Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
Letout calendar. On November eleventh, nineteen seventy one, Led Zeppelin's
second UK tour of the year got underway with a
sold out show at Newcastle City Hall. Robert Plant announced quote,
well we're off again, and they were again. Led Zeppelin's
(00:22):
untitled fourth album had come out just in time for
this tour by only three days. Crowd members shouted out
their own requests as Robert struggled to announce anything. Previously,
this song rock and Roll, had been played only as
an encore, but now it was in the middle of
the set. A cool ten years ago. On November twelfth,
(00:55):
twenty fourteen, Jimmy Page promoted his self titled book of
photographs in Downtown. He spent an evening in conversation with
singer Chris Cornell, with a live studio audience seeing whichever
of Jimmy's photos Chris chose to display.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I don't know the photographs of Chris's child. He's got
really really cool ones for me to talk about.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I can tell you because of led Zeppelin's music. Chris
credited Jimmy with forging alternative rock one generation earlier. Thus,
he said, Jimmy paved the way for Chris and his
band Soundgarden and Audio Slave. Well, I didn't know that
you were actually doing something that would allow someone like
me years later to have a career doing what I
(01:38):
want and not having to hit driven rock and roll
music fifty years ago. On November thirteenth, nineteen seventy four,
a press release from Swan Song Records announced Led Zeppelin's
tour plans. A new song being mixed in London that
very day would be coming on the road with them.
Olympic Sound Studios had long been led Zeppelin's favorite London
location to record. Jimmy Page was there one last time,
(02:01):
playing back and mixing the latest additions to a song
with the working title Driving through Kashmir. Some brass and
string players, under the direction of John Paul Jones, had
carried out Jimmy's vision for orchestrating the song.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
There was just pase it went burning, bands burn, and
I thought at the time brass and I thought of that,
I visualized it with orchestra.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
On November fourteenth, two thousand and six, Led Zeppelin were
inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. The ceremony
was held in London and Jimmy Page accepted the honor
in person. The Shiny New Award, presented to Jimmy by
Queen drummer Roger Taylor, has a similarly twisted shape to
that of led Zeppelin's The object.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
It means so much to a lot of people and
certainly to the band. You know, it was really great
to have had such wonderful times.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Following Jimmy's remarks, the Australian band wolf Mother had the
honor of for forming led Zeppelin's communication breakdown. This left
both lead vocal and guitar duties to fruntman Iron Stockdown.
(03:16):
On November fifteenth, nineteen seventy six, Swan Song announced led
Zeppelin's movie, The Song Remains the Same, was set to
open in thirty five additional US cities. The press release
boasts of certain statistics quote according to Variety, the movie
had the thirteenth biggest gross in the country last week,
a remarkable fact considering it is running in only seven theaters.
(03:40):
The two Records set soundtrack to the film with Ship
platinum and is currently number two on all three industry
music charts. Continuing the quote, incorporating concert footage and fantasy sequences.
This cinematic tour of Led Zeppelin and Concert and Beyond
will be opening throughout the United States. Please consult local
listings for theaters and times. Unquote. This is Carol Miller.
