Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Battleground Podcast. You'll play for all things
pro wrestling.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
And exclusive interviews with some of your favorite wrestlers around
Stop fit what hope you guys?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Welcome back into iHeartRadio's official wrestling podcast, The Battleground Podcast,
And I gotta tell you man, today is a fun show.
Why because our guest is a guy that defies gravity
so often that NASA I think is looking into I mean,
a guy that is more bouncy than a bounce house
at a kid's birthday party. Give it up for my man,
the young og Javan Evans choice.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir. Appreciate y'all having me.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
How y'all feeling man, We are feeling good. We are
super excited to have you on. So let's just go
ahead and dive right into this. You came into WWE
with a lot of hype as part of this this
new generation right that it doesn't wrestle like.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
The old generation.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I ever feel pressure knowing fans already see you as
the future. And how do you balance that with still
being in your early chapters?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Of course, Like I always feel like it's a it's
a chip on my shoulder, you know what? I mean,
because I feel like I always have something to prove,
you know, especially with especially knowing that there's a lot
of people who, like you said, like I got brought
in and and I bring like this new flavor to wrestling,
you know what I mean, young and excited.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
All this, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
So I feel like I feel like I have to
hold my end of the bargain up, you know. But yeah,
that's always in my head. And honestly, like balancing wise,
I don't really have trouble with it, you know. I
just go out there and have fun, you know. So
it's like it's always on top of my dome.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
But it doesn't really bother me. It doesn't really affect me,
you know, right.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
You know, there's been a big conversation lately about wrestlers,
you know, finding themselves too early versus being allowed to
grow on TV and stuff like that. Do you feel
like the WW is giving you space to evolve naturally
or are you kind of consciously trying to fast track
your legacy?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Oh? No, I feel like they're letting me.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
They're letting me be me, and I feel like they're
letting me How can I say? Uh, they also understand
that I'm learning who I am as well, so they're
giving me that time to like develop and become a
better wrestler, become a better person all that, right, Right

(02:44):
for sure.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Now, I do want to go back for a little
bit because you know, there was a lot of focus
on John Cena's final match, which you got to be
a part of that show, for sure, a lot of
real buzz around that, not only just that it was
John Cena's last match, but also so the real buzz
around your tag match as well on social media it
was going crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
You got in the ring with aj Styles.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Walk us through what was going on in your head
when you got into the ring, in the atmosphere that
you guys potentially you know, stole the show that night
in fans perspectives.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Uh, honestly, I just remember walking out and like, of course,
like before this show, like you look at the arena,
you know, just you know.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Look around whatever.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
But like I remember hearing my music walking out, and
it was a crazy The setup was crazy, like the interest,
the way it was insane. And I walked out, I
just saw the crowd and like seeing everybody in a
good mood, like a good energy, you know, and I
was like, dang, like I think it was like twenty
thousand plus people maybe or I might I might be

(03:52):
tripping or close to twenty thousands.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
It's one of those.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
But I just remember like feeling energy and seeing everybody
having a great time, and I was like, yo're we're
about to go.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Crazy, you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (04:06):
And then of course being in the ring with Leon
and then seeing aj Styles and and Jian Lee walk
down like it was in the same feeling, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
But when that bell wrong, we had to do what
we had to do.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I mean, man, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we had
to we had Yeah, you know, for short as your
career has been so far, you've had a lot of
big moments already, but hearing John Cena say he is
for real, I mean, that's just got to hit differently
for you. We heard that coming from someone like the
legend that is John Cena. What did that mean to

(04:43):
you personally and professionally?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Oh, it meant so much to me.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
I grew up watching Sina, which is probably a crazy thing,
you know, to say, or a crazy thing for y'all
to hear, Like I grew up watching Sina, and yeah,
it it was.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
It's crazy to know now.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
That, like, and I'll say this almost every interview, but
like the legends that I've had connections with, now I
can hit them up.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Whenever, you know.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
And now that I just made a connection with Sina,
we've been texting and he gives me advice about wrestling,
about life all that. So it means so much, means
so much, from being a fan to now being a
colleague and learning under history.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It's insane. Yeah, your ten year old self's got to
be freaking out. Oh what it's Insanee?

Speaker 3 (05:38):
You want to talk about insane? I want to go
back to something that happened over the weekend. You were
in that triple threat with Laredo Kid and Jack Cartwell.
I mean, you had the crowd losing your mind, potential
Match of the Year candidate right there. What did that
atmosphere do to you emotionally?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Once the match was over?

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Oh, I feel like, honestly, I was just grateful, you know,
I was blessed.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
I feel like I always go around.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Because you never know when your last time is gonna happen,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
So I never know when my last time or I'm sorry,
I never know when I will be going back.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
To Mexico, honestly, so I feel like just having that match,
crowd going crazy and just being there and like dang,
like they're having a great time. They enjoy the match,
you know. And in Mexico they don't play about wrestling
like they they love wrestling. They will let you know
if your match is horrible, you know, or they will

(06:42):
let you know if your match is great, and they
just love the match. And I just felt blessed in Uh.
I don't know if this is a word, but appreciative
is that the correct word.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think something like that. I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, and it was a big it was a big
stage for you. But also Jack, I mean he's a
w WID prospect and he showed involved. I mean like that,
that's just two huge platforms for you guys too, you know.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
So you know, kind of going back to you're talking
about your younger self and stuff like that. If you
could go back and talk to the version of yourself maybe
you know, you're a little bit older than a kid,
but before WW maybe seventeen eighteen, something like that. You know,
the long drives, the small crowds, the uncertainty of the future.
What's the one thing you tell him that would probably
shock him the most about where you are right now?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Dang, maybe, Oh honestly, honestly, probably wwe is okay with
you being yourself.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I think that was like my especially on the indies.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Because on the indies, but I was just me, Like
I wasn't playing no character, you know, I was just
I was Von you know, I was Jay And I
know that was like a worry in the back of
my head before I got signed that, you know, I
didn't want them to try to change where I was,
you know. But I remember getting there and I was

(08:10):
talking to HBK and he was like, hey, like, do
you be yourself? Don't let nothing change, all right?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Cool? And that's why I did. And you see how
that's working out right now.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
So like yeah, yeah, yeah, so that's probably something I
would tell myself. Also, I would just tell myself to
be patient, you know.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
I was.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I was, of course, you know, young, but I wanted
to get signed at eighteen.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
You know. And once I didn't get sign at eighteen,
I was like, damn.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I was just rushing, rushing, like just trying to take
every opportunity I could and try and get in front
of all the odds that I can, but I will
also Yeah, just took myself, Bro, calm down. Everything's gonna
work out, you got it?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yeah, absolutely for sure.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Of course, you know WW is gonna be hitting the
road hard and six and NXC is gonna be coming
to Nashville, which of course you can grab those tickets
now WWE dot com. They're gonna be up the Pinnacle,
which is a great building for wrestling, for sure. But
I do want to talk about this because I feel
like every time I turn the TV on, you're there,
whether it's with Raw, SmackDown, NXT, Triple A. How does

(09:20):
it feel knowing that WWE believes in you enough to
send you across all of these shows?

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Right? It's crazy, It's insane, Honestly, It's just a blessed opportunity,
you know. And I feel like they they just they
trust me, you know, and I'm glad that they do,
especially you know MEVII in twenty one, Like that's like
that's a lot of responsibility. But they trust me enough

(09:48):
to give me all these opportunities, and they know that
I can go crazy with these opportunities.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
And that's what I've been trying to do. Yeah. Absolutely,
And it's.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Just a quick follow up on that because you know
a lot of people online, they all like to speculate
where Javon Evans is because you're popping up on a raw,
you're popping up on SmackDown. So we got to ask
from your yourself, are you officially part of that main
roster now or are you still wrapping the NXT brand.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
So me personally, I don't know. I'm just I'm just
wherever they need me to be, you know what I mean.
But look, wherever they need me, whenever it happens.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I'm gonna be ready.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
You know, if they need me on SmackDown, they all
they need me to stay in XT, didn't need me
to going Triple A.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Hey, wherever you need me, young go gee, would do
what you do.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
And you know, I could see you being like the
first superstar to not have a home base really like
down star, You're not at all. You could show up
on TNA. I mean, like, I.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Just I just having fun.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, you know this Champs talking smack Let's send Javan over.
You know, like hey for real, man full angle, you know,
just your you go where you need to be.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
You know.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
So we've already had a couple of dream matches, the
most obvious one being you and Leon's later. What are
some other kind of future dream matches you're looking forward to?

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Uh, the little kid in me for sure, little Javon.
Of course I gotta have one with like like uh
me and se him punk almost ah yeah, yeah, me
and see him punk.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
That's like the little Javon asking you know. Uh.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
One main thing for me especially is like uh me
and Raymonds Stereo.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I feel like it we we would just go crazy
and he could still go Yeah. Man, I might have
to you know, I might have to get him in
his w c W bag like you know, you.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Know, all manifested. We'll put it out there in the
universe Raymond Stereo, you know when maybe maybe it's one
of those things when Raymonsterio does his you know, retirement
run like John Cena. Did you know we get Javon
Evans and Raymonds. Let's let's just say ray Masterio Javon
Evans at WrestleMania.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Hey, let's throw it in there. Yeah, holding it.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Out of the universe, because that will be match of
the year for sure, between you and Raymond Stereo, which
is great stuff. Javon Evans is joining us here on
the show today. Now, we always like to have a
little fun at the end of the show before we
get to one last serious question. You know, if we
were to look at Javon Evans' playlist right now, his
music playlist, and we just kind of you know, scroll
through there, and we stumble across the song they we're like, ah,

(12:30):
we we didn't realize that Javon Evans had this song
on this playlist.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
What's that song that's gonna surprise us if we see
it there?

Speaker 4 (12:38):
All right, this is od. This is crazy. I know,
I know y'all probably night y'all not even expecting this, Okay,
But there's a song and it's like it's like a uh,
how can I describe it? Like I don't even know
the name of the song, but it's a it's a

(13:00):
Beethoven song. It's like, it's like, uh, it's crazy. Like
so it's a rapper name meat Meal and he used
it as a sample. Mm hmmm, Uh, I can't remember.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Who else is it. I think like to Lazers in
this song too, but he used it as a sample.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
I was like, dangn Like that's a crazy, like that's
a crazy little sample, like it's very simple.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Yeah. So I looked it up and I heard it
and I was like, all right, all right, this is
this is it. So I've been cleaning my house. I'm
about to move and stuff. I've been cleaning my house
and I just turned it on and I was like, this.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Is smoothie, you know what I mean, Like, this is
this is chill all right with some Beethoven.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Maybe maybe you know, when you have that wrestle medium moment,
maybe that Beethoven song can bring.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
You oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah it Maybe you know,
also have a little PTSD when.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
I uh, when I want to get his gun through,
you know, I mean.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah, maybe not then maybe we don't put it.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Maybe yeah yeah maybe yeah maybe that would you know what,
We'll just put that in the background.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Maybe we'll just have Meek Mill do that song that
he said to bring out a wrestling and that's.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
What we'll do.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
We won't we won't have to worry about the beethoven sons.
Javan Evans is our guest on the show right now,
last question for you, and this is what we're gonna
get a little serious with you. When it's all said
and done. When you look past everything that you've done
the career accolade and you hang up the boots as
fans look back at your career, what is that one
sentence that you hope that they say about Javon Evans

(14:36):
that goes way beyond wins and championships.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Javon Evans was the greatest to ever do it.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
That's that's what That's my main goal no matter what, uh.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
And that I will always like that's why I'm working towards.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
You know, championships is cool, the WrestleMania moments all that, like,
that's cool, but like, by the end of it, I
want everybody. I want even the non wrestling fans to
be like, I haven't watched wrestling in a minute. I
don't know what wrestling is, but I heard Javon Evans,
I saw him wrestle and I just know for a
fact that he's the greatest to ever do it in

(15:16):
the wrestling game.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Nice man, that's couldn't have said it better Jravan Evans,
our guests of the show, man, it's an honor or
privilege to have you on the show. And you know,
when NXT year rolls through Nashville, we got to get
you in the studio and hang out with us.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Man, oh for sure. Hey, let me know, let me know.
