Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
leadout calendar. On February twenty third, nineteen seventy, a sold
out crowd of nearly fourteen hundred in Helsinki, Finland saw
the first led Zeppelin show of the year outside of England.
Robert Plant thanked the crowd at Helsinki's Culture House about
fourteen times. He said either thank you or thank you

(00:20):
very much, and even learned how to say it in
the native Finnish language. Thank You was also a song
title in led Zeppelin set.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Led Zepplin were scheduled to return to Helsinki five years later,
but that was among tour dates canceled after Robert Plant
was injured in a car accident thirty years ago. On
February twenty fourth, nineteen ninety six, Jimmy Page and Robert
Plant played a show together in Sydney, Australia. This was
the first of two shows on consecutive nights at the

(01:04):
Sydney Entertainment Center. Page and plants Australian shows marked the
end of their world tour. They still had orchestras playing
on stage with them, but Jimmy Page was the only
guitarist anymore. Jimmy and Robert transitioned from large ensemble collaborations

(01:33):
into the scaled down four and five piece band performances
on the Next Page and Plant tour in nineteen ninety eight.
On February twenty fifth, nineteen seventy two, Led Zeppelin played
for longer than two hours at their show at the
Western Springs Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. Fans, which numbered
around twenty three thousand, three hundred, came from all over

(01:54):
both islands of New Zealand for Zeppelin's only show in
the nation.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Got to you for your faith and make it and
that's the biggest thing that's ever happened in New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
And all the traveling in bolved, I know all that
sort of thing. Rollingstone magazine reviewed Zeppelin's live appearance in
their April twenty seventh issue, satirizing Hunter S. Thompson's Gunzo journalism.
The article was headlined Fear and led Zeppelin in New Zealand.
Writer Ray Colbert concluded quote, I can't really see there

(02:26):
being much better live rock around. On February twenty six,
two thousand and eight, the film Led Zeppelin the song remains.
The same made it onto Blu ray for the first time.
Warner Home Video put out DVD's at the same time.
The Collector's edition was packaged with a T shirt inside
and various memorabilia reproductions. There was even a replica of

(02:47):
the invitation to the movie premiere in nineteen seventy six.
Bonus features on the discs included two songs from the
film with alternate footage not seen in the movie. There
were also two other songs not pre obviously included with
the movie. On February twenty seventh, nineteen sixty nine, the

(03:18):
Express and Star newspaper in Wolverhampton ran an article on
Robert Plant's latest band. Writer John Ogden had been detailing
Robert's career for the past three years. Among previous efforts,
Robert had played in the Band of Joy with drummer
John Bonham. When Robert and Bonzo returned from their first
US tour, the newspaper described Led Zeppelin as quote superstars.

(03:41):
John Ogden finally said Robert was quote fulfilled and satisfied.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Myself and also Bonzo. We'd come from the same place.
We were larger than live characters. We were like very
big fish and little ponds, and we needed to move on,
and we needed to be brought into perspective with other
great players Jimmy and John Paul The Krem de La Krem.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
This is Carol Miller. Thanks for Getting the let Out.
