Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. Ten years ago. On October fourteenth, twenty fourteen,
Jimmy Page released to the public a relatively affordable hardcover
book of photographs from all throughout his first seventy years.
Jimmy includes comments through studios and stages all over the
world with the Yardbirds and Zeppelin. In the earliest image

of Jimmy, he's singing as a choir boy. Singing was
not necessarily as important to young James Patrick Page, as
was his discovery of guitar. Right around the same time.

I was a cowboy around Natan, I was playing guitar.
I probably was about twelve. In America, did they talk
A lot of the black musicians said that he came
from church. I don't know whether I could really say
that that it came from church.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Twenty five years ago, on October fifteenth, nineteen ninety nine,
the Black Crows were touring with a very special guest.
They had just appeared in New York at Roseland Ballroom,
and I was there.

This is my favorite part of the evening. Our guitar
Jimmy Paine and I still forget on vocals mister Rich Robinson.

Hey Hey, what Can I Do? Was a B side
led Zeppelin had never played live. Jimmy had started performing
it with Robert Plant in more recent years. He kept
the song alive with The Black Crows, Oddly Freed on
Mandolin ten years ago. On October sixteenth, twenty fourteen, Led

Zepplin gave a preview of their upcoming remastered fourth album.
They released the previously discarded alternate mix of their song
rock and Roll on streaming services. Jimmy liked having options,
so when he wasn't satisfied with the mix from Sunset
Sounds Studios in Hollywood, he mixed the song again at
Island And Studios in London. The London mix is the

only version we all heard for forty plus years. After
Zeppelin's Deluxe Collector's Edition came out, album sales rose from
twenty three million to twenty four million. Only the most
discerning listeners can tell the Hollywood mix from the London mix.

Fifty five years ago. On October seventeenth, nineteen sixty nine,
Carnegie Hall lifted their ban on rock acts, permitting two
shows from led Zeppelin at eight thirty and midnight. John
Bonham was well aware of Carnegie Hall's close association with
jazz acts for decades. He gave his bandmates a pre
show pep talk, informing them of such names as Gene

Krupa and Buddy Rich. A review of the Carnegie Hall
show compared John Bonham to those legends by name twenty

five years ago. On October eighteenth, nineteen ninety nine, Jimmy
Page and the Black Crows played the first of two
nights at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. After these
shows the tour ended, somebody suggested it might be time
they record a live album. Live sound engineer Kevin Shirley
admitted that he had already been recording them live at

the Greek. When the live album from Page and the
Crows album materialized, they initially subtitled it Excess All Areas.
