We've never had so much grass, and yeah, the prices
have stayed when they started out in the spring, even
generally for us, the tapers off pretty quick. And then
when you like so when stew in the south and
the killing lambs, the schedules bottomed out. But that hasn't
epen this year, which is very unusual.

Great grass growing weather and the poor old arable farmers
were hearing about their woes and the seed guys. It's
just been a bit of a mayor for them.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, going forward, suppose any regrassing, I presume the price
of grass I go up a bit, but yeah, that's
just the bibs and flothes with supply and demand as
we know.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Okay, yes, Stu duncan. How is the season treating you
in the many Atta or would you even know? You
seem to be spending all your ill gotten games traveling
around the country watching your horses race. You like that,
you like the land of gentry stew you?

Well, I had one that Hager Steel dropped on his foot.

We'd have been a big race on Saturday. But the
other guy's racing today. But no, I don't travel around
too much.

But I did go to Augland for the Cracking Million
for a detail way, which is great, but it was good.

Did you buy a horse while you're up there at.
Speaker 3 (01:41):

The next couple of days we bought a horse, but
we didn't buy one at crack and but we didn't
buy a new onesday. It's all good. So just turned
up in Alexandria yesterday. Actually so nice, wee phillies.

of steel on that's hoof?

I'd never, never, ever ever write the Crusaders off. Okay,
stew So traditionally your summer dry. You're not summer dry
in Canterbury this year? What are you what you got
on your farm to eat all the grass? Bearing in
mind traditionally your lambs would all be away by now

Well, after a couple of half knee operations, I've got
my sheep numbers anyway. But yeah I've got more kettle.
The ratio has changed, and more kettle. But it's actually well,
I've just sold a few more fat ones, but cas
selling car seasons coming to start replacing what I've sold
over the spring summer in the autumn, and yeah, we're

going to go into the winter looking looking very good.
A lot of good green feed crops around, a lot
of exceptional follow beat and kale crops. So yeah, the
demand for store cattle will be Yeah, it's very strong.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
It'll make the eyewater. Actually buying store cattle would be
more expensive than buying one of Stew's horses at Karaka.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, I've actually just done a bit of a revamp
on my insurance and looking what happens if anything does happened, well,
Kettler and or you know your live stock and trains,
so you've advised everyone just cheat with your transport companies
to make sure that the value of your stock, you know,
when you're killing sort of three and a half three
three and a half thousand dollars kettle beets, that insurance

does cover it for if anything does go wrong. So
that there was highlighted to me the other day.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, okay, Stu duncan back to you and the many
are toto there. You're a sheep and beef farmer. You've
also got a deer farming operation and you've got an
interest in a dairy farm or dairy farm slash. You
would be bored by the news that's come out today
that midpoint are going from nine to nine dollars fifty.
We've certainly started the calendar year twenty twenty six in

a rollicking fashion.

Yeah it's great, isn't it? And yeah, but everything's positive
and to be fair, it needs to be out there
for a lot of people.

But we're the same. We've had a great season. The
dairy farms had a great season down there as well.
It'll start off we have a really tight spring, but
you know, we need those other things to come. A
lot of average lambing through Central Tago. I was stalling
a Marino guy the other day and had two of
the worst lambing's ever had in his farming career. So
we're just lucky that some of these values and calves
and the lambs like Marino's outday average over two hundred

dollars of stores o other day at Muka, at tekeboat
So or a Marima, so there's some pretty big money
stores stop being paid.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
So that's allowed a lot of guys out of jail
and weebit.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
We've had a low production, but It's been fantastic and
I think it will continue.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I know some of the meat companies are trying.

To talk back, but they're talking back when there's eighty
dollars they're talking about now.

They're doing what they've done in Australia where they're going
to let him coach out the Super Rugby season and
then they'll be in a netwell he'll be told that
it could be coached inn But apparently they're off to
someone's off to Japan to look at Dave Rennie in
his system, so they're obviously well.

Dane Coles is heading over there. I know that for
a fact. So and someone else on that panel. I'm
not sure there's five of them in there. But you
think they know their man, don't they?

Stew Duncan, Yeah, I think they've probably known for a while,
but I probably thought they did it last and they
knew their men.
