Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talk sed B.
Follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on
iHeartRadio The Rewrap.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Okay there and welcome to the Rewrap for Wednesday. All
the best that's from the mic asking breakfast on news Talks.
He'd be an a sillier package Iron Glen Heart and
today Mike wants a word about the Golden visas and
a little issue that people have with them. He'll also
try and explain the F one rule changes. And I

(00:43):
don't think I'm giving away too much by saying he
will fail and explaining them. But first up, Yes, the
National Party leadership staush, what a cluster.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Quite possible. The Prime Minister might look back on yesterday's
caucus meeting is a moment that defined as leadership. You
read the riot Act. Of course, they had a vote.
He won, He was always going to win. But are
making a statement afterwards, He hopefully wants and for all
sent a message to the media that the sort of
drama they live for is over. Should have done the sooner.
Of course, he's one hundred percent right when he says
most of us have got no interest in the minutia

(01:13):
and gossip, that envelops the Beltway. This is a country
with a myriad of issues facing us, and every moment
you spend on frippery is a moment wasted on real problems. Yes,
you can blame Off and Dell and Bishop and his
mates for talking and leaking, bit in totality, when you
look at what led to yesterday, five idiots and a
bloke from the Hut who sort of fancied himself. What
a mountain out of a molehill in a caucus of
fifty ish A handful of nobody's got spooked and caused

(01:36):
too much damage, but aided by the media who don't
like the government and certainly don't like lux and so
leapt into it with alacrity. Luxeon deserves a lot better. No,
he is not one of the nation's greats. Mind you.
They said that about John Howard for many years until
they realized they were wrong. But what Luson is is
a hard working, successful operator managing a three way deal
to run a country mide and debt in a world

(01:57):
at war, and when we're not at war, finding any
number of problems to provide no end of challenges for
a small country at the bottom of the planet. You
can't fault his ambition and you can't fault his work ethic.
Like national fight, don't vote for them. But the point
is he's in it, always has been for the right reasons,
and that's to be respected, not white anted. The bit
that would have got me was upon arrival he tidy

(02:19):
has parted up. The leaking and the backstabbing was stopped.
His reward for that was the gormless and self absorbed
fools that went on and let him down. They should
be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. But hopefully Luxon emerges
from the stronger. Every now and then you see a
flash of it. Monday post cabinet he spoke with passion
about immigration. Yesterday the same, but with about gossip and

(02:39):
wasting time. He needs to be himself more. He doesn't
like the Beltway and who can blame him? Hopefully yesterday
you put a line in that particular sand Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I think the trouble is if you want to be
prime minister, you've got to be prepared to act a
bit like a prime minister.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
And yeah, I think that's what people are struggling with
the rewrap.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Of course, it would be a lot easier without Winston
Peter's chiming and from the well. I'd like to say sidelines,
but I don't actually think Winston's ever actually stood on
a sid.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, I'm Peter Peter's true colors of undermining are shining
through just a self serving effwort. Who needs to be retired?
Eighty one really ghost on the bench. I defend Peters
to it, agree because you've got to remember people getting
sort of exercised that just because you're in a coalition
doesn't mean you're in love with everybody. It's a business
arrangement and at all times you are looking after your

(03:29):
self interest. Now, if you believe David Farrer, the latest
polls that have the National Party allegedly in an element
of bother and the rise of New Zealand. First, if
you believe those numbers, a lot of that supporters come
from National. Now, if you're the head of New Zealand first,
you know that. And so what do you do? You
milk it for all it's worth. So your coalition partner,
yes you cooperate with them, Yes you run the country

(03:49):
together with them, but you're not holding hands. And so
you see the opportunity and you go for it. You
can't blame Peter's for that. He's a political operator. He
wants to go into the election with as much popularity
as it can possibly get his hands on, and if
some of it comes from national and as he has
to play political games in an election year, you may
not like it. Bet blame them.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
I don't like it.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I do blame them, And that's after me just saying
that Luxon should be more willing to play political games.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Ah, I don't know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Wrap.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
So anyway, we.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
Reached out to Mike. He calls them the Famous Five.
Here's what they said.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Mike, why can't the Famous five be sacked? They should be?
It can't be blunt with you. I'm slightly disappointing. You're
asking the question. If a person has a seat, the
party can't sack them as an MP. So I thought
we all knew that. And if the person is on
the list, they can't delist somebody who's already there. You
can not select them again, or you can put them

(04:50):
on the list way down the bottom so you know
they'll never win. But be that is so basically in politics,
you can't do anything about anyone. Sam Mufindel right to us. Well,
we wrote to them. We all said, guys, come on,
hop onto the program and have some fun. Sam says,
Hi Sam, sam Ol Sam not his Sam, so to
Sam's thank you for the invitation. I will not be
joining you tomorrow. I never leaked against my party. The

(05:10):
allegation that I have is completely false. So that's sam
Arfundel distancing himself. Joseph Moody, Hi, Sam, I refute the
allegations made. I have nothing more to say about it.
I am pleased to say, however, that our caucus is
completely united behind the Prime Minister. So I'm not sure
he's giving away the vote there. I don't think he
knows the vote. I don't think anyone outside the whips
knows the vote unless there's leaking going on. But anyway,

(05:34):
he seems to suggest that the United Barbara Krueger, your
source was incorrect. Good afternoon, Sam, your source was incorrect.
I hope this corrects the misinformation. Regards shouldn't sign a name,
just said regards no, Barbara Andrew Bailey said, Sam, I
respectfully decline your invitation request for tomorrow. Have nothing further
to say on the matter. Kind regards didn't sign his
name Tim vander Molden. Good afternoon, Sam. It's disappointing. I mean,

(05:57):
obviously he's declined he's not coming on. Otherwise I would
have said morning, Tim, So he's not coming on. It's
disappointing that he was not prepared to provide the offer
ahead of me naming him play Are you honestly Tim
saying that if I said to you tomorrow morning, I
think you really could come on the program, you would
have come on the program. I don't think so. It
is sort of a cheap shot that can be expected
from the press. Get This is the part that hurts me.
It's sort of a cheap shot that can be expected

(06:18):
from the press gallery though I had expected better of
mister Hosking. Isn't it sad when our heroes let us down.
I've taken most of the morning to get over that one.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
So despite all that, it would then transpire that one
of those people complained about us, or about Mike and
the things that he'd said, lodged an official complaint and
also claimed that he hadn't been given the right of reply,
even though clearly he had been, because and he knows
that he had been, because he replied to the right

(06:55):
of reply opportunity, so who knows what's happening. They'd probably
have taken this podcast off by now because I'm replaying
all this stuff and you're not listening to it anymore.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
The rewrapping now.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
The Golden Visa scheme, they're much.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Herolded to stimulate the new New Zealand economy with some
overseas funds. But what if those funds just stand funds?
How stimulating is that?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I think nonplus is thinking about this yesday. Nonplussed, I think,
is the phrase I would use in reference to the
gold visa money issue. If you're up on that, is
it even an issue? So quick recap. If you've got
five or ten million bucks, you stick it somewhere local
and welcome to New Zealand. You get residency.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Now.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
The issue, if it is one, is that the vast
majority of money, it turns out, is packed away in
the bank or a managed fund, i e. It's not
dug into starting something new that will grow and expand
and employ. A chunk of it's even in government bonds.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Now.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
The point being you can grab it and bail is
what the suggestion is. This isn't working because basically you
just grab your money and bail, but you still got residency.
On the surface, that smacks of a cake and eat
it approach. But you give me residency, I'll open up
a check account. And as to what might some have
expected or wanted, which is a much more immersive fiscal
approach to your new home. Now, I would advise before

(08:09):
we panic or pack us sad, that it's early days,
very early days, and I'd be cautious with my money
as well. Why wouldn't you be. I mean, I'd look
to scope the landscape to see what's good, what isn't.
The xenophobes, of course, will argue it's just rich people
gaming the system. Trouble for New Zealand Inc. Is we
are not what we were not long ago. We're a
magnet for foreigners. That market has changed, our reputation damaged

(08:32):
under COVID and it's only now we're seeing a resurgence
of sorts and as such we're more in the market,
are being grateful for interest from offshore. Next problem is
if you decide that the market or the manage funds
is a little bit idle, as they're suggesting, what isn't idle,
there's what isn't idle how much activity is acceptable? And
surely that's a conundrum. Do we buy a factory or

(08:53):
are you expected to open a factory expand a business
or do you have to start a business physically build
something or just invest in it? Do you need to
employ someone or make something? See, you're potentially opening a
Pandora's box there, and we simply are not that great
an attraction to start handing outsu prescriptive rules. History of
immigration and investment broadly teaches us most people who come

(09:13):
to this country do so for the right reasons, and
they want to make a good life, and broadly speaking,
we are better off culturally, economically, and numerically for the process. Overall.
If immigration has had one glaring fault over the years
through successive governments, it's that we keep messing with the rules.
So maybe it's time to learn that lesson and stop.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yes, complicated business, isn't it?

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Do you want to be? You know?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
What?

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Do they call it a safe haven? And what is
the benefit to us? If you do, it's going to
be some benefit.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
The rewrap we're.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Going to finish up here with.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
This is kind of the reason why I don't like
the America's Cup, and we're not talking about the America's
Cut THEO. We're talking about F one, but it's sounding
more and more like the America's Cup to me.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
So the IF one. They came out with new rules,
and they're going to give these new rules a crack
as of Miami and a couple of week's time qualifying.
They're changing the amount of permitted recharge on the lap.
It's been reduced from eight Mega duels to seven Mega duels.
And you'll be going, what the hell does that mean?
Of course, no one knows what that means. It doesn't
mean anything. The maximum amount of power recovered when the

(10:25):
driver's on the full throttle in not deploying the battery.
This is called superclipping. That's been increased to a maximum
limit of three hundred and fifty killer watts from a
previous two hundred and fifty killer watts. Maximum time spent
super clipping on a qualifying lap was in the region
of two to four seconds. Also increased from eight to twelve.
The number of circuits where a lower energy limit of
more than seven mega jewels can be applied. See what

(10:45):
I mean this is mental. Once upon a time you
started the engine, you went broombroom broom, and you went
round really fast and the person who was the fastest one. Now,
for the wet conditions.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Is this all just because they've changed the off peak
charging rates.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
It's probably too expensive to charge the car now, So
for the wet conditions they're allowed to warm the tire
blankets up some more, so you have hot tizs when
you hit the track. I mean, come on, and this
is everything that's wrong with climate change and the bollocks
around it. If they stuck with an engine and the
engine ran on petrol and you started it up and
you went round the track, we'd have none of this.

(11:19):
But the moment you put a battery in, Look what's happened.
It's a disaster.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I hope Liam is with Genesis and then you can
book a power shout just when he needs it most.
So much I don't understand about this, Like, how does
that happen? Does it happen automatically? The drivers the post
to just control that themselves. I mean they got to
think about a lot of stuff. If ire drivers when
you go three hundred ks an hour, knowing how many

(11:44):
mega jewels you're charging at any forgiven time, anyway, this
sounds more and more like it's going to be decided
off the track more than on it when nobody that's
not sports I and my humble opinion, I am a
glen Hart. I could have paid you a couple of
minutes of Mike just talking about snooker, but I didn't.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
I'll see you out here again.
