Rachel Sharer is the GM of WOL for PGG Rights
and last week's South Island sale strong wall indicator down
eleven cents, willbe it off ninety five percent clearance. WOLL
has really performed well over the past couple of years,
albeit from a low base, But this world uncertainty is
affecting everything, including wolves.

Rachel, it certainly is that. You know, we've really seen
that market easing over both islands over the past couple
of weeks, quite a more subdued tone from the buyers.
But the relevancy of these global economic challenges are really
coming home at the moment, and it's just that uncertainty
that many exports are experiencing at the moment.

The report I read from PGG Rights and said, the
majority of the wool you or the you wool, let's
get it right, is now sold for the season. But
of course we have a bit of a lull or
we're into second share now, and then we get into
pre lamb and you've got the High Country Marinos and
all that sort of stuff coming up off. So so
the spread of wool coming off is far more even
(01:03):
now than it would have been what thirty years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, It certainly is, and what's really important at the moment,
and what we're seeing is that age old problem that
exporters will always seek that really well skirted, best prepared wall,
and now with the market easing as it has, can't
reiterate enough that it really can be the difference between
a well prepared wall that's coming up for option, it
(01:30):
can be up to twenty cents different per kg. So
it's a really good idea to have the team out
in the shed on top of their game, preparing that
will as best they can.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Well, I'm assuming at another twenty cents per kilogram for
well prepared fleece wall, that would well and truly pay
for an extra roalsy in the shed.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I'm sure it was. And you know, as the u
will has sold for the season, as you rightly mentioned,
we're going into a little bit tight of volumes coming
forward and exporters are still seeking to fill their order
books so may help limit some of any any further
downside at the moment, and we're pretty confident that the
market will that the market will hold. Remaining cautiously optimistic,
(02:11):
I think I mentioned to you last time, there's still
we're still hearing noise out of Europe, and some of
our end users are seeking to increase capacity in their
manufacturing plants. So whatever happens with these economic challenges, we're
pretty confident of WALL coming out the other side in
a pretty good shape.

And to be positive, if we look at where Wall's
gone in the past couple of years, South Island strong
will indicator two years ago three hundred and thirty cents
now five hundred and fifty five cents currently, North Island
three hundred and seven cents now currently five hundred and
thirty six cents. So in percentage terms, it's lest it's
(02:48):
heading in the right direction, or even if it is
calling its jets just a bit at the moment.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, it is calling calling its jets a little bit
at the moment. But you know, the forty two and
forty seven percent increase across those two islands even in
the last year, and as you mentioned, significantly more over
the last two years, as really positive. It's also we're
seeing we're noticing and following the UK and the Australian markets,

so it's always interesting to follow those markets, but to
note that we're you know, we're having the same trend
as others in the global market.

Yeah, the Orange Man has a lot to answer for
at the moment. Hopefully we get it sorted as sooner
rather than later, causing us all untold grief at the moment. Anyhow,
