Speaker 1 (00:00):
The news just roiling over the weekend. The big announcement
on the US China trade talks, and the other big
international story is that you've got the four leaders from
Britain putting pressure, wanting to put pressure along with the
(00:21):
United States on Russia. Zelensky demanding a thirty day ceasefire
putin rejecting that, but offering to sit down with for
a no preconditioned series of talks, and Zelensky finally said
yes to that. Let's get more from John Decker, twenty
four to seven News White House correspondent John good morning, Good.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Morning to you, Gary. A lot of news on the
international front over the weekend. Let's talk first about China.
A truth you could call it, in that trade wark
between the US and China, the two largest economies in
the world. Tariffs on Chinese products coming into the US
coming down substantially from one hundred and forty five percent
(01:03):
to thirty five percent, and then tariffs on American products
heading over to China, they too are declining substantially from
one hundred and twenty five percent to ten percent. And
over the course of the next ninety days, a work
will begin in terms of getting to a permanent truth,
a permanent ceasefire related to the seaspot, that the trade
(01:23):
war between the US and China.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, but as Congress been Flood mentioned earlier, the key
to dealing with the Chinese is to enforce it and
verify it, and that is always a problem. They like
to cheat.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, look when you're talking about when you're talking about
issues related to things that we know about. You know,
I think that Congressman is correct in terms of trusting
the Chinese, trusting that the Chinese will live up to
their end of the bargain. But that's why, you know,
you have these trade negotiations taking place over the weekend
(02:01):
in Switzerland, our Treasury secretary meeting with China's top trade representative,
hammering out this potential deal. The start of the deal,
the framework of a deal, the next ninety days will
be very important. But I think that the financial markets
will certainly react accordingly. I would expect that you're going
to see the sky the financial market skyrocket today because
(02:23):
of this deal announced over the world.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Boy, I love it. Pre market is just up huge
this morning. Talking on with twenty four to seven News,
White House correspondent John Decker, John what Doy you've been
covering this Ukraine Russia thing for a while. Putin says, Okay,
no preconditions, we'll sit down and talk in Turkey. I
don't know when these talks they're going to start. I
guess in a few days.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
What do you think, Well, you know, Putin says a
lot of things, but he's also talking about trust. He's
not someone who follows through his talk with actions that
he continues to attack civilian areas in Ukraine. So all
the promises is Gary, of made by President Putin, you
can take with a grain of salt. Now what Vladimir
(03:07):
Vladimir's Lensky has said is fine, let's talk, let's you know,
and if there's nothing that comes out of it in
terms of a thirty day ceasefire, Europe, Germany, other allies
of Ukraine will impose even further sanctions on Russia. So
there's a lot at stake in terms of this week
as it relates to that Wark now over three years old.
(03:30):
Hard to believe, Gary, that's how I've been covering that Wark.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Wow. Yeah, such a tragedy too. The carnage, Yeah, Poland, Germany, France,
I can't remember that, but there were four of them
when they got together with Zelenski and they and then
they conferred with Donald Trump, and they're ready to do
more sanctions and more pressure on Russia. The way it sounds,
(03:53):
I think that may be what it takes.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
He's got to feel, Yeah, maybe maybe let's let's hope,
let's hope this war comes to an end, you know,
and let's hope that at the end of it, the
sovereignty of Ukraine is respected, because it will send a
terrible message to the world if you can just enter
into your neighbor's territory, take it over and there are
no repercussions.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
John, Thanks always good to have you on.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Thank you.
