The Warriors are seeking redemption this afternoon against the Gold Coast Titans after squandering a 14-0 lead against the Melbourne Storm last week at Mount Smart.

The home side started strong but struggled to maintain momentum in the second half as Storm and Kiwis halfback Jahrome Hughes took control. As a result, the Warriors extended their losing streak against the Storm to 16 matches.

The Titans will be looking to bounce back from losing to the Wests Tigers. The Titans, currently at the bottom of the ladder, failed to convert nine line-breaks into a victory. The Tigers, who had lost nine games in a row, managed to secure an 18-10 win.

Assistant Coach Richard Agar joined Jason Pine to review last week’s loss and take a look at today’s match.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
They'd be in URL round sixteen Warriors on the Gold
Coast to face the Titans five o'clock this afternoon. Last
time out for the Warriors are.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Very good one for Melbourne.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
That will be one of the best ones for them
this season.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
The Storm win by thirty eight points to twenty.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Four, so the Warrior's looking to bounce back from that.
Assistant coach Richard Agar joins us from the Gold Coast. Richard,
thanks for your time, mate. What are the main things
your review of that loss to the Storm threw up
when you had to look back at it.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Hey, Jason, thanks for having me on the show, mate. Yeah,
interesting question because you know, a pretty interesting game for us.
We fell. You know, our starts of the game were
really good and when we looked, I guess statistically I
were performed in the game. A lot of this stuff
around his defense, you know, in terms of book control
and our field position were really really good. When we

(01:02):
looked at the I guess the big moments in the game,
you know, I having a ball smashed off us for
a try, we spilled the ball on last play the
line break, we conceded we had a man down injured,
you know, and that's sort of no great excuse, we
could have handled that better, but we actually felt that
that and you know, the period where we had twelve

(01:23):
men and eleven men, there were some really big moments
and damaging moments, but throughout the sort of I guess
armoss lais of the game and statistically we actually did
a lot of things pretty well in the game. So
I think, you know, it's it's a lesson in the
big moments and on in the big moments, and certainly

(01:44):
playing against sidellit Melbourne that I guess for a long
long time they've been used to hanging in games and
waiting for opportunities, and yeah, yeah they took them. Look,
I think coming off the field and looking at the
scoreboard with thirty eight points year on review, we've come
away thinking, no, how did that happen? But we've done

(02:06):
a lot of things right in that game to thirty
eight points put on us. At the same time, I think,
you know, we need to probably get a little bit
more fluent see through our spine again. You know, we
had some changes there and you know, some combinations that
have not been together for a number of weeks, and
I think that's that's certainly an improvement we'll look for

(02:27):
this week and then in and around our kicking again.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
You've obviously I got some changes this week as well,
with suppliers out for various reasons, some of them good ones.
Capel much bean it of course on origin duty. You've
got Dellan out for a week with suspension, Roco Beery's injured.
You feel like you've got the kettle to cover those losses.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Ruch, Yeah, I think I think we have definitely, I
think squad det for something that we're really happy about
during the course of the year. I think I think
the flip side to that is we probably haven't had
the continuity in his line up over long periods. You know,
we looked at our team coming back last week and
it will probably as stronger team as we've had our
out for a number of weeks. But nonetheless, I still

(03:10):
think you look down our team sheet and the guys
coming in, you know, more than capable guys. Obviously, Roger
comes back in the back line. Ed Coss is the
player that's got twenty at first grade experience, and you know,
the two guys that are playing Origin. I think, first
thing service we you know, we're extremely happy, not only
happy for those two guys, but really proud that our

(03:32):
clubs providing guys for both Origin teams this week. But yeah,
I think I still think we've got enough depth and
experience to get a side out there that's strong enough
to do the job.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
On the flip side, of course, Roger ta shik is
Beck having missed the last five matches, it's a silly question.
I know I have big a booster is it going
to be? But but what do you what are you
expecting from Roger upon his return?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
One thing about Roger what we know? You know that
his level of professionalism is probably unmatched anywhere in sport,
and he's back looking lucky sharp. I think the X
week has really helped him in terms of we've been
able to get some more training into him and integrating
more into our fault team practice and unit practice, which
you were probably a little bit short last week. But

(04:21):
Roger's really excited by the challenge and the challenge this
week for him is is a good one.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
You know.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
I think Brian Kelly for the Titans has been a
really shining light for them is an unpredictable player that
makes things happen. And I think, you know Roger coming
up again, there'll be two guys that both want the
ball in the hand, both can make things happen when
there's not a lot harm and it be a terrific contest.
But Roger's got a great presence for us on the

(04:50):
training field and our game day. So yeah, we're super
glaps having back.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Can you win in to the Titans twenty seven twenty
four on nzick? Are any listens rich from that game
that you'll take into this one?

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah? I reckon, So I reckon there's some good lessons
to come out of that game. You know, they're a
team that I'll love playing. Shut us down on the
edges a little bit, and I think I think during
that game, you know, one review, we look back, we
probably had a lot of scoring opportunities in that game
that we'd even quite ice and perhaps got a little
bit frustrated when we got into good attacking positions. I
think that's something at the weekend that it would feel,

(05:25):
you know, fulfilled those occasions that that's happening that you know,
we just got to stay composed and play the longer
game A little bit all right.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Right, John, know you've got team meetings, etcetera to get to,
so I appreciate your time. Thanks for joining us. Richard
I guard they're assistant coach of the Warriors. Five o'clock
this afternoon they take on the Titans, bottom of the table,
although as I mentioned there, they beat the Warriors on
an Zec day, so let's hope the Warriors jump back
on that winning horse and get a win. It it
was a sea bus. Is that the name of the
stadium on the Gold Coast? I can picture it. I've

(05:53):
driven past it a couple of times. That's where the
Titans play five o'clock this afternoon, leading nicely into kickoff
and the rugby at just after seven.
