Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Leadout calendar. On July twenty first, nineteen sixty nine, Led
Zeppelin and B. B. King played two shows at Woman
Skating Rink in New York Central Park. Somebody had a
sixteen millimeter movie camera filming the festival, hoping to see this.
I keep searching online. I don't know about you. Meanwhile,

(00:20):
the audio has landed, including the moment during led Zeppelin's
late show when they adapted the Woody Woodpecker song during
how Many More Times? On July twenty second, nineteen seventy seven,

(00:52):
Led Zeppelin had their final day off ahead of a
pair of shows at Oakland Coliseum in California. At some
point they probably discussed the setlist. Jimmy Page usually played
his guitar instrumental White Summer for a few minutes, switching
into Black Mountain Side was his signal to John Bonham
and John Paul Jones that they would all start Kashmir together.

(01:14):
But in Tempe Arizona, Jimmy had skipped his minutes long
solo and went straight for his queue. After the others
missed Jimmy's cue, he started Kashmir alone and the others
caught up with her. On July twenty third, nineteen seventy nine,

(01:40):
led Zeppelin rose again in Scandinavia. Twenty four months had
passed since Zeppelin's last shows at Oakland Coliseum, California, on
July twenty third and twenty fourth, and seventy seven, now
on those same dates since seventy nine. Zeppelin's live comeback
began with two shows at Falconer Theater and Copenhagen, Denmark.

(02:01):
Led Zeppelin unveiled a unique song transition from the song
Remains the Same into celebration Day. On July twenty fourth,

(02:27):
nineteen sixty nine, NASA's Apollo eleven cruz safely returned to
Earth and received a heroes welcome. Two of the three
astronauts had walked on the Moon in the movie Becoming
led Zeppelin. Robert Plant remembered the day those astronauts returned

(02:49):
because he said it was a pretty big day for
Zeppelin too. They went to a New York luncheon with
Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records. There they learned that sales
of Zeppelin's debut album had seeded one million dollars, much
to John Bonham's surprise, everybody in led Zeppelin received his
own Gold Record award, and official press release said bonham

(03:09):
Foot there would be one award for the four to
share equally three months at a time. On July twenty fifth,
nineteen sixty nine, the Midwest Rock Festival brought Led Zeppelin
to State Fair Park in West Alice, Wisconsin, outside of Milwaukee.
The festival brought together three former lead guitars of the
Yardbirds on separate nights. Eric Clapton played on Saturday night

(03:32):
in Blind Faith, Jeff Beck played on Sunday night in
the Jeff Beck Group, and they all followed Friday night's
headliner Led Zeppelin. Out of all the former Yardbirds guitars
at that time, only Jimmy Page was still starting off
shows with the same song the Yardbirds used to and
that was Trained Kept a Rolling. This is Carol Miller.
