(00:00):
Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson of theprogram, who's been all week at the
Sheriff's Association convention in Oklahoma City. And you may have heard Sheriff Hanson on
with Scott the other day talking aboutsome of the pitfalls and dangers of these
online predators. And I got myhead's up yesterday, Sheriff, you had
a chance, if that's the wayto put it, to look at the
(00:23):
at the video of the October seventha Moss massacre of Jews, and this
was from bodycam perspective. Is thatright? Yeah, So a little bit
of context. So I sit onthe national Board of Directories of the National
shaff Association. I represent Nebraska, and earlier this year some of my peer
(00:44):
sheriffs leadership in the National Shriff Associationactually traveled to Israel at the request and
invitation of Israel in order to understandwhat happened in October seventh. And I
want to make sure I correct youa little bit on one thing. I
said, Gary, when it talksabout the murder of Jews, you know
this was a diverse The victim basewas diverse. These were Muslims, Jews,
(01:08):
Christians, white black, very diversevictims that I saw in this video,
and so the culmination of that meetingthat the leadership sheriffs had in Israel,
they wanted to bring it back.Yesterday morning. They gave a one
hour unedited video presentation to all thesheriffs and it showed unfiltered the brutality from
(01:30):
the perspective mostly of Hamas killers thathad their body cameras on or were live
streaming on social media, but alsoindependent security cameras in victims' homes or on
businesses. It was pretty brutal.I got to be honest, I don't
know if I could watch it.I don't know from what I've heard,
(01:51):
but this gave you. This gaveyou a perspective on what their ideology means
and how much they would love todo the same thing here. And that's
what I wanted to get at.What is your concern and other law enforcement
officers around the country of that kindof an attack in America? Yeah?
Great, I mean that's exactly whyI think the education was there. And
(02:15):
first of all, you know, the brigadier general to gave the presentation,
he was really careful not to delveinto politics. He didn't go, you
know, explain it. His justificationfor what's happening in Gaza. He's very
clear. He said, look, moral lines were coss here, babies,
the elderly mothers holding babies were shotin the head, killed, blown up
(02:35):
with grenades. This is about thevalues over territorial disputes and the values over
politics, values over borders or conflict. And so three big takeaways here.
Number One, this happened Gary, and I think that's why they want us
to take this back to our communities. This actually happened. Three thousand Hamas
operatives came over the Israel boarder withtwo point five tons of ammunition and they
(02:59):
killed thirteen one hundred Israeli citizens. And if that happened in the US,
that'd be the equivalent of US losingfifty one thousand people here if you had
a comparable population. And so inthat sight, including the two hundred and
fifty Israelis there were kidnapped. Andso the takeaways for me are really free
(03:22):
things. Number One, this canhappen, that this can happen anywhere in
the country. It happened in civilizednation of Israel. Number Two, these
folks were defenseless. Israel has verystrict gun control laws. And you may
not realize that. I mean, they're militarized, but in this particular area,
it was very rural and they didnot have a heavy presence of military
(03:43):
and so a lot of these folksthat lived there in homes just like us.
It was shocked to how normal theseliving conditions looked. They were virtually
defenseless. And number three, theonly line of defense to these folks were
the local police, and this brigadiergeneral painted the picture of how crossing guards,
community police officers, traffic staff officersthat normally are literally being dog catchers
(04:04):
or getting kids across the road hadto transition into Chuck Norris. They were
the only line of defense against theterrorists. And actually sixty three local Israeli
cops lost their lives during this attack. Yeah, and they were relatively lightly
armed, right, very lightly armed. We're talking small arms, side arms,
(04:26):
pistols, and they were out gone. I mean, what I saw
in this video, we're talking thesethree thousand Hamas terrorists. And again that's
a proxy of the Iranian government. And by the way, the intel from
the sheriffs and Israel says that Iran looks at this a success. Regardless
of what's happening at Gaza of theWest Bank. I Ran looks at it
(04:46):
as a success. They want totemplate that, hopefully in the US,
according to what Israel's telling us.But yeah, they were up against very
heavily fortified Hamas terrorists. And letme tell you a couple of things I
saw. And I know it's early, and you know it's going to be
hard for people to hear, butliterally, I saw home security footage of
(05:08):
a father with two young boys, ages eleven and thirteen, all in their
in their underwear. Two kids arein they're under roost. This attack happened
at six point thirty in the morningon a holiday, October seventh, and
so you can see the dad's tryingto run the kids through the home.
They hide in a shed outside amost terrorists throwing theirnate into the shed.
The dad dies trying to protect thekids. The kids come out, one
(05:29):
of the kids missing an eye.I mean, it was awful. And
the mother eventually comes home. Isaw mothers holding their children, you know,
being shot to death. I'm asterrif's actually saying, save ammunition,
shoot them in the head, saveammunition, shoot them in the head.
I saw a soldier being decapitated ona body camera video. I mean,
(05:50):
the brutality was astounding. And wehave to be realistic. We are not
untouchable in the United States. We'remuch better off some other countries. But
we have to be prepared. Wehave to be educated, and we have
to be adults about these real challengesand what it can mean. We have
to be armed too. If anybodywho's willing to be that would be mine.
(06:12):
I don't tell people what to do, but man, the big difference
I see there, Aaron, interms of that kind of a threat here
is they had they burst across theborder, did their carnage, and then
they went back to safe haven. There is nothing like that here in the
United States. They would they wouldbe basically on suicide missions if they did
that here. You agree, well, and I agree, And I don't
(06:34):
think a lot of these terrorists werereally too opposed to suicide missions. I
mean, they played, they playedintercepted phone calls of a terrorist. And
by the way, I gotta Igotta paint the picture on the hamas terrorists.
These are young men, they're fit, they look like professionals. They're
dressed in stylish ways. This isnot what you would envision in your head
(06:54):
and what a terrorist looks like. But one phone call they intercepted was a
young terrorists calling his parents bragging, mom and dad, I killed ten,
I killed ten Jews, I killedten Israelis. And the mom and dad
were, you know, celebrating,Yes, go kill more, kill kill
kill. You know, they they'renot concerned about their life. It is
(07:15):
it is a dangerous ideology. Andagain we're not talking about the traditional Palestinian
or Muslim population, they were victimsin this as well. We're talking about
these out of controlled terrorists, Hamasterrorists, I ran funded terrorists, and
they don't care if they live ordie. And then what they care about
is inflicting maximum damage to push theirideology. Sick man, sick beyond belief.
(07:39):
Aaron, thanks so always go tohave beyond all right, Doc's County
