Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar fifty years ago. On January sixth, nineteen seventy five,
the weight was over for Led Zeppelin tickets to go
on sale in the New York area. Not only were
Zeppelin playing three shows at the Garden, but they'd also
play a couple of shows at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.
A combined total of ninety thousand tickets for those five

area shows went on sale, and within thirty six hours
they were all sold out. A third Nassau Coliseum show
was later added. By the time Led Zeppelin completed their
run of New York area shows, fans were able to
chew on a piece of Zeppelin's sixth album and first
double album, Physical Graffiti. On January seventh, nineteen sixty seven,

Jimmy Page completed an American tour with the Yardbirds. The
last show they played was at the Commodore ball Room
in Lowell, Massachusetts. When the Yardbirds returned to England, the
ex wrestler Peter Grant informed them of a change in
their management. He was now going to be the band's
manager going forward. So that was that Peter managed the
Yardbirds right on through their breakup the following year in

nineteen sixty eight, while Jimmy Hands selected the bandmates who
became led Zeppelin, he kept Peter on as band manager.

On January eighth, nineteen seventy, Led Zeppelin were reportedly an
hour late for their set at the Bristol Beacon. They
had booked the gig with no opening act. Zeppelin had
no opening act at Birmingham Town Hall the previous night either.
This was one of the new management decisions ushered in
by Peter Grant. Upon the occasion of Zeppelin's fifth UK tour,

John Paul Jones toured with a keyboard instrument the first
time with led Zeppelin. He opened the song thank You
with an organ improvisation that changed nightly. On January ninth,

nineteen forty four, James Patrick Page was born. Today we
call him Doctor Jimmy Page, Obe Officer of the Order
of the British Empire. Jimmy holds honorary doctorates from the
University of Surrey and the Berkeley College of Music in Boston.
Jimmy was a session guitarist and an artist before ever
playing in live touring acts such as The Firm, The Yardbirds,

Page and Plant Coverdale Page and of course led Zeppelin.
