Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Fine
from News Talks Ed b Walds midfield.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Bounces well, it bounds up and you feel under well.
Right Hey to Mat maks up on her left hand side,
baht follow can she escapes again? Kaitland b ha follow
down the left hand side of the park stores New
Zealand's first of the day. Joseph goes down the left
hand blind Twoe releases of the hak hollo for ha
hollo down the left flight side hill. Score that will
(00:34):
be full time. England's too good at Twickenham twenty four
to twelve.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
That's our rugby editor and lead commentator Elliot Smith calling
it England's red roses a bit of a thorn in
the Black Ferns side, winning their home rugby international twenty
four to twelve at Twickenham. In the early hours of
this morning. New Zealand trailed twenty four nil early in
the second half. Before those too late tries to Caitlin
call or closed the gap. Black Fern's winger Ruby Tooey
(01:02):
came off the bench and set up the second of
those tries. As you heard, she joins us. Now, Ruby,
how do you reflect first of all, on the game
in broad sort of general terms. Yeah, look, that.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Game really helped us out. We've got to see a
lot of pictures, We've got to try a lot of things,
and mate, the crowd was awesome. A few of us
stayed around afterwards to sign a few things and the
support forms, right we have. Yeah, it was really cool
experience for his.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Hand, unbelievable. So in terms of the game itself, quite
a bit of early pressure exerted by the black Ferns,
a bit frustrating that you couldn't well disappointing you couldn't
convert that early pressure into some points.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yeah, look, that was probably the best start we've had
in a long time. I think England probably would have
been really frustrated in that first bit as well. And
I think you know, there were just a couple of
tiny moments, passes, bounces kind of thing that if they
went the other way, you know, we definitely would have
been a nil some points. All credits to England when
(02:04):
they come into their green done and out twenty two.
You know, they converted. You got to commend that. And
then in the second half I started to open up again,
so you know, it was a bit of an army resort.
I think we played really well for a big chunk
of that game. The parts that they played well, they converted,
so you have to commit England on that.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
How did you find it watching on from the bench?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, to be honest, that's my first time ever coming
off the bench for the Black Friends, and it's man,
I could hardly sit down, to be honest. It was
so exciting, you know. It was so cool to see
ashev Sijinger return to the Black jusey and you just
sprinting down that worm like nothing else. On one of
her breaks, offt ied sprinting down the wind weather and
I got told off to come back to the sub box.
So it was just it was so cool. But like
(02:50):
you know, I try and dedicate my life to being
a really good Black Friend, but at my heart, I'm
just such a fan of this team. So it was
such a cool occasion. It was really really awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Once you got on, do you did you find it?
Like people say, I go on make an impact, but
did you did it take a little bit of time
to get into the game or were you okay once
you got on there?
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Now, there was one thing I found watching from the
bench you can kind of see, you know, that last
pass or you can see where the space kind of
was opening up. So yeah, it was. It was really cool. Actually,
I think it actually helped me doup the sea and
Hohire coming on. You know, we could we could kind
of see where to infiltrate them, and we ended up yeah,
(03:29):
well at least one try. I can't remember exactly, but no,
it was. It actually sets up quite well, being able
to see the space before you go on.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
A ticket and a couple of tries for Caitlin at
the end, how much you know, how much confidence I
guess do you take from that that you know, eventually
you did bust them down, got a couple of tries,
So I guess, just do it, you know a little
bit earlier in the game. Would that be the would
that be the key when you meet them again shortly?
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yeah, definitely, there's just you know, I really I actually
can't wait to watch the footage because there's just going
to be so much gold in there for us, you know, definitely,
Like I said, got to commend them on their twenty
two entries, but looking back at ours, I know all
of us are going to be being like, oh, I
was so close. So if anything, it just really wracked
us up. It's a really exciting you know, I'm actually
(04:18):
really grateful Daly us come over here and have a jam.
Got to go to talking them, you know, got to
be in London where the World Cup will be top
monks out. So if anything, that just I'm pretty sure
I can speak on behalf of the girls. That just
made us so excited moving forward and moving into this
next chapter of our junet to get it. It's oh man,
I'm really excited.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
That's cool because yeah, because you get to obviously continue
now with w XV one, you get another crackit England
in a couple of weeks, Goot Island as well. So
there is there confidence, excitement, optimism as you as you
look to I guess hop on a plane shortly and
get to the get to the next port of.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
Corp absolutely like this is so cool to have the
wxpeed competition. You know, some years for the Black Friends
you're just playing and once and met it. But we're
so lucky, you know, we've got these competitions. Now you're right,
we get to go bang three more internationals out and
it's it's really crucial for our preparation. We don't know
(05:10):
when we'll play them again, you know, so the double
XV will head over to Canada's phone and it's going
to be you know, really really fun after that game,
but it felt like a little tasty, you know, so
we're really looking forward to WXV and we really stoked
to have that competition.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
What is Twikingham like, yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Talking them, it's it's pretty cool. It's got another kind
of third tier, like one more than Eden Park, and
then it's got this kind of half roof that comes
over and what ends up happening is the acoustics just
kind of multiply so when the crowd goes off or
even we didn't kept the running with no one in
there and Kanya coronevally sneeze and it honestly was so
loud because it goes so loud. So it's like it's
(05:51):
quite a funny stadium for playing because every time the
crowd wills, it's really really loud. And it was really cool.
You know, they love the Hacker, they really you know,
we could hear them cheering for us as well. Definitely
heard the kiwis that were out there, so it's definitely
one of a kind talking them stadium. Oh man, I
think last of my played here was the Simmons in
like twenty fifteen or something. So it was it was
(06:11):
called to come back, run it back and have a jam.
And I'll tell you I'm looking forward to tom at
time for sure.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And have you got King Charles's phone number in your
phone now?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
And I like, you're going to see the well? Like
what is it? Even? I don't know if you've been
to London, you know how Eyon goes to London. And
then you got to stand outside the fin like I've
ever done by the find opened up. We drove in
the bus and then the castle and you might drive
right through the whole wall. So buzzy bro. But no,
(06:46):
he was the King was really really nice. It will
be down to earth and he played rugby in the
Secular and broke his nose.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Some fact A good fact too. Thanks for staying up
late for us, Ruby, safe travels. Look forward to seeing
how the Black Fians go in WX me one.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Hey, look, thank you so much covering one. We appreciate
it more than you know, and thank you for all
the support and back home starts appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
No good on your Ruby. Thanks indeed, Ruby twey there
out of the Black Ferns Camp twenty four to twelve,
went down to England at twicken In this morning. So
they're on a plane now and in two weeks they
begin WXV one, they take on they go to Canada.
All of these games are in Canada. In Vancouver. They
take on Ireland on Monday September thirty, then England again
in Vancouver on Monday October seven, and then on Sunday,
(07:34):
October thirteenth, also Vancouver, they play France. So a good
gauge and another crack at England in the not too
distant future.
