Speaker 1 (00:00):
Great to have Jeff Minasso back with us Fox News Radio.
I'm interested Jeff in this Brian Coburger case because it
was such, it was so horrific, the butchery of those
college students out in Idaho. And it's been a slow process.
Of course, there is some movement now in the trial case.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Right, well, yeah, the process could be even slower, my friend.
As the aid accounty Judge Handley Decas heard arguments over
delaying Brian Coberger's August trial, as the defense claims, you
know a couple of different things, first, the alternate perpetrator's
theory of the twenty twenty two killings of those four

(00:38):
University of Idaho students for which Coburger is charged. But
they filed the motion asking to postpone the trial saying
that they didn't need more time to prepare. They argue
that moving forward with the current date would violate Coberger's
constitutional rights, and they cite prejudicial pre trial publicity. Defense

(00:58):
attorneys also say the Augus trial date doesn't allow sufficient
time to prepare for both the guilt and penalty phases
of the capital case. So Leto County prosecutors argue that
the defense has had adequate time to end resources to prepare.
They say postponing the trial isn't warranted and harmful to

(01:21):
victims' rights to timely resolution injustice.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, that pre trial publicity issue is a big one.
That's a big one. What can you what can you
tell me about the the alternate perpetrator argument that they're
trying to make.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, so they the they claim that the case is
full of alternative perpetrators. They wrote in Emotion in March
that the state has chosen to focus on Coburger and
its own peril. They say that many alternate perpetrators can
be connected to the crime. Prosecutors that said, I remember
there's there's a there's a gag order in the case,

(02:00):
so we don't know too much. But I'll jump on
that in a sect because there's some developing developments on that.
Prosecutors have said that law enforcement received thousands of tips
from about multiple perpetrators during their investigation, with the exception
of information regarding the defendant, that none of these tips
were substantiated. They've also said that Coburger's DNA was found

(02:22):
on a knife sheets left behind the crime scene, among
other incriminating evidence. And now this there's a door dash
driver apparently delivered food to the victims. They're off campus
home around four am that morning, within thirteen minutes of
the window of the deadly attacks, and she told police

(02:43):
that she parked next to and saw Brian Coburger there.
She made that connection to Reni jailhouse interview following a
DUI RRAs that was released by the Edahost Statesman, which
you may lead to a credibility issue, you know, since
it was du Irs who knows for the defense. But
I don't know how much time you have left on this,

(03:04):
but this is it is. It's there's a lot of
evidence that or information that's come out, and the judge
is seeing mad that there's been violations of the gag order, yes,
and he wants to get to the bottom of it.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
I'm just interested because I think any well, any human really,
but anybody who has daughters. I mean, this was just
horrifying what happened out there, and it just seems like
it's been forever since there's been a new movement. So
you think we'll go August for the trial.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
The judge seemed to indicate that he was still going
to move toward the August trial. But will we'll see
what he says.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Jeff, great to have you on All Boys is a
great information. Thank you have a good weekend. That's Jeff
Monaso Fox News Radio here on News Radio eleven ten KFAB.
That's that is that is among the worst I have
ever heard. I remember when that happened.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's that awful.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Oh my god. So there's a lot for the judge
to sort out here, and that will be one unlike
the Karen Reid and that Dufus in North Carolina trials
that the media decided we needed to pay attention to.
This one is one that a lot of people are

(04:21):
going to watch care fullen. We'll keep track of it
here too.
