Speaker 1 (00:00):
Garry Sadelmayer, Jim Rose and Company here seven thirty seven,
welcoming Nebraska US Senator Deb Fisher and Senator Welcome. I
thought we'd be chatting about the brinksmanship that would take
us right up to midnight tonight on the government shutdown
and the continuing resolution. But Chuck Schumer basically caved on
this yesterday. So that sounds like a done deal.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Right, Well, I hope, so you know, we don't gain
anything by trying to have a shutdown. We wouldn't be
able to work with President Trump to continue trying to
make government more efficient and safer, more secure. But Chuck
Schumer is always liked having a big Omini bus at

(00:41):
the end of the year so he can control what's
going on with taxpayer dollars. But that's backfired on him
this year. So yes, he took us up to the brink.
We didn't have our appropriation bills on the floor. He
wouldn't put him on the floor. I think in the
last two years, we passed twenty three of those bills
out of committee, an open process that people could watch

(01:05):
the carryings on and watch this developing. Those bills, he
only put three on the floor. Will it backfired on
him because now he, as you said, he had to
stand on the floor and agree that he's going to
vote at least keep the government open. We'll see if
he can get other Democrats to do it. We will

(01:26):
need sixty votes to make that happen, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, well he pretty much runs on though, doesn't he.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
You know, it seems that way. Seems that way most
of the time that they've been the boy. They've been
having a lot of very heated discussions.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah. I heard there was a really loud one. They
were screaming at each other and you could hear it.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, that's That's not unusual for their coloctus. They have
very heated discussions, but they usually come out all the others.
So we'll see. I know, I know a lot of
their people who are up for election this year. They're
worried about it, and they're worried about aoc their base

(02:10):
that wants them to stand firm and fight and shut
government down, which that doesn't help anybody.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
It's been a really rough week for Democrats debt. Not
only did Chuck Schumer k but Gavin Newsom actually sat
in the same room with Steve Bannon. So these people's
heads are exploding truly.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, and you've got Tim Wall's coming omaha.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
So you guys enjoyed that.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's That's an hour of my life.
I wish I could get back.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Speaking of the Trump agenda, you've got Lee Zelden, who's
in charge of the EPA now, and there were a
couple of I thought notable for agg producers and for
people who drive gas powered vehicles, a couple of at
least signs Senator Fisher that the deregulation may be coming,
notably the Waters of the US that may be reversing, right. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
You know, I had a meeting last week with leez
Elden and the Secretary Bag Collins, and he was telling
me at that time that he was going to be
putting out a number of changes to these horrible regulations
that we've had to deal with, and the Waters of

(03:25):
the US is one of them. So I'm just really
really pleased to see that the EPA is taking action
to rescind that overreach that we saw from the Biden era,
and yeah, looking forward to seeing more. He's addressing the
Clean Power Plan two point zero. You know, I hear

(03:46):
from our public power people here in Nebraska. How that
would really affect the affordability but also the reliability of
electricity generation. It would raise prices on our family. So
I'm really happy the EPA is doing that. I wish
we could do it through legislation to make it permanent,

(04:08):
but at least we're getting some relief.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Is E fifteen for a year round you is going
to be a reality? Do you think.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
We came close? We came really close at the end
of last year, which my understanding right at the end
there Speaker of the House pulled it out of the
cr package that was there. We have a great coalition
of stakeholders that are supporting this. Obviously are corn producers
in Nebraska, are ethanol plants, but also the American Petroleum Institute.

(04:42):
You know, I've been fighting big oil for a long time,
but they're on board with this. So are the refineries.
Are convenience stores and retailers, few retailers there, they're on
board as well. And if you filled up with gas
the POMP you know that E ten fifteen it's cheaper,

(05:04):
so it helps consumers too. So we just keep pushing,
going to work hard on it to the eleventh year.
I've been working on it. Sometimes it takes a long time,
but it's it's worth fighting for for the economy of
the state.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Before we go here, what is your level of optimism
that there will be success in these negotiations over in
Moscow on the Ukraine Russian War.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
You know, I don't trust Russia. They haven't ever really
honored any any agreement that we have with regards to defense,
to weapons. They break those agreements, So I would proceed
with caution, hold them accountable. I know this administration will

(05:57):
do that, But I understand President Trump's really deep desire
to end that war. He wants to end the killing,
he wants to end the death. In my opinion, that's
where he's coming from as he as he works with
Ukraine and now as he works with Russia. But I,

(06:20):
for one, would would be very very cautious in dealing
with them.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah. Yes, it's tough, tough negotiation for sure. Senator thanks,
I have a good weekend you too, and we'll talk
again down the road.
