwhelming to see the support for
you know, for this uh thisport old dog Leo, and it just
uh social media, you know, the responses are just overwhelming, you know,
support for for you know, thepoor animal, and you know,

(00:44):
supporting our efforts and so yeah,it's it's it's unbelievable. Okay, are
these mostly Is the increase due topeople contributing or what I'm sorry, is
the increase in the reward because peoplehave contributed money? Yes, yes,
yeah, we've had people contributing moneyto go directly to the reward funds.

(01:06):
So yep, that's that's exactly why. So the hard question and I'm sure
obviously there's an investigation. We haveany leads where there's a security camera around
there or not. Yeah, infact, we do. Sheriff Hanson graciously
offered up his resources to assist usin this investigation, namely his latent print

(01:29):
experts, and he's got Prime analysisand detectives helping as well. They are
going to be helping us canvas thearea to check for video cameras that were
in that area. So we're verygrateful to Sheriff Hanson and his people for
their assistance on this. Sure,Steve, I'm sure you've seen a lot

(01:52):
of horrible things, neglect and abuseand so on. This is relatively uncommon.
Isn't it that that that somebody willwill take somebody's pet and abuse it
in a way like this? Yeah, yeah, it is. It is
uncommon to see this, this kindof torture inflicted on an animal. We

(02:13):
had a case last year that thathad some similarities. And but this is
just you know, you mentioned evil, and that's exactly what it is.
It's it's pure evil to do somethinglike that. Obviously, there's probably some
emotional mental issues that may be playinginto it as well. Yeah, but

(02:35):
but this is just not normal,uh, normal for somebody to torture a
poor animal like that. Well, you wonder about motivation and what's going on
inside and individual's had that they woulddo this, and what might they do
beyond this, you know, yeah, take a kid or something. Of
course there could have been a kid, I suppose, right, yeah,

(02:57):
it could have been. You know, we're we're not gonna narrow anything down
at this point. We want tomake sure that we're looking at all at
all angles before we come to anyconclusions on it. So but but that's
that's within the realm of possibilities. But all Leo's doing okay, isn't he?
Yes? Yeah, yeah, gota haircut, but he's doing great.

(03:19):
He was yeah. Yeah. Ourvet staff was fantastic. Yeah,
Karen for for Leo and uh youknow our animal control officers who were at
the scene and rushed Leo back tothe shelter to get the emergency care.
So everybody, uh played a partand and just did a great job.
So do we know who his owneris or is he adoption? The owner

(03:43):
has been reunited with him? Aaron'spictures right there, I got Okay,
I'm behind the time. Yeah,we were able to identify the owner through
microchip, which which you know,I just remind everybody have your animals chipped
if you haven't done so, becauseit allows us to reunite you quickly with
with your pet. If it does, you know, get loose and and

(04:06):
and get lost. So but that'show we were able to identify the owner
through the check you now what Igotta have? We ruled the owner out
as a suspect. That's right.Wait, we're we're looking at We're looking
at angles right now. That's allI can say. I got it.
Strange question for you, Steve,I actually can't remember if I ever had

(04:28):
Teddy chipped? Can I call andfind out? I will there be a
record of that? I think Idid. It's possible you can do that
or you know, if if youwant to to bring your pet in,
we can run a scanner over itand that would tell us right away.
So but if if you have giventhe information to us, we should have

(04:48):
it on files. So yeah,we can check for that. Well.
I appreciate the work you do,Steve. Thanks for the time this morning.
Really appreciate it absolutely. Thank you, Steve Lant Nebraska, You and
Society VP of Field Operations,
