Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, you're number one for new country kat one
O three points seven or is Steven Gina in the morning,
Steve Lundy gena Mountain And we're pleased to welcome a
gentleman we've been hearing a lot of lately records Nashville
recording artist George Burge. Hey, George, good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good morning guys.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
How are y'all doing? Fantastic? It's great to talk to you.
This is our first chance to have a chance to
chat with you. Well honored to be here.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
We got a lot of chat about it's been a
pretty good year so far.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well, yeah, it is a good year. Let's start with
your song. Now, that's huge. Cowboys songs love this song
and like the video too. Where did you shoot that video?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
We shot at a little dive bar here in Nashville.
It's a song about chasing my wife across dove bars
in Austin, Texas, and so we wanted to kind of
catch that dark, smoky flavor to it, and you know,
the whole song kind of feels like a fever dream.
You're not sure if she's real, you're not sure if
you have a chance, and then you know, if you
haven't seen the music video. There's a little payoff at
the end where she is real and she's waiting by

(00:58):
his truck at the end. So it was on to
just kind of make that tongue in cheek music video,
and I love the way it turned out and captured
the song.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
So who are the dancers and who's the dude in
the video?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
You know, as a as a married man, I try
not to have any love interests in my music videos anymore.
And so what we'll do is we'll have a couple,
you know, come come act out the romantic parts and
I'll just be the guy that's playing guitar and singing.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
That's a good idea. Yeah, you are also a wise artist.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I'm trying to stay married, y'all. I'm pretty happy where
I'm at, so we try not to do that.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Talking with George Birde here with Steven.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Gina, Well, I am a big fan of Christmas. I
love Christmas and I love your song have Yourself a
Merry Little Christmas, which I was just listening to on
our iHeartRadio app that what a great, what a great
rendition of that song.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Thank you so much. I love Christmas, I love the season,
I love what it stands for in getting to slow
down with a family a little bit. I never knew
if I'd be a Christmas song guy, just because you know,
I'm not a turtleneck and eggnog kind of guy. But
I wanted to put my own spin on a classic
and have yourself a merry little Christmas. Is such a
nostalgic song, and so I kind of made up my own.
It's a little darker and a little smoke here, but

(02:08):
I think it's still true to the essence of the song.
And I try to say it's a it's a country song.
You could maybe sip a glass of whiskey by the
fire too, you go.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I love George Burge with us. Are you going to
have time to step down from touring for a little
bit to enjoy some Christmas and know you've been out
with Dylan Scott.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, we are.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
We're gonna We're gonna go back to Texas here end
of the year and you know, spend a week back
home just with everybody that's worked so hard to help
me get here and go see some family, let the
kids run around the ranch a little bit, and just
kick our feedback and enjoy what's been the craziest year
of my life. Maybe soak it in a little bit.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Well, congratulations on a couple of other things. About one
hundred and twenty million streams so far of your music.
Can you imagine one hundred and twenty million times somebody
who's sat down and listened to one of your songs.
That's pretty hatty stuff. How are you handling that?

Speaker 2 (02:59):
I can't can't that high? That just becomes uh, it
becomes a uh, you know, crazy number. But it's it's awesome.
I remember celebrating when I got my first ten thousand streams,
So to have a number like that is just it's
beyond my wildest dreams. And it's grown every day. You know.
It's people discovering the music and sharing it and making

(03:21):
it their own. It's all I could have asked for.
It's the reason that I fell in love with music
in the first place, is connecting with people over songs
that mean something. And I think country music especially allows
you to take some memories or take some life experience
and kind of plug it into a song and make
it your own movie. And the fact that I'm able
to share that with other people, it's nothing better.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
George Burfer with us. Before we let you go, I
want to congratulate you on another thing. You're publishing deal
with Big Machine Music Group. Tell us what that means
to a songwriter.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
It's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
When I moved to town, that was I signed my
first record deal with Big Machine and it didn't work out,
And nobody's fault. It's just you know, more often than not,
new artists record deal and you never hear from him again.
And I was a classic case of that. I wasn't
really ready as a songwriter or as an artist, and
so I've paid some dues in town and figured things out.
And now to circle back and sign a songwriting deal

(04:12):
with Big Machine and have them back in my corner,
it's pretty special. And to be having success with it now,
we're having a lot of fun together. Full circle moment
for me.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Well, George, it's certainly been a pleasure talking with you,
and give our best to your family. Hope you have
a wonderful holiday. Congratulations on Cowboys songs and just everything
that's going on with you right now. Do you mind
if we play Cowboys songs right now?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Nothing would make me happier. Thank you so much. Merry Christmas,
Merry Christmas, Steve Gina, y'all have a merry Christmas too.
Thank you for taking some time with me. This doesn't
happen without you guys playing the music, so I appreciate
y'all moren you know.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
It's our pleasure. Take care, George, all right, bye guys,
