Jason and Luke Bryan both grew up in Georgia, they both love rooting for their beloved Bulldogs and hunting so I played a little game of "Jason Aldean or Luke Bryan" and ran a list a questions by Jason.
Who do you think he said is more likely to crack a beer earlier in the morning?, Who has more unusual requests on their tour rider for the dressing room? Who's a better hunter?" and more.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Michael j Podcast. Hope you'll hit
the follow button so you can keep in touch with me.
We're always hearing from country stars, and honestly, I never
know who I'm going to get a chance to speak
with next. I got a note from Tye here at
the station. She said, Hey, Michael Jason wanted to check in,
and here he is on the phone, Jason Aldean. I

(00:22):
was looking at your tour schedule. You've been all over
the place, including Canada. I've never been to a concert
outside of the US. I just wonder are they different?
Is there anything unusual or different about concerts and other countries,
you know, specifically Canada.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Man Canadian CUTR music fans are amazing. They've always been
really supported us, really well up there. We've always been
able to go up there and do our shows, and
really when we do that, it's no different than it
is in the US. You know, it's felt like, you know,
we'll have a sold out show here and then go
there and it's half full. I mean, right, it's the

(00:59):
same there, and you know, like I said, it's we
We spent a lot of time up there in the
early years just kind of playing Canada, just kind of
going back and forth across the country, playing some clubs,
playing opening for Rascal Flats, doing We've done headlining stuff
of our own now there over the years, and so
it's just we've always made it the points to go

(01:19):
up there and uh and and play for them and
and they've always supported it. So uh as long as
they do that, we'll we'll keep going. And it's it's
been great.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, August thirtieth, you're playing at Jiffy loub Live and
we've seen you there a number of times. For someone
who has never seen the Jason al Dean tour, how
do you describe your show, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
I just still like describe it as a rock and
roll show, the country music singer. I mean, it's you know,
it's you know, if you if you're a fan of
the music music that I put out over the years,
then obviously you know, I think you're going to like
the show. You know, we get out and you know,
I knew early on that it was a difference in

(02:04):
being a great singer and being a great entertainer. It's
two different things. And so you know, I'm not a
I don't have a Chris Stapleton type voice or one
of those guys. So it's like, man, you know, I
got to find other ways to keep people's attention. And
for me, you know, I just knew going to shows
as a kid, I'm like, man, I didn't really sometimes

(02:26):
care how much it sounded. I wanted to if visually
it looked cool and they were keeping my attention on stage,
I just thought that was really was really cool. And
so that was just something in the clubs early on,
I learned to, you know, do whatever it took to
kind of get people's attention and or at least try to.
And and so you know, for me, the entertaining part

(02:48):
of it is a huge, huge thing. And whenever somebody
comes out to a show, obviously I wanted to sound great.
I want to, you know, vocally sound great and those
kinds of things. But I visually I wanted to be
cool to and I want people to never really know
what's gonna happen, and and there'd be a lot of
energy on stage and a lot of energy in the crowd,
and and that's what makes a fun show, and that's

(03:08):
what you try to do.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
So the other night I caught you on TV in Nashville.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
You were talking about your buddy Luke Bryan and I
know you guys are very tight. You were involved with
a tribute to him. What song did you cover? I?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Uh, I did one of Luke's old songs when when
the Tailgates and Tanlines album came out, he came over
to my house and played it for me, and before
it came out, actually, and so there was some songs
on there. I just saw, man, these this is gonna
be this is gonna be good for your career, like
there was. There was some really big songs he had
on that album, and uh someone else calling you Baby

(03:46):
was one of those that I always loved. And so
you know, I always like to go back and play
songs off of that record, and uh so baby is
the one that I ended up playing for him the
other night, which was really cool and one of my
favorite songs. One of the first things I remember hearing
from him going, man, this is gonna this is gonna
change your career a little bit because it was just

(04:06):
a really good record, had some really cool songs on it.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, speaking of Luke, let me play you or Luke.
I'll ask questions and you tell me whether you think
the answer.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Is you or Luke. All right, okay, all right, here
we go. Who is a bigger Georgia Bulldogs fan? You
or Luke?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I think it's I think it's equal.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
My one of my best friend's daughter goes there. You
love that school, don't you. I mean growing up closely, I.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Mean if when you're born in Georgia, man, that's just
that's that's just part of the part of the history there.
So Luke's a huge Georgia fan. I'm a huge Georgia fan,
so that that's hard to pick. I would I would
have to say that's equal.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Okay. Who has fallen on stage more? You or Luke.
He's fallen a lot. I've seen him slip. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I feel like he's on TMZ every other week doing
something like that.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Like, and then don't blame it on a wet spot.
I don't know what's causing that, but you're right about that.
Have you ever fallen on stage because I've never seen that, Jason,
I've not not to.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
The extent where it's been you know, yeah, been embarrassing,
very Yeah, like it's not where it tuned up on TMZ.
I might have stumbled or something like that or tripped
or something like that, but never like went off stage
that I remember.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
All Right, who has more unusual requests for your dressing
room on tour? You know, like you hear about rock
bands who have riders on their tour where they have
to have certain things, you know, Eminem's I don't.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Know, right, Yeah, I mean I would. I'm gonna say
Luke just. I don't really know what's what's on Luke's rider,
but I'm gonna say Luke just because I know what
I what I get, and it's not that it's not
that uncommon, so I feel like mine's pretty common. So
I'm gonna just say Luke by default.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Speaking of yours, I mean, like, what do you ask for?
What do you really need to have backstage?

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Well, used to it was like whiskey and golf balls.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Whiskey and golf balls.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Okay, Man, I got tired. I was playing golf a bunch.
I got tired of buying golf balls. I had that golf.
But now he's stepped it up. We have a little
bit more in there now. But that was in the
early days.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
All right. You're both in your forties.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
But who would you say is most likely to still
be playing shows at ninety one, like Willie Nelson, You
or Luke.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Probably me? If I'm still around at ninety one, I
would say me because I don't know. I mean, this
is all I've done since I was fourteen or fifteen
years old. It's like, if I'm not doing this, I
don't really know what else I would do. So I
just see this because it's something that you know, I'll
probably do as long as I can physically do it,

(07:07):
And you know, I don't know what else i'd do,
So i'd have to say me on that one.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I love that. Who is a better hunter? You or
Luke Bryan?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Oh? Oh, that's that's tough. I'm gonna just I'm gonna
just say I'm gonna say me. Well, I mean, you
know Luke that that's another one. That's pretty it's pretty
even that I can't lie. It's pretty even. Luke's a
great hunter.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Too, all right.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Who busts to open a beer earliest in the morning?

Speaker 3 (07:41):
You are Luke Bryan?

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Oh that'd be Luke probably.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Uh huh uh Yeah, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
I'm not a morning I'm not a morning drinker.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Okay. Uh Who has songs that are harder to sing,
you or Luke Bryan.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I would say probably mom, just key wise, sometimes we're
a little higher to sing, So I would I would
probably go with my stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
All right.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
And one more Who is more likely to get the
next tattoo?

Speaker 3 (08:18):
You or Luke Bryan?

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Probably me? Really, Luke's got a few too. Luke's got
a few two, so.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Would.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I think Luke gets like baby tattoos, though he gets
like a little small. When I do it, I do
it big. He's in there for five minutes. I'm in
there for like five hours, right, different.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Well, then let me really ask you, because they're catching on.
You know, you got post, you got jelly? Would you
ever consider anything on the neck or face?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Neck? Maybe? Face? Never. I don't want to mess this
thing up, man, come on, there you go.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I mean, right, why mess what God perfected?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Right? Some guys can pull it off. I think I'm
one of them.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, that's I mean, that does take a lot of
courage to put that ink on your face.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
So I hear you.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
So listen Whiskey Drink the new single that's sounding great
on the radio.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
I love playing it.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yeah, man, that's the newest one, really cool song. One
of my favorite songs off this record and one that
I wanted to get to. I wanted this song to
be a single for sure off the album, and it
was just kind of it was time for it, you know.
And and so we put this thing out and kind
of been getting a lot of people asking for this
one too, so put it out. And this was one

(09:35):
of those songs even after the album came out, before
it was a single or anything, it was just kind
of getting a lot of traction on social media and
those kind of things, which always makes you look at
it and go, oh, that's different. That song's getting right,
it's getting some attention without us even doing anything with it.
And but before that, we knew that it was going
to be, you know, one of the singles off the album.
And so yeah, it's cool to put those songs out

(09:59):
and and kind of watching take off and do what
they're gonna do and either either become a big hit
or become an okay hit, or not become a hit
at all, you know. But that's one that we're really
excited about. Man, so appreciate you guys spinning it and
I can't wait to play it for you. I'll get there.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Jason al Dean. It's been a pleasure hanging out with
you this morning.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Always good to hear from you, and you know I've
been a fan from day one.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Thanks for having me man, I appreciate it.
