from News Talks EDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Let's go to rugby the Hurricanes. We'll host that Super
Rugby semi against the Chiefs next Saturday. After recounting for
the Rebels last night, Carter and I have thought about
right the goo Steve Likeai lovely Slade handle on more
one two three men popped off us supple up four
under the horns for the Hurricanes. Brett Cameron taps it,
kicks it into the Standard Sky Stadium. The Hurricanes will
(00:34):
host a Super Rugby semi final next weekend. Hurricanes will
lose fort Peter Lachai with us. Peter, thanks for taking
our call on a Sunday, your day off. I'd imagine
how happy you reckon, the playing group and the coaches
were with last night or yesterday afternoons win over the
Melbourne Rebels.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, we're all happy.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
First semi finalite home since twenty sixteen, and that was
our goal at the start start of preseason was to
have a home playoffs and we got that through the
quarters and now we got through the semi so everyone
was happy. A few things you need to touch up
on from the Rebels game, but no, you're happy to
(01:13):
have a home seeming.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, exciting times for the players and for Hurricanes fans
as well. Just on the game last night, you were
only ahead seven six right up until just before halftime
when Josh Morby scored. Wasn't it quite coming together for
you in the first half?
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Do you think?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, we got credit to the Rebels.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
You know, under their circumstances, they came out firing in
that first twenty minutes, sort of stunned us. I guess
they were just physical coming after our breakdown, and they're
really good in line out time and their first twenty
minutes they really put us under the pump and leading
into halftime.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Second half though, it seemed as though you came out
with a lot more intent. I think five of your
tries in the second half. What do you think changed
after the break?
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I feel like they sort of slowed down. They weren't
coming after our breakdown as much and were just just camee.
We just got our k height right and we're cleaning
past the ball and we're lifted on a plan of
fatig and we're just playing on top, which is which
is how we play. We like to play quick in
and on top of teams, and yeah, that sort of
(02:21):
opened up for.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
The second half when you're trying to get yourself organized
and do you know, do the sorts of things you
just talked about there in the second half.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Whose are the loudest voices in the team?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
I'd imagine TJ's would be, But who else is kind
of driving the team around in moments like that?
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Jeordie, Jordy Barrett, He's sort of he's not only leads
of his words, but also his actions. So yeah, his
his words and actions will prospect the loudest.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Xavier and Mia looked like he blow a calf out.
It was really sad to see him have to come
off in the first half. Did you see him afterwards,
as I mean, were you able to sort of, you know,
to get around him and look after him, because it
looked like a quite a serious calf problem for Xavier.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Yeah, Yeah, philing feeling for Xavier.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
He's probably in career best for him, and he's playing
playing really he was playing really good rugby and year
to see him go down like that was it was
pretty sad. Yeah, he's he's in a he's in a
moon boot now and I sort of flipped them a message,
just just to get around them and just a little
more that we're here.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
It brings the Rebels franchise to an end. Of course,
pretty emotional scenes after full time. I'm not sure whether
you saw their huddle, but they were all all pretty emotional.
Did you spend any time with the Rebels players after
the game?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
No, not too much. We sort of shook hands after
the game. I caught up a little bit of bile
any equality. We've played a little bit in the engine
under twenties and caught up with him. But yeah, emotional
for them. I'm sad to see them leave, leave the
camp and but yes, hopefully those players find a.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
New home indeed.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
And for you guys, how exciting is it to know
that you know you've got a week ahead of you
now with a with a home semi final at the
end of it.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
What do you what do you think the week will
look like? Will it?
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Will it be pretty much the same as the week
you've just aired leading into the quarterfinal?
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Probably similar, but probably want to build build tours the weekend.
Probably trying not to look past, look past, look forward
to Saturday. We're just got to now. Each day Monday,
Monday to Friday and said they will come to So
I don't know, look look too far ahead, but yeah,
(04:44):
it should be similar to the weakness as go on,
but give me final and you were just going to
up the empty I guess.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Yeah, exciting time. So what do you do? Is today
a day off apart from having a chat to me?
What are you going to do today?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I was going to go players with the golf book.
Cloudy it's going to rain today, so yeah, no, I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Well, congratulations on another one for the Hurricanes. You've earned
yourselves another Monday, big week, your head mate. Thanks for
taking the time for.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
A chat Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
