Speaker 1 (00:00):
Pleasure to welcome Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen back to the program.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Governor, Good morning, Gony Gary. How you doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Well, great to have you here. The topic djure not
only here, but it's getten a lot of national attention
as a possibility of Nebraska changing the way it allocates
electoral votes. It would take a special session to deal
just with that, and I know there's a lot of
maneuvering going on behind the scenes. What can you tell

(00:26):
us this morning about the possibility of doing that?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Well, what I can tell you is there's nobody in
Nebraska that wants to do WTA more than I. We've
worked tirelessly to engage with senators and be in a
position to call the special session. It's really really simple.
We have to have thirty three votes. We have to

(00:51):
bring everybody together to be able to get it accomplished.
What I can tell you today Monday morning, we don't
have thirty three votes. Haven't given up hope, but the
hope is getting out the window. We are not able
to get thirty three, won't call a special session until then.
We've worked really, really hard. I think what people need

(01:12):
to realize about WTA that I find really fascinating is
is this mistake was made. We were duped, We were
duped that this was a good thing thirty years ago.
It's absolutely ludicrous. Forty eight other states have Winner take All.
It's absurd that we don't. But we haven't fixed it

(01:34):
for thirty for thirty years because we don't have thirty
three votes. And that's the message for people this morning,
as elections really matter, we need to make sure we
get our friends and neighbors elected who are conservatives who
believed in the American dream, who believe in American values,
and don't fall away from who the heck we are.

(01:56):
That's probably the big one. We're still working on WTA.
We haven't given up, Pope, but there's some strong nose
this morning.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Okay, So by my last count, Gov, you've got thirty two,
at least thirty one, probably thirty two, which leaves thirty
three and the one would be Mike McDonald, the senator
from District five. Have you talked to him about it
and what's it going to take to get him to yes,
you know I've talked.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I've talked to numerous senators. I probably have different math
and you have. This morning, Jim so to you'd have
to ask other senators what it takes them to get
to us. What Nebraskans can know about Jim Kellen is
that I'm consistent. I've said what I've said. We're going

(02:47):
to continue to work to get thirty three votes. We
are not calling a special session until I have thirty
three votes inked in blood. And we don't have that today.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
And blood blood's artist. It's hard to lift that blood. Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
A couple other questions that a lot of a lot
of Rebeblicans might ask Jim, and that is this why
the rush here. In the last two minutes of the election,
Donald Trump has visited with a couple of Nebraska state senators,
specifically one murv Repee who went public with it. Lindsey
Graham made an appearance and an impassioned plea, how come

(03:21):
this didn't happen in January, February or March. It sounds
like they're worried about losing number two.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, I think that one of the things that's fascinating
is there's a lot of issues out there right and
I can tell you this, there's been nobody in the
state of Nebraska that's been across this state more than me.
In the last four years, everywhere four and five meetings
a day, I've had every question under the sun asked me,

(03:48):
and wt's not one of them. WT wasn't w TA
was not brought up until the session was almost over.
So you know, I don't have the answer why it
didn't get brought up till then it was pasted the session.
I said immediately that I was one hundred percent advocate

(04:10):
of WTA. I would call a session as soon as
we had thirty three votes. And we've been working. We've
been working really hard since the end of the session.
But we don't we don't have it. And you know,
when Nebraskans say stay with their conscience said, I'm not

(04:30):
a deal maker, I talked and show my side. I believe,
you know, let's let's not talk about candidates. Let's let's
talk about this is a crystal clear This is crystal clear.
The national election is crystal clear about a progressive movement
that I don't believe in. I believe in border security,
I believe in the American dream, I believe in the economy.

(04:53):
I believe in conservative values and principles. That's who we
are in Nebraska. Nebraska's need to realize. I mean, this
is this is about we have five electric votes, you
get you get two votes for the maturity, we get that,
and then every district, well one district, Well, if this
was such a great policy, why wouldn't all others have it?

(05:14):
I just want to send line with the rest of
the Kitty States. This isn't about politics. This is just
about doing what's right.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Talking with Governor Jim Pilling for another minute, Governor, you
you mentioned that your math and rosies might be different.
What does yours say?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
I'd say we're three votes short this morning.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Okay, you're closer to it than I am. I'm going
on Friday information, but you're closer to it than I am. Yeah,
you got to have thirty three and if you're not,
if you're only a thirty, it's not even close.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
You know, it really isn't even close. So you can leave.
Although we'll see what happens with Senator McDonald. He's got
a lot going on.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Well he's got he's a little bit between a rock
and a hard place. Yeah, thing if if he wants
to run from mayor of Omaha, which he shows indication
that he does, but he hasn't announced anything yet. Governor,
just suppose that things come together. If you did call
a special session, it wouldn't take long. But would they

(06:12):
still have to go through the all of the all
of the regamarole of the committee, the committee process and
the first reading and second reading and all of that.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, the certainly, if we got three votes by the
end of the day, we'd call special session tomorrow. It
would take three days of committee meetings and then the
fastest you can get through is is seven days. And
so that that just that process is the way it is,
and that's as fast as you could get it done.
It'll be very very simple, one issue, one issue only,

(06:44):
nothing else.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Very good.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Okay, Well, the other thing is Govin you look at
the time frame. You're talking one week, well one week
from today early ballots go out. And I'm sure if
it happened and you were in session and it passed
and you signed it into law, and you want to
put the emergent as he claws in so that it's
eligible to effect this year's election. That's about one or
one to fifteen lawsuits teed up by the Democratic Party.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
He worried about that at all this happens we.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Need to get done sooner than later.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Okay, Governor, Thanks, have a great day and a good
week in Nebraska. Always good to have you with us.
Nebraska Governor Jim.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Pillen, it's today they gotta make it happen.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
And now South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who we referenced,
will be joining us in a little under an hour
from now. We had the governor pilling On about an
hour ago talking about the possibility of him calling a
special session to address winner take all or how Nebraska
allocates its electoral votes, and he's not as of this morning.
I'm not optimistic. He because it takes thirty three yes

(07:48):
votes and he doesn't think he has more than thirty
or thirty one right now. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham
came into Nebraska last week, as you know, I met
with some state senators about the issue and joins us
for a few minutes this morning. Senator, good to have
you on.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
You bet so. I thought I saw you I meet
the press yesterday and you navigated that gauntlet. You're stronger
than me. But you said you think it's you think
it's fifty to fifty here do you think you have
any do you have any new information about what's going
on back here if you talked to people in Nebraska.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
Well, I'm hopeful that the governor will keep pushing forward. Now,
what is all this matter? And if she wins Harris
by one electoral vote and it comes from Nebraska, I
don't think most Nebraska's would be happy with that. Now,
why am I involved?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Senator Ricketts?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
And the governor asked me to come out to talk
about the state of the world. And here's the stay
of the world. It's on fire, it's crappy, it's terrible.
It's not going to get better. The border is broken,
the largest deaths among young people in America, and I'm
sure in Nebraska is spent in all poisoning, is all
or surrounded by people that want to cut their throats.
The Biden administration, with Harris's blessing, got a sign of Afghanistan,

(09:06):
which led to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Iranians
are running wild. Biden Harris relieved sanctions on the Iranian
oil industry. They are at one point two being barrels
a day being produced when Trump left there three hundred thousand.
That's eighty billion dollars to go into Hesblahamas in the
Iranian war machine. Israel's on the verge of a major

(09:29):
invasion of Lebanon. If you think she's going to change
his stuff, you should be allowed to drive in Omaha.
She's the problem, not the solution. So I care. I
care about South Carolina, I care about Nebraska. I care
about the world. So to my friends in Nebraska, I
will repeat what I said Sunday. The world is on fire.
You have a chance to make it less likely Harris

(09:51):
would be president, not more likely. You're one of two
states who do it this way. They would not spend
fifteen cent. It's in Nebraska, the Harris campaign. If we
weren't for that one electoral vote, Don Bacon is getting
hammered not just by Jefferies but by Harris and depth

(10:12):
Fisher's in a tight race because all this money coming
in Nebraska has one goal behind it, to secure one
electoral vote. They think it's that important. They're spending millions
of dollars in that congressional district because it may decide
who's president. So I met with a governor, I met
with your senators. I really enjoyed the experience. It was

(10:33):
very nice. I just I cannot stress to you how
important it is to get the country in the world
back in shape. And I think Trump provides the best
solution of that. If we're one or two votes short
in Nebraska to be able to pick up an electoral
vote that may change who's president of the United States,
then we should double down our efforts to pick up

(10:53):
those two votes. It's not about two people in Nebraska,
It's about the world.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
What about Donald Trump making a visit here Senator Lindsey
Graham Apparently he talked to one of the senators, Merv
Repee from Ralston, who's been a rhino on some level.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
There are two others, Tom Brand and Janna Hughes who
have not necessarily signed on to this pledge.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
And then the third one is Michael Donald.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
IRV didn't Nerv.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Didn't Nerv sign on.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yeah, so ty so he Well, let.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Me tell you about IRV. I just met IRV. I
would I couldn't dick Nerv out of line up until
I met him, and uh, nice guy. Yeah, so you
know what he wanted to talk to me about was
the world, about Israel. He's a very big support of Israel,
and he says, what's going on, Lindley, I said, Mirv,
this all started with Afghanistan. When we got out of Afghanistan,

(11:44):
put every terraced on steroids, Russian, the Ukraine, Iran season opening.
And the dumbest thing in the history of dumb is
to stop exporting American natural guests to Europe because of
some climate change fear. Now put as a bigger market
share because we stopped selling our guests to the Europe
to displace them and giving the Ayatola sanctions relief on oil.

(12:08):
Without oil, he couldn't stay in business. He couldn't feel
his war machine. These two things by Biden and Harris
to set the world on fire, and Mert picked it
up pretty quickly. You know I'm not. You've got to
decide what's best for Nebraska. I got a side, Senator.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
They need help.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
If Donald Trump made a phone call to Jenny Hughes,
that might help. If Donald Trump made a fat Tom
So you're you're pretty close to President Trump.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
Well, let's put it this way. Uh. I know President
Trump is called the governor. I know he's just think. Yes,
of course Trump would like to have one more electoral vote.
If possible. I'll let the campaign speak for itself, but
the entire Nebraska delegation signed a letter urging the state House,

(12:56):
for lack of a better term, to change the law
costs so much as at stake. Look at Deb Fisher.
Deb is a great friend of mine. She is rock
solid on national security. You know one thing I believe
above all else, defend the nation first, secure that border,
rebuild the military, and put the bad guys on the run.

(13:18):
Trump did all these things. So Deb's getting hammered because
of that electoral vote. Do you think they'd spent fifteen
cents against Deb Fisher if it wasn't put that electoral
vote to the conservatives in Nebraska? If Democrats were in
your shoes. They do this in a New York minute.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
You've got the Senator Lindsey Graham with us for another minute.
You've got basically a mechanic who was a union leader
running against a two term US senator. And typically this
would be a slam dunk, but it doesn't seem maybe
like it is. Senator Deb Fisher is spending significant money,
a campaign money on this race. What do you know

(13:54):
about it?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Well? I just think you know Dev's going to win.
But we're spending money in the brast that you know
Trump's gonna win by twenty points. Okay, I don't know
this guy who's runn as an independent, but I bet
you he's not. I've never met him. I didn't think
it might of alone up. I would guarantee you he
won't h to tell you he's going to vote for a president.
This is the new way of doing business. And these

(14:17):
red steaks they know Democrats can't sell, so they find
people like this to try to persuade the public. You
know this guy will be part of the problem, not solution.
Dev Fisher is solid as rock. Gets back to my point,
why are they spending money in Nebraska. They're spending money
in Nebraska for that electoral vote. Dev's going to win.
But you know, to the extent that Nebraska can do

(14:41):
what they've been talking about for twenty years, please do it.
It could determine whose president of the United States. There's
the way to get two hundred send me votes for
Trump without winning one of the blue Wall states. But
you got to have Nebraska too.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Did you hear that Tim Walls actually swerved undo the truth.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
We can't afford we can't afford four more years of.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
This Yeah, you know a broken clock is right twice today, Senator,
He's got one more coming sometimes. Yeah, I mean I
agree with him. We can't four or four more years
of this trap. I mean, name one thing that's going well.
Do you think it's an accident? The world's on fire now?

(15:24):
It's policy matters whether you like Trump or not. He
was good on the things that I care about, and
I think Nebraska cares about. Let's change that law while.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
We can just one quick thing before before you have
to run, and I'm serious about that. Who's who's president?
Who's running the concrete right now?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I mean somebody doesn't know.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
I don't know why you know I'm known buying for
thirty years. Let's just put it this way. I don't
know who's running the country, but they need to be fired.
And Harris's sparked. Her fingerprints are on the tie breaking
boats and inflation and Dutch net. She is the last
person in the room on Afghanistan. She sat there as
she board cut at BB's speech. She wouldn't stand behind BB.

(16:05):
That inflames there the Ranians, that's jet fuel on a problem.
She is gonna be worse if you think Biden sped
with Harris, the worst is yet to come.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Senator Lendsay Graham, thanks so much for your time this morning.
Let's stay in time, fix it. Thank you, we got
to thank you, you got it. Here's what I got
to happen today. I think if you, if you care
about this, you got to determine that your senator, whoever
it is, is on board. And if not, let them know. Yeah,
if that's what I mean, what the governor has done
everything you can.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
My my Matt now says Jana Hughes, Tom Brandt, and
Mike McDonald are the holdout. So if they're your senator,
and get on the phone, if you care about this,
