Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks EDB.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Defending champion Blues going to travel down the Motorway play
the Chiefs and Hamilton on Saturday night, and we'll do
so with some confidence after yesterday's outing against the war
Atars at Eden Park. Over it goes.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
That is full time, the Blues do their bets, but
will it be enough? Forty six six a bonus point
when seven tries to none the Blues out class the
war Tarz.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
It was and half Blues assistant coach Paul Tetor is
with us. Paul, that one over the Wartars forty six
to six a good result. How happy were you to
finish the regular season with such an emphatic one?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Yeah, hey, you know, we knew we're here to get
the job done. I think, first and foremost where to
win the game, and they need to worry about that
bonus point secondary. So you know, it was pleasing to
score those couple of tries just for half time, which
potentially to the window of the sales for the Warrior cars.
But on your question, you know, pleasing to get the
(01:13):
result and we earn the right to go on on Monday,
and you know we're all day to day to make
sure we're ready to go down the highway. Like you said, of.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Course you knew that a one of PACIFICA could jump
back over the top of you if they beat the
Hurricanes with a bonus point, which obviously didn't happen any
any nervous moments they went up early, but after that
you always felt confident Hurricanes would do you a favor.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Well, I definitely thought Moana on their day could win
that game. But you know, I mean to beat the
Hurricanes by three tries I felt was always a big
ask for them. But you know, I think you know
everyone's touched on it. They've had an outstanding season. You know,
they miss out, but they'll be better for that, and
you know next year they'll they'll grow another league.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Absolutely right. Funny our regular season for you guys, six wins,
eight losses. What are the most valuable reflections she can
take from the regular season heading into the finals?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Well, I think we just look at the Chiefs. You know,
we played them for around and then first round around
after the buye. You know that first round we met
a lot of boys that were undercooked and Chiefs were
in a similar position and they backed their squad, so
you know that's mutually learning for us moving forward. But
in that last game we went Hamilton and we were competitive,
(02:26):
there wasn't much in it. We know we have to
be at our best to compete with the Chiefs. At
the moment, I think, especially the last couple of weeks,
I've really gone up a level. So you know that
they're starting while they're starting fast, so we know we're hunting.
No illusion how tough it will be to go to
Hamilton to win. But also on this on the flip side,
(02:47):
is actually taking some confidence that we have gone down
and they're informed. So no, we looked as a coaching
group to set up a week to make sure we
get things right and head down the road with confidence.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
In terms of personnel, you lost offer on the Fussy
fairly early on. Sam Dowry hasn't played at all this
season after being a big influence for you last season.
How significant has the loss of those two players in
particular being.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I think what they bring to the team is huge.
Obviously different parts of the game, but really own their
own space and we've definitely missed them. But you know
that's rugby and all teams are like this, so you know,
we can't really look back. They're still they still have
influence in our group, the top men. They care about
the Blues and they'll be in this week pear the boys.
(03:36):
So they're ready to go on, did they not?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I guess with Offer dropping out, it's opened the door
for Josh, for stur to play a much more significant role.
In fact, he's played every game for you, Paul, You reckon,
he's look tet around abut him, you reckon, He's ready
for the next step up.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yeah, he's a great human. Josh one of the hardest
working guys in our team, always here on a day off,
preparing himself to go on the weekend. You know, you
look at his d stats, he's here right up there
is We're great, huge, So yeah, I think he's taking
his opportunities this year with Hopper out, Like you said, Yeah,
(04:15):
I think he's there or thereabouts. And you know, in
these big games, that's where you can really put your
hand up and cement your spot on that in that
black jersey. But you know, I think Josh himself will
just known him. He'll just be getting his head down
on making sure he's ready to go for said date.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I look at the team you put out yesterday, I
think is the first time at about six games you've had
Caleb Clark and Mike Talaya start together. You got other
guys coming back, and you actually arrived, do you, Paul
at finals time with pretty much your first choice side available?
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yeah, I think apart from those two that you mentioned
that we're season long injuries, I think we're there or thereabouts. So,
I mean, I was a nice see the backs last
night playing was a bit more confidence and then getting
the ball to what then getting the ball to those
guys like you've just mentioned, you know, massive influence in
the game, and you know, one on one they're pretty
(05:04):
good themselves. So you know, it's exciting week and we've
got to nailed as a coaching group to make sure
we set them up for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Is this niggle between the Blues and Mawana pacifica reel
or is this just about a social media banter going on?
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Well, I'm not really on social media.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
You're probably the wrong guy to ask.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
The first thing I walked in this morning and one
of the boys said, jee is getting out of hand.
But you know, I mean, I think that it's all
about likes and thumbs up and stuff like this is
what I understand. So mard enough that's good for the
game or bad for the game. But you know, I mean,
all all I say is, you know, let's get on
with it. And you know, I mean tip your head
(05:47):
to Mowana. They've had a good year and we've made
it and we've got a big game on set.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah you're doingdeed. Hey, thanks, Paul Gott to leave it there.
I appreciate your time though. Paul Tittle, assistant coach of
the Blues.
