Okay, look that's enough ribbing about your Woman's Weekly apparent.
Now shock horror, it's July. It's the middle of July.
We'll just past the middle of July, and it's going
to snow.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah. Look, we have a really sharp cold snap coming
to the country, there's no doubt about it. And look
at maybe even a sharper sort of cold snap in
the sense that we haven't had many. June was the
warmest June on record in terms of temperature for the country.
And now we're going to see a big puff of
chili air coming over this weekend, starting over the South
(01:10):
Island late tonight and certainly moving up the country, and
so by Saturday, night into Sunday, pretty much the entire
nation will be into a deep chill. As you say,
it's late July, it's midwinter. These things are expected. We'll
warm up behind that, Jamie. And then another sharp cold
snap is likely to come about this time next week
(01:33):
and for the weekend, and that could be more significant.
I think that one coming in the first week of
August does bear watching because that could be a bit
more profound in terms of bite or sharpness.

Yeah, and I guess when we get into August it
starts to become a bit more of a worry for
farmers from a lemming and carving point of view. I
know that carving's underway in some places in the North Island,
not really in the South Island yet, but we're not a.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Mall, yeah exactly. And you know, it's temperatures one thing,
but it's also precipitation. You know, it's one thing if
it's chili, but if it's chili and wet, then obviously
that creates a different element in terms of rainfall. If
you look at the big picture over the next basically
what's called two weeks or so. We're talking broad strokes here, right,
We're smoothing out many days into a two weeks sort
(02:21):
of summary. It's still lower in western South Island that'll
probably have a wet lean which is kind of congruent
with and developing, well, not even developing. It's here el Nino,
and that wetness could extend up toward the Tetanaki region,
perhaps the Manawatu. Now conversely for those in the eastern
part of Northland and the eastern Upper North Isle, so

Northland or Amando, perhaps they have plenty maybe tatafa digisben.
I think rainfall over the next two weeks could be
kind of neutral where it should be or below normal.
So if there's going to be drier than usual conditions,
it'll be in those aforementioned areas. Maybe even top of
the South Island could see some drier than usual conditions
basically over the next two weeks. And then as we

go deeper into the August month and getting closer to spring,
we are expecting these more persistent westerlies to unfold. We
talked about this, you know, we're talking this is a
spring thing, and so you know, while on Nina has
really formed and it's becoming a very strong al Nino,
those teleconnections. How we experience al ninia will take some
time to eventuate, but that we think will happen as

we get into the spring season i e. September and beyond.
