Speaker 1 (00:00):
Up.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Man, what's up, Jason?
Speaker 1 (00:01):
How you doing? Brother? Hum good? How are you.
Speaker 3 (00:03):
I've known you for a handful of years now. It
was lucky enough to host some of your iHeart Country
album release stuff over the past few years. But it
feels like you're at a point in your career where
like stuff like hanging out with friends, making memories with
your family, like that has taken precedent over anything.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Would you say more so over the last few years.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Yeah, I mean I think for me, it's always kind
of been about you know that. I mean, I enjoy
I'm on the road, you know, half the year. So
when I'm not on the road and get a chance
to relax or do something I want to do, you know,
that's that's usually in boss family, So you know, us
taking a trip somewhere or going on vacation or kind
(00:43):
of making memories with those guys. I mean, I'd much
rather do that than you know, just go to the
bar downtown and hang whatever, you know. So yeah, but yeah,
I mean I think it's definitely kind of been more
like that recently, and especially as our little kids are
getting older and you know, they're kind of at the
age where it's fun we can throw them on a
(01:05):
plane or on a bus or whatever it is, and like, you.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Know, it's it's easy anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
So if I get a chance to have a little downtime,
it's gonna involve them more times than not.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
How easy is it.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I was looking on social media recently and it looks
like h Navy got a little bit of a makeover
in the bedroom.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Uh yeah, So that's uh, that's a reflection of my
wife buying stuff on Amazon all the time. So Amazon
is at our house multiple times a day, and she,
you know, she'll go on picterest and like look at
something and.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Go, oh, this is great.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
We should do this in the Navy's room and then
she'll order all this stuff and then go all right,
I need you to come in here and help me
put this stuff up. And I'm like, the room looked
fine before you ordered all this stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
But okay.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Uh so yeah, but it's uh, there's always projects like
that around the house that that she's got me doing.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
That's why i need to get back on the road
as soon as possible.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
I'm gonna clip that part so she doesn't know.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
That's the real reason your touring, so you don't have
to do home maintenance and home projects. Yeah, when it
comes to the bar situation, obviously, you just open the
spot in Vegas, which is awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I have a puppy. I just got a puppy.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Do you hear that?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, shut up, I'm talking to Jason Aldean.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Be quiet.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Oh my god, dude, I'll have to edit that out anyway,
the bar thing, you just open the one in Vegas. Obviously,
the Route ninety one wall is awesome. I was on
the radio in Vegas. I worked in Vegas during that time,
So it's cool to see you like work that in
Where the bar goes next? Like, is this something that
you want to continue to invest in and grow? And
(02:47):
are are you kind of happy with where it is now? No?
Speaker 4 (02:50):
I think it's uh, you know, originally we did the
one here in Nashville, and you know, we didn't know
what that was going to look like, right, So, I mean,
everybody's got a bar or now. And it was kind
of early on in the process though, we were one
of the first ones to do it, and you know,
where that spot was in Nashville just kind of became
like ground zero for Broadway, you know, and so had
(03:14):
a chance to expand and do one in Gatlinburg, So
that one's you know, much smaller scale than the one here,
but it's super cool. And then we went to Pittsburgh.
That one in Pittsburgh that's more sports bar kind of thing,
and and uh, and then the Vegas one. Obviously, that
one was tricky because you know, we got a special
(03:36):
connection to that town and you know, I wanted to
make sure that if we were going to go in
and do something like that, you know, we we honored
the Route ninety one family and did something in there
to you know, keep that out there. So, uh, Vegas
has been great. I mean that that one's been killing
it so far, and you know, there's there's talks about
possibly doing another one somewhere. I think, you know, those
(03:58):
those kinds of situations. Obviously, we're building a brand on that,
and if it makes sense to go put one somewhere,
you know, we're gonna look at it.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
So it's uh, you know why not. I mean I
love the bar.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
People seem to like it, enjoy going and gives us
a chance to you know, new artists to come in
and play and you know, live bands and stuff. Gives
them a place to come and play. And I just
I like it. I think it's really cool and I've
been fortunate enough to open a few of them, and
if it keeps going well, then I'm sure we'll open
a few more.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
It's it's so well done, and I love because we
have our studio in that in that building, so we're
in and out of there.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
There's construction now, so it's kind of getting loud.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
They're like doing stuff at the building at the TC underneath,
yeah you and then the spot next door, so there's
like construction around there. So it was a little loud
this afternoon and I'm home with a sick kid, but
otherwise we'd be there and uh, it's funny the amount
of people that are like, is Jason here. It's just
I'm like, yeah, he's got a bedroom upstairs. Let me
go see if he's not busy, or or like, is.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
He in the back? What do you think he's baking
the chicken.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Wings, serving tables? No, you know what.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
I will say this though, you know, anytime I'm somewhere,
like if I go to Pittsburgh and you know, we
happen to be the I mean, I do try to
stop in.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
And we were in Gatlinburg.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
In the fall, and so you know, went in and
we ate had lunch there and you know, kind of
took the family in there and hung out. So, I
mean we do pop in and out of those things
when we're in town. We always go check them out
and see what. We'll pop in and out of the
one here downtown Nashville. And but yeah, I'm not I'm
not back there baking the food or anything.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Man.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I gotta say congrats because a lot of artists drive
for a number one song. You're on the verge of
what would be your thirtieth number one song as you
started your career and you started recording and touring, did
you ever I mean, I'd imagine the number one. Just
to get a number one was great, But to sit
here like is this like Holy hell, I can't believe
like this has taking us as far?
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, I mean, you know, you get started as an artist, man,
I mean having multiple number ones is not even like
a you know, that's a pipe dream. So you're you're
sitting there, You're just hoping to get one. You want
to a top forty hit, just so you have something
that people kind of know that you can go out
and play and they can put a face with the
name and the music and all the stuff.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
And so.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I had one number one on my first album, didn't
have one on my second album, and then my third
album came out, and that's when we started kind of
stringing them together. She's Country, Big Green Tractor, The Truth,
you know, had three number ones off of that one.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
And I think, you know, I was never really a
numbers guy.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
I never looked at it and went, oh, man, I
need if I had ten number ones or fifteen or
twenty or whatever that number is. It was just like, man,
I just wanted to be around for a while. I
wanted to keep getting getting to do this and play
music and do my thing. And it's like one day
you look up and you got five number ones, and
then you look up and you got twelve and eighteen.
You're closing in on twenty, and you know, all of
(07:04):
a sudden, you know, start hearing chatter last year about
thirty and it's like, man, it's it's cool. You know,
it's a number to me and it's something I'm proud of.
But what it means to me is longevity that I've
been able to stick around for, you know, twenty years
this year twenty years and you know, hopefully twenty nine
number ones in twenty years.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Like that's a that's a pretty good deal.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
So I don't know, man, I just want to do
it as long as people care and as long as
they like what I'm doing, and just you know, let
me climb on a tour bus and go play for
you guys, and you know, that's what I want to do.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
It's a good thing you got more than one house,
or at least a house and a massive shed, because
that's a lot of plaques to hang up on the wall.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Hey, you can always add on if you need to. Man,
you got to show those things off.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yes, sir.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
One of the most unique things that as not a
lot of artists gets to celebrate number ones, but a
lot of artists don't get to celebrate number ones. And
almost like I'm management style role with your relationship with
John Morgan, what was that like to sign him? And
now like the first guy that you signed up is
got a number one hit.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Uh well, I mean it's obviously a you know, it's
a different feeling for sure. You know, me having a
number one for myself, we've experienced that a lot of times.
It's still awesome. I mean anytime you get a number one,
because they don't all go number one, you know, and
you have ones that you're like, you know, Hicktown was
never a number one, Embryles Sky was never a number one. Like,
(08:30):
there's a lot of songs that I thought were great
songs that just never, you know, we're able to get
up there and ring the bell. But when you do
get those, it's, you know, it's really a good feeling.
And then when you've never had one, you know, it's
it was cool for me to see that happen for
John and John Morgan and you know, for him to
get his first one and me to get my first
(08:51):
one as a record exec or whatever.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
So just really proud of him.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Man, He's a guy that I strongly believe that, you know,
it's just brings something really special to the table. He's
a great writer, great singer, great guitar player. He's just
got all the tools to be a star. And so
I thought he was amazing, still do and just wanted
people to hear him, you know, I just wanted him
to get out there and people to to hear what
(09:18):
what we heard, what we thought was so cool and uh,
for that to happen for him. Man, it's it's it
was a pretty good feeling to have a number one
that's you know, it's like, man, that's your number one,
that's not mine, that's you.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
So it's it's really cool.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
You're getting ready to hit the road. I mean we're
talking what less than three weeks. I mean you're about
two weeks away.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
From hitting the road.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, a couple of weeks for sure.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Uh, full throttle, full throttle tour is getting ready to
take off.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
How do tour?
Speaker 3 (09:44):
How has touring changed for you since the early days
outside of you know, three hundred dates a year to
you know, whatever you're at now.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yeah, I mean I just think we've you know, we've
dialed it in. I mean we that's we've done enough tours,
We've headlined enough tours now to where we know what
that looks like. We know how much time we need
to get ready for that. We know what we wanted
to you know, we know we want it to look
different than it did last year. We're gonna add songs
(10:13):
in that we didn't play last year and just kind
of always keep it new and fresh and as much
as possible, right with you playing a lot of the
same songs that you're gonna play every year. You still
got to kind of take some out, move some things around,
play new music that's coming in. But at this point,
I think we've done it enough to where we know
when it's go time. It's like, okay, we can go
(10:34):
make records and go be in the studio and do
all that stuff on the off time. And you know,
a month, a couple of weeks months before the show,
it's like it's time to start dialing it in and
getting ready. And you know, I went over the other
day and was like mess around on piano to to
work on the the Carrie Underwood duet that we have,
And so I was over there mess around. I'm like,
(10:55):
Drew A Blake, I'm like, what the hell? I can't
even remember I play this song. So it's those kind
of things and just you know, a couple of weeks
before just kind of knocking the rust off a little bit.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
And that's kind of where we are right now.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Is it wild to get on stage and know that
if you do hit a point where like what the
hell were the words again, that the crowd is just
going to take over the.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Show for you.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Oh yeah, Well, and there's little tricks to that too,
and things that I've kind of learned over the years.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And you know, but.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Yeah, when all else fale is just look at the
crowd and hold the mic out and hopefully it's a
hit that they know.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You know what I mean, It.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Was all part of the plan.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Yeah, I just want to include you guys.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
As we celebrate the success of Whiskey Drink and an
album that is from twenty twenty three. I any fan
would be upset if I didn't ask you what's next?
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Well, I think the next single will be from the
new album, and we've been working on that. It's actually
in the process of being mixed right now, So next
thing will be from the new record. Now, as far
as how we're going to drop the album, that's that's
a little bit up in the air right now. I
just feel like, man, last few albums, I just feel
(12:10):
like we're as a streaming thing is taken off and you,
you know, put an album out. You sit there and
you know, it takes you a year and a half
to find the songs, write the songs, go record it,
get it all fixed, and then you put it out
and three months later, everybody's like Okay, well, when's your
next one coming out? And it's like, dude, it took
me a year and a half to make that thing,
(12:31):
you know, so I think, you know, people get ready
to move on to the next thing after they've consumed
the album, and I think, for me, we're leaving a
lot a lot of really cool songs on the table
and things, songs that just aren't getting their day, and
so I want to figure out how to release the album,
whether we release it in segments or whatever that looks
(12:52):
like to try, and you know, not let the album
burn burn out in a couple months after you release it.
So you know, you release it, people want to listen
to it for a couple months and then they're like, okay,
well when I know all those.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
When's the next one coming out? And it's like, man,
like another year.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
So it's you can almost do like four EPs built
like put together a full album type deal.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Yeah, And that's kind of you know, we've we've talked
about a lot of different things, and you know, there's
just a lot of hit songs. I feel like that
we're leaving on the table that we're just not able
to get to because everybody's ready for the next thing,
and uh, you know, just trying to figure out how
to do that, man, because I just, you know, writing
hit songs and finding those songs or it's not easy,
and you know when you feel like you're just kind
(13:38):
of like wasting them because you're trying to move to
the next thing. I just don't feel like some of
those songs are getting their day, and I want to
figure out how to how to change that.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
I guess.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Brother, Well listen, I know you got a busy day, heeady.
I appreciate the time I got wasg and hopefully we
can catch up again soon.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Absolutely, man, always good to see you.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Good to see you, Jason, take care back to the fan, brother.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Thank you, good to see man.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Thanks
