Super Rugby going down thirty five twenty eight to the
Brumbies in Canberra last night.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Smashing their bodies at the line. A meja short left
of the left hand up rights? How much longer can
the Hurricanes hold on? Slipper goes over scores.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
A try not much longer?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
These your answer to the left and the left hand
up rights on the hour mark makes it thirty three
twenty one. Kick to come, old man Slipper gets his
team closer to a semi final spot.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, and the Brumby is earning that semi final spot.
They'll take on the Chiefs in Hamilton this coming Saturday night.
For the Hurricanes, their season is over. Assistant coach Cory
Jane joins us Corey, thanks for your time. You'll have
woken up, no doubt, a bit deflated today with your
season now over. What are your initial reflections on the
game against the Brumbies last night?

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yeah, got it? Yeah, I thought we came we trained well,
we came over here a good night set to you know,
came more to come over and won and yeah it
disappointed that that we weren't able to and uh, you know,
we did the moments where we looked a right and
then there was moments where we gave them what they

(01:25):
were really really good at and it's set piece inside
our twenty two and and the Brumbies took advance of it.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Where specifically do you think they had the edge? I
mean you just outlined you know, inside your red zone.
I guess you can call it was that kind of
where you think they hit a specific edge over you.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Yeah, well we uh uh, you know, did a bit
of steps of ben nealysis on on these strengths and
and a lot of it was offline out off set
peace and especially once.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
You start getting down to the the twenty two's close
to the goal line, that's where they live. And I
thought we did a good job on on stopping them
around the middle of the field and now part and
you know, allowed them too much access to to get
to their strength, which is they're more you know, picking
goes and being physical and that was through not catching

(02:18):
our kickoffs a couple of times and then just super
penalties that yeah let them in there, and we made
a lot of hard for ourselves.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, five converted tries against four converted tries. That was
back and forth. Lead changes here and there, didn't in
the second after it always feel like you were chasing
the game a little bit.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
No, it didn't. We still thought even with twenty minutes
ago that we're still we didn't get maybe a few
cars that we were hoping to be from the rest,
and that was a little bit a little bit frustrating,
But it didn't actually well in the box. It didn't
feel like, you know, we're panicking and had to chase it.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
So I mean, do you do you review last night
or do you just now put a put a cap
on the season and look ahead.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
At some stage will have to We won't do it
as a as a group at the moment, but some
stage us as coaches, we have to pick up our
little boy pants and look through it and just get
a feel for what we're wrong. And then obviously we'll
be looking at our season anyway. And you know, it's
disappointing to with some some downs all year and a

(03:34):
few niggles and injury that we fought through it and
get ourselves a taunts at the end, but yeah, disappointing
not to get past the Bumpies and Canberra in the quarterfinal.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
You keep the vast majority of your squad though for
next year, get Jordy Barrett back. You reckon this team
can take an extra couple of steps and really contend
in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, I think how doesn't listen of the pleasing sight,
you know, as they are young and and we aren't building.
It's it's trying to get better of as coaches, be
better as uh, you know, as planners, and obviously there's
a small window and and super rugby and you know
we might be in there that part. We're just gonna,

(04:18):
you know, continue to brow our players and and us
as coaches and and hopefully Nial you know, we can
we can be better because you're right thing to put
the come.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Ups and in the squad and in a couple of
weeks they'll be an all black squad named. Do you expect
to hear a few Hurricanes names in the list?

Speaker 4 (04:38):
I hope so. Uh, you know, there these guys and
then team that have played really, really good and I
think that the most end our sport has probably been Dupes.
I think he's been our standing as a as a player,
but also as a leader, So yeah, I think it's
cost for him because he deserves it.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Indeed, I don't think you'll get too many arguments on
that one. Commiserations on last night, CJ. Thanks for always
being accessible to us across the season. Safe travels, Mate, cheers, Mate,
point point see you'll love to see j Thanks indeed,
Corey Jane assistant coach, understandably deflated after their exit last
night at the at the first Finals hurdle, going down
to the Brumbies thirty five twenty eight in camera, So

(05:25):
the Brumbies.
