Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks EDB News Talks.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
That'd be what a pleasure to have Scott robertson with
us here at the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport.
He's had to shoot away. They've got a meeting at too,
But thank you for all your calls and correspondence. We
really enjoyed receiving all your messages. Are passed on some
of the some of the ones that were in suitable
for on here to Razor as well. Fantastic during the
week the All Blacks of course assembled here on Wednesday.
When they did, I had the chance to catch up
(00:34):
with All Black's Open side flank at Dalton papai Wee Sport.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Hell about the celebrations the other night. Ah, yeah, pretty good,
but it's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
You know, it's a long time coming, so I think
the boys went for it and uh, here's going to
be still some boys that are pretty feeling it at
the moment. But yeah, new campaign, but a lot of
the boys, you know have other other you know, campaigns
are going into the muldy or Blacks boys winning a
bit earlier than us and we knew were coming here,
so so we.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Had to go pretty pretty hard, pretty fast.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
But boys really enjoyed it and enjoyed a great He's
in that to celebrate that trophy once.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah, they must be.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I want to talk about the All Blacks, but there
must be some deep satisfaction with what the Blues achieved.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Is there one hundred percent?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
You know, I think I've been in that team for
a long time and think like eight years now, and
you know, the first couple of years we, let's be honest,
we sucked and we got we got hit pretty hard
with games and stuff, and that we lost. And then
we started to grow with Regie Rangee Lil McDonald under
the helm and he, you know, was there's sort of there.
And there was a few games of a few finals
(01:36):
that playoff games we did lose, and I think with
Verne coming in, you know, I think he already had
the platform from that was already made from leon and
we finally did it, so weight off the shoulders, there
was more.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It was good celebrating, but it was more.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
You know, sometimes I sort of sat back and I
was just soaking it all in that you know, we
finally did it.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I love that all right, So you transition from super
rugby to all Blacks rugby. You've done that transition a
few times. What are the main challenges around transitioning from
Blues to all Blacks.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I think it's just fully getting into a new game plan,
and especially this year and with the new coaching and
the new coaching staff that want to sort of implement
their style and their game plan. Because you know, the
coaches we've had before, I've always sort of been in
the in the system and you know, assistant coaches and
and all that, so we sort of knew what the
what the game plan, what the base and the platform
(02:27):
was was like. But with the new coaching staff, complete
new complete, new coaching staff, it's going to be very different.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
So it's right now, I think, you know, the next.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Couple of day is going to be more about clarity
and especially the boys finalist boys coming in here and
get to know the game plan because I'm pretty sure
most of the boys who weren't in the finals had
had another camp.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
So I think that we've got a lot of learning
to do. But looking forward to it, do you.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Feel like you've got a decent crack at this number seven?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Jersey yeah, you know every year. That's my mindset.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
You know, you never owned the Jersey and I've had
a few years in the Jersey now where you know,
one week I have it the week and the next
week I do own.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
So I take it for granted. But the cool thing
is that when you come to this environment, you get
the best.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Out of all the lucies because you know, it's a
tough competition, you know, out there. So I'm looking forward
to it and it's always a decent.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Crack and I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, you touched on a real area of strength and
New Zealand rugby. You look at the guys who haven't
made the squad for example, and there's some bloody good
loose forwards there. So Addie assessed the strength of six
seven and eight at the moment in New Zealand rugby.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
That's probably one of our strongest, strongest positions. You look through,
like you said yourself, you look through the super rugby
and how how much talent is coming through that, you know,
the six.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Seven and eight. It keeps you on your toes.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
That's a good thing. And I remember when I was
a young fella coming and I you know, I was
doing the same with the young fellow's doing to me.
So that's a cool thing.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
You know.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
The best for you to play your your best is
you know, you have good competition within the team and
there's no love loss. We all want to get better
and at the end of the day, we're all part of.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
The same team.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
And my goal at the end of the day is
to win. And I want to win, you know, I
want to dominate teams. I want to win on the
highest level in the and the biggest stadiums. And for
me to do that, as like I said, you know,
it's a competition within the team, and you know, I
think we've got a lot of talent, and especially the
boys who didn't make it the Lucy's, they're going to
be knocking on the door straight away.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
So yeah, And in that regard in terms of all
wanting the same thing, how do you welcome and support
a new guy like Wallace Satisi. This is all new
to him, right he turns up this morning, gets all
his new gear. You know, I mean, how do you
how do you make sure that he's he's okay.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
You've just got to have a little conversations with him,
you know, And he's an awesome player, and he's he's.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Shoonned this here.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Man, he really did. He really put his name up
forward and he got there. Got the fruits now. But
you can say it's the fruits, but you're coming to
this environment and the fruits is being on.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
The field and doing that, doing the damage.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
So man, So it's a little conversations and you're putting
around around him, and it's not more of the on field,
it's it's the stuff off the field, you know, connecting
them going and getting coffee and stuff like that. But
the cool thing with this team is that when I
was coming in as well, all the older guys did that.
So it's sort of it's sick of nature to walk
at him the new boys.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Because you know how speechial that is. So yeah, that's
how it's going to be happen.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
That is Dot and Papali who was here along with
the other members all of them, and some extras as well.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
