Speaker 1 (00:00):
Remember we are in the month of Returnuary. Shoppers have
already sent back one hundred and twenty two billion dollars
in merchandise that's twenty eight percent higher than last year.
From Bloomberg World headquarters in New York. Coc Courtney Donahoe
for News Radio eleven ten KFA BA.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, and a lot of companies are are kind of
changing their policies on returns now.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Right, Yes, because it is. It costs these companies a
lot of money, first of all in the lost revenue
and in the cost of trying to turn around an
item to be sold again. And don't forget about all
the fraud that people have or a lot of those
people who wear an item out once and then just
return it back. How gross is that? How gross are
(00:40):
you if you do that?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, you mean to tell me none of your friends
ever took a prom dress or a formal dress ward once,
didn't cut off the tag, took it back.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
You wouldn't want to wear the tag to the prom. No,
but you can hide the tag.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Have you done that before?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, Rose, I do that.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
With my formal dress all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
All the formal sweaters.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
But yeah, no, it's uh it's it's a big problem
for these retailers, and many of them have started to shift,
as you said, the way that returns are handled. But
then again, a lot of consumers are saying, if it's
going to be a hurdle in returning something, I'm not
going to go to that company. Because what what some
people do is something called bracketing. And I know I
(01:26):
do that where I buy one size higher, one size lower,
and then I try on the three sizes and return
the other two. But sometimes in.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
The store, no I'll get three.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I'll buy three of them, get it sent to me,
and then try on all three sizes and then send
back the two they don't.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
That sounds like a lot of trouble.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, it is a lot of trouble.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Not a one item of clothing. It's less trouble than
having to take them back to the store. You just
do it in your house, package it up, set it back.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
The one item of clothing where you have to be
really sure underwear. Do you think anybody tries to return under.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Try to return everything?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Oh well, just just keep it. Here's your report, Just
keep it.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, I wouldn't put it past people. People do a
lot of dumb things.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
That'd be brutal. That'd be brutal.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah, you don't want to be doing that. Swimwear is
another one.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
You can try that on.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Well, you better make sure you have a little layer
of something between the swimwear and the goods.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
I think that little piece of paper that they have
in the bottom of the swim suit that is right.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
So I was supposed to remove that. I didn't know.
All right, sweet, you have a great day. I will
check back tomorrow.
