Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is an honor for us to talk to one
of the men who takes being a citizen of the
DMV very seriously. We're Toby and Chilly in the morning
at ninety seven point one Wash FM. The head of
Monumental Sports and Entertainment at ted Leonsis is here. Good morning, sir,
how are you.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Good morning, and thank you for the nice introduction.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Well you've earned it, sir, if you really have fostered
this idea that we are better together in the nation's capital,
especially when it comes to our supporting events. And that's
why I'm not surprised to see your legacy at work.
See what we did there with Legacy on ice.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yes, we really think this is an amazing event that
you guys are a part of. Tell us a little
bit about how it came about and also what people
can expect.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Well, thank you for supporting it. I mean, after the
tragic accident over the Potomac River, the Entertainment Gang and
US figure Skating came to Monumental Sports and the Washington
Capitals and then we brought in the Community Foundation and
DC Fire and ems and said, let's figure out a
(01:03):
way that we can bring the community together allow people
to grieve, but then support the first responders, the skating community,
and of course the families that were affected. So we'll
be having this benefit skating event. Some of the world's
best national figure skating teams and dance and pairs and
(01:25):
past champions and Olympic skaters will all be coming a
Capital One Arena, and all of the money that we
raise through sponsorship, ticket sales, merchandising will be going to
the first responders, to the families that have suffered this
great tragedy, and I'm hoping our community turns out in
a big way.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
This is taking place March second, from three to five
in the afternoon, like you said, at Capital one Arena,
and tickets went on sale this week.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
We have some good momentum and I just know our
community is so in touch with what happened. It's just
mind boggling what the community went through. And this will
be a way to, you know, bring everyone together to
give that. Hopefully we can raise a lot of money
for all of these great causes.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
It's not just a small amount of comfort, it's hope.
And thank you for bringing the hope when it comes
to what you're doing to help us heal after this.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Well, you're terrific and I really appreciate it. No, it's
just a part of being part of this beautiful and
thriving community, Washington, d C. And you know, to those
who much has given, much is expected. And you know
our commitment is to help make Washington, d C. The greatest,
most magnanimous community on the planet. And you're a big
part of it too, So can't appreciate your support more.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
