Speaker 1 (00:00):
Austin Rouser, who's been a very busy man overnight and
early this morning with the streets from the City of Omaha. Austin,
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good morning, Gig.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
I appreciate the time. What can you tell us about
what you're dealing with and what the status is of
the maintenance operations.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, obviously rough night, a lot of wind. You know,
we had a lot of wind that just kind of
kept covering up things that we plowed. I think from
a plow standpoint cruise we had out did a phenomenal job.
I think, you know, we kind of got overwhelmed with
some of the salt that we had put down, so
that's kind of an issue we're fight now. But the
sun's coming out, so we're gonna get a lot of
good warm temperatures, warm melting on the roadways. With the
(00:37):
residential streets, our contractors are out. We are about halfway
finished with all of the residential areas, so we'll keep
going with that until we get everything plowed. But yeah,
we're just fighting through some of that icing right now,
which again I think what the temperature is coming up
and the sun coming out, we'll see they go away
pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, the plowing has pretty much been. I mean, it
wasn't a ton of snow. Can you do anything about that?
That compacted the snow and ice?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, you know, just like the amount of liquid it
was down with the rain in front of it, that
kind of got trapped under the snow and then you know,
the blowing over the top of it. We had. We
had to put down a lot of salt. It got
a little bit overwhelmed by some of that moisture. It diluted.
So we're spreading this morning, we're out on the routes.
It looks like we're getting some good breakage out there
(01:24):
and things just started to come together.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Base putting gravel down now, right, salt salt, Okay, whatever
it takes. Austin, thanks appreciate the time. Austin Rouser, Engineering,
City of Omaha here on kfab's Morning News eight ten.
And the advisory from Sheriff Hansen and others who have
been traversing this during the early hours is don't be
(01:49):
out there driving if you don't have to, and it
will be, as Austin said, improving gradually as the day
goes on, but be prepared to go really really slow.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Okay,
