Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome Iowa. US. Senator Jony Ernst back to the program
on the day of the President's speech tonight to a
joint session of Congress. Senator, good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hey, good morning. Great to be with you.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Good to have you here. And you have a special
guest attending tonight. And this is so timely given the
passage of Sarah's law and then the news just a
few days ago that her killer has been captured. This
is going to be a special night.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, very special night. So my special guest this evening
will be Scott Route. He is the father of Sarah
Rut who is the young woman that was killed about
nine years ago, nine years ago in January by an
illegal migrant that had come into this country. He was

(00:45):
caught to drag racing and had blood alcohol limit three
times over the legal level. Rear ended Sarah Route, struck her,
killed her, and was allowed to postpond and of course
never came back for his hearings. He absconded. So Scott Root, yes,

(01:06):
we will be able to honor Sarah's memory this evening excellent.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Do you know if he'll be an acknowledgment from the President.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I am certainly hoping so so I finally got to
Sarah's Law passed. I had authored this law after the
killing of Sarah Root, and it was the first amendment
that was put into the Lake and Riley Act, which
was signed by President Trump earlier this year. So I
do hope that they acknowledge the presidence of Scott and acknowledge,

(01:37):
you know that we are finally putting border security first
and making sure that Americans are protected so that we
don't ever see incidents like Sarah's Again.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Indeed, okay, we have tariffs in place this morning that
twenty four hours ago we didn't how much Shenda justin
do you have over the prospect of inflation because of
these tariffs?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well, you know, oh, there's always a worry out there.
I do hear from a lot of Iowans about this.
This is one of the top issues that I'm hearing
about right now. But we all know that President Trump
is fighting to get Americans a fair deal and we
have seen his strength working. And so just for example,
brazila has had unfair tariffs on American ethanol for years,

(02:23):
and Trump's reciprocal tariff is standing up for our biofuel producers,
something that's the previous President President Biden was absolutely unwilling
to do. So. Trump is really focused right now on
lowering costs for American households, and he's already taken these
actions to combat biden inflation. But again, you know, the

(02:44):
proof is in the pudding. We'll see how this goes.
We do, and I spoke with someone in his Economic
Council yesterday, and what we do know fentanyl continues to
flow over the borders from Canada and Mexico, and so
they've really got a step to the plate, and this
is one way of making them do that.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Would you consider any Democrats in the United States Senate
a friend of yours?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Well, I would consider them friendly.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Would you would you be capable of walking up to
them and saying, do you know what will happen to
girls' sports because you won't vote for this transgender band?
That conversation with any of them.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
They had those conversations.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
They what do they said?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Had those conversations and they are just so I don't
even know how to explain it. They have They don't
get it. I have daughters, don't get it. Oh yeah,
they all many of them have daughters. But I just
I can't comprehend it. You can't comprehend it. We don't
get it. I have a daughter who worked very, very

(03:52):
hard in her sports. She's now serving in uniform for
a great United States Army. She has to work extremely hard,
and the thought that a man could identify as a
woman and take away everything she works so hard for
is appalling to me. They don't get that. They simply

(04:14):
don't get it, or they simply don't care.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I think they get it well, but again, just putting
politics aside, do any of them have daughters who participate
in sports?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Well, that's a good question. I don't know that they do.
I'm sure they're highly educated. But again, it's beyond reason.
And we have had these debates, you know, I've spoken
to them personally, not every single one of them, but
many of them, and it's just it's this absolute ridiculous

(04:52):
left woke ideology that is so pervasive in the Democratic
Party right now. And I would say that is part
of of the reason that they lost in the November elections.
And they haven't realized that this is going to continue
to hurt their party as long as they keep following
this ridiculous ideology.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
It was like they're worried about being primary. Well, it's
voter idea. It's just like voter id. Senator, seventy nine
percent of the country believes you must produce a valid
ID to vote, and seventy nine percent of the country
believes that boys should be on boys teams and girls
should be on girls teams. Where is this lost in translation?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
That's a great if we all knew that, I mean,
we would know the secrets of the world. I don't
get it, And again, I think they're on a losing path.
You know, they just demonstrated here in the Senate when
they filipbustered our Protecting Women and Girls and Girls Sports Act.
When they filibustered that yesterday, the world saw it, Americans

(05:56):
saw it, and yes, most of us reasonable people completely
understand boys should not be playing in girls' sports. And
yet they stood up and defended it. So I think
it's absolutely ridiculous. And again, you know, if we knew
the reason behind it, man, we'd know all the secrets
of the world.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Senator got a run for now, give us a little
wave tonight, Okay, Oh I will.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I will. It's gonna be fantastic. I tell you to
be fantastic.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Thank you, so much so much. Senator Jonny Arnstein again
her special guest tonight, Sarah Root's father, Scott at the
