Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks EDB.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well afternoon on News Talk ZB. This is Weekend Sport.
Let's get you across the Tasman Our. Australian correspondent Adam
Peacock standing by as always, a big week of racing
ahead and I'm going I want to start with rugby.
It's been a big year for the Wallabies already eleven
tests so far in twenty twenty five, for more to go,
starting with England tomorrow morning at twicken them. How confident

(00:35):
are you about a Wallaby's winning this one?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, well this is where it started Piney Tour months ago,
that the kind of rejuvenation of this side by winning
a Test that really on paper they weren't expected to
in the last minute might add. And there's nothing like
beat the Ponds on their own turf and especially ripping
victory away from them as well in the last last
few seconds. So yeah, this is what started to give

(00:59):
a bit more hope in Australian and rugby. Now counteracting
that for this is the fact that the English I'm
going to believe I've done a deal with all their clubs,
so it's outside the designated international window this game. Dave
released all their players, whereas we can't get access to
all our players because a few of them are like
Will Skelton, for instance, playing in France, so going in

(01:21):
on the back foot, I would think on that, and
let's face it, when Will Skelton plays for Autorlia, we
tend at the moment to become a different side. So yeah,
talking it down, but there's still hope that we can
get one over the English.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Looking forward to seeing how that plays out tomorrow. And
now the Australian women's cricket team beaten at the Cricket
World Cup knock that in the Simmis by India. This
was some game. India chased down three hundred and thirty
nine to win this one with nine balls to spare
to win by five wickets. I guess you kind of
just have to take your head off to India, don't you.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Absolutely, yeah, there's no other way of looking at it.
That Look, the Australians had their chances and there were
minimal chances. It was a game where it was played
on a deck which was always going to produce a
lot of runs, which means it puts extra pressure on
when a chance is created to really take it. And
there was a couple in there, a Lisa Heally, our

(02:15):
good friend because I do a podcast with her. I'm
not going to bag her, but she grafts one that
she really on another day she absolutely takes with her
eyes shut. So it was just one of those occasions,
unfortunately for Australia, where a few things went wrong and
India took every opportunity and it happened in twenty seventeen
in India beat Australia at a World Cup semi finals.
So it's not a complete outlier, but the way that

(02:37):
Australia were going about it, they dominated the group stage basically,
they smashed South Africa. Last game, went in very confident
and India just came up with the performance for the
ages to do them and all of a sudden it
becomes a bad tournament. It's a really harsh one, but
that's the way it goes and that's what they've had
to cop unfortunately.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Is she about to hang up the cricketing white or
the cricketing colors, Alyssa Healey?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Did?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
I see?

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yeah, she's towards the end and I won't be against
that because then we'll have full access for her appearances
on Willow Talk. Yeah, but no, she's one of those,
one of those players Piney that has done so much
in the game. It's on her watch when she decides
that the clocks ticked to where it has to go

(03:28):
for the next age of her life. It's up to her,
and at the moment it looks like it's going to
be soon. Exactly when we're not sure, but there's a
T twenty World Cup I think next year that she
might she might call time after that, but it's up
to her. She's such a legend and she proved it
again this tournament with a couple of huge knocks at
the start of the tournament.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
A big rugby league story this week surrounding Ryan Pappenhaus
in the Melbourne Storm Star but no longer. He's walked
away from the final year of his contract. What's he
going to do? I've heard him linked with R three sixty,
but I saw an interesting message last night from him
on Instagram saying he he's just going to take a
bit of a break.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
What are you hearing?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, and that's the first actual official line we've heard.
That was the whisper like everyone a through sixty presumed
that he was going to be one of the first ones.
But then whispers started to go No, he's actually just
going to chill out and wait and work out what
he wants to do. Obviously, he doesn't want to rush
into a through sixty because everyone around the world who's

(04:30):
even heard of it is thinking, well, okay, we'll prove
that you've got this money, prove that you're going to
run a competition, and from a player in rugby league,
especially with the threats that are around, like a ten
year ban and all that, it's not something you could
jump into. And Ryan Papanhousen as a guy I don't
know him personally, but talking to a few other people
the top, a guy that's not defined by what he does.

(04:52):
He's not like, you know, he'll happily get to the
end of his footy life and then go off and
do other things. So yeah, it'll be an interesting one
if he takes a sabbatic or we've seen it in
other sports that he just decided I'll just go and
do something else for a bit. I mean, he could
be the one to go up and play a bit

(05:13):
of Japanese rugby for instance, for a Sabatica and then
decide after that to come back to rugby league or whatever.
So I don't think there's anything Sinister is trying to
manufacture and move ahead of time to another rugby league club.
The thought is that, yeah, he's just going to assess
and work out what's best.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
All right.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
We'll keep eyes on that big week of racing ahead,
the biggest week of racing in Australia with the Melbourne
Cup carnival kicking off today at Flemington, with Derby Day
Derby Day today.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Is it? Yeah? Yeah, Derby Day, Derby Day in Melbourne
and Golden Eagle Day at Randwick. So this is another
one where new South Wals racing authorities have gone no Victoria,
you shouldn't have full kind of sway over the calendar.
We're going to create a big day ourselves to counteract

(06:02):
what you're doing down there. So three group ones down
at Fleming and great races, but up here we've got
a ten million dollar race to Golden Eagle. An interesting
tiny they've actually marketed a bit differently this year. They're
calling it Golden Mingle Day. Do you want to explain
quickly what that means please. So if you're single, you

(06:23):
go to the races and at the gate you get
giving a green batch, which basically says to the opposite
sex or whoever it might be, you know, we're an
open society now that you can come and talk to
me and let's try and hook up. So they've come

(06:43):
up with so the Golden Mingle is the thing.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Amazing, the golden tender day by the sounds of it
at Randwick, good right day, that's right, that's right, is
well in a good day for racing as well, And
presumably you'll be at Flemington on Tuesday for Melbourne Cup.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yeah, yeah, I'm looking forward to it actually because even
though it doesn't have the Cup this year doesn't have
this wow horse, it's so hard to line up. You've
got form converging from just about every racing jurisdiction that's
worth its worth its spoon of sugar around the world.
So yeah, it's a really intriguing osis yea. And it

(07:21):
should be a great day Plumbington as always.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, fantastic stuff all right. Might enjoy your weekend and
your time in Melbourne and will catch up again about
the same time next Saturday.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Sounds good. Thanks Finny, No, thank you, Adam.

Speaker 2 (07:31):

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
