this radio show and you want toextol the virtues of listening to it,
fine with me. We call thosehealth strokers always looking for those. All
right, ladies and gentlemen, webegin this hour in a discussion of anger.
(02:46):
Now, everybody gets angry. Imean, anger happens. Stuff happens.
And some people, however, havemajor anger issues and could stay and
to be reminded that the emotion angeris normal, but when it gets out
of control, it can harm you. It can, and we don't want
(03:10):
that. So I would like topropose to you that you do something about
it in advance knowing it. Andyou know, some people are chill all
the time. They just never losetheir cool, maybe for whatever reason.
Maybe it's something that they've learned theanger response. Maybe there's a physical problem
(03:35):
driving their anger. There's so manyreasons why anger can occur and can be
triggered, road rage, all ofthis, and it seems like these days
more and more people are angry aboutstuff. Right, But getting angry may
cause you or someone that you loveand care about to have a heart attack
(03:58):
or stroke. That's true. TrueThe next time a random cold sales caller
hits you on the phone, ormaybe you're in the middle of a traffic
jam, or an argument or disagreementcauses you to lose your cool. Old
doctor Bob is gonna encourage you totake a couple of deep breaths home and
(04:23):
try to relax, because it couldvery well save your life. And I
know that anger has to be expressedfrom time to time, there's just no
getting around it, depending on thesituation. But constant anger and rage is
not good for the human body. Now, you may know somebody who in
your mind is angry way too often, and maybe you can share this with
(04:46):
them, or at least to havethem listen to this if they're not able
to listen to it right now bygetting into the podcast library as of this
coming Wednesday and hearing our number twonow for anger really can kill us.
US scientists have warned this week, researchers have found brief moments of anger can
(05:09):
impair the function of blood vessels, potentially raising the risk of heart attack or
stroke for up to forty minutes. In other words, let's say you get
into a road rage. Somebody cutsyou off, and you guys are flipping
the birds at each other and threateningeach other with fists, and you want
to pull over the side of theroad, but somebody finally draws drives away
(05:29):
good. But for forty minutes afterthat initial burst or response of anger.
If you are susceptible, that's thepocket you don't want to be in forty
minutes, it could cause a heartattack or a stroke if you're prone to
that. And we never know whois because how many people have you known
that just suddenly boom, they're dead, no symptoms prior to that. In
(05:54):
fact, about twenty five percent ofpeople who die from heart attacks haven't had
a single symptom to having a heartattack and dying. Twenty five percent's huge.
A doctor Shimba, author study authorof this anger article and professor of
medicine at Columbia University said, andI quote, we saw that evoking an
(06:17):
angered state led to blood vessel dysfunction, though we don't yet understand what may
cause these changes close quote. Well, researchers describe this effect as an impairment
in blood vessel dilation. In otherwords, interrupted supply of blood can,
in theory, lead to a heartattack or stroke. And so when the
(06:42):
researchers are looking at this in thisstudy, they had two hundred and eighty
volunteers age twenty six on average.Keep that in mind, twenty six on
average. A blood pressure reading wastaken before each was randomly assigned one of
four eight minute tasks. One taskasked them to remember a personal memory that
(07:06):
made them angry. Task two andthree got volunteers to recall a moment of
anxiety or read a series of depressingsentences designed to evoke a feeling of sadness,
and a fourth emotional neutral task requiredparticipants to count repeatedly to one hundred.
(07:28):
Blood pressure and vessel dilation measurements weretaken during the experiments after three minutes,
and again it's forty minutes, seventyminutes, and one hundred minutes later.
Blood samples were also taken to assesstheir cellular health. These volunteers were
involved in this experiment, and theresearchers found tasks that recalled past events causing
(07:50):
anger to lead to impairment in theirblood vessel dilation from zero to forty minutes
after the task, and the impairmentwas no longer present after about forty minutes
mark, So that forty minutes iskey when you're is susceptible or that person
who is flipping out angry susceptible toa heart attack and a stroke or a
(08:15):
stroke and or a stroke. Therewere no significant changes to participants blood vessel
lining at any points after experiencing theanxiety or sadness emotional tasks. So basically,
anger led to the impairment of theblood vessel dilation, but emotions of
sadness and anxiety did not cause thesame vessel problem. So I guess when
(08:39):
you're having some type of challenge inlife to not have a heart attack and
a stroke, it would be betterto be sad and maybe a little anxious
rather than angry. Now, theywere writing in the Journal of the American
Heart Association. Researchers noted it wasunclear whether the results would apply to older
adults, but I think it obviouslymaybe even more susceptible. But they weren't
(09:03):
studying older adults with other health conditions, who most likely are taking medications.
Well, look, we will haveto wait, I guess, to see
if another study on older adults showssimilar results. With older adults that are
not an average of twenty six yearsof age and getting angry and having a
(09:24):
risk of heart attack and stroke. Can I predict the blood vessel impairment will
be even greater in older adults sincenitric oxide production, which is what causes
these dilations goes down as we age. Plus, there are many medical medical
drugs that are capable of interfering withnitric oxide production, which is key to
(09:48):
keeping our blood vessels open and notclosing out. And since older people take
more drugs than younger people generally,it may prove to be worse. So
this information, by the way,was generated out of Baylor College. We'll
finish up with it when we comeback from this break. Doctor Glenn Levine,
(10:13):
the professor at Baylor College in Houston, will have his comments on what
he had to say about how gettingangry may cause people to have a higher
risk of heart attack and stroke, something you don't want to get involved with.
(10:33):
They are killers, major killers ofman. And if it's as simple
as controlling anger and taking a deepbreath or two when you're stressed or feeling
stressed and you want to flip out, it would be a good thing.
We'll get to that right after thisbreak. Stay with us. You are
tuned into the doctor Bob martinshell. Are you tired of crazy blood sugar and

Get started. Start start it starts, start its, start it, start
it, sat it all right,Welcome and welcome back to this hour of
the Doctor Bob Martson Show. Thankyou so very much for tuning into the
program. But if you like whatyou hear on this radio show, and
(14:24):
you believe other people could benefit bytuning into the program, well, by
all means, let them know aboutthe station you're listening to. And the
best way to refer people into thisshow is to jot down the call letters
of the station you're currently listening toright now, the frequency on the dial,
(14:46):
uh, whether it's an m rFM station, the time of the
day, and then just tell asmany people that you know, especially those
people who have anger issues, becausethat's what we're talking about. And we'll
get back to that conversation momentarily. But that's how you refer people into the
program, is tell them about thestation that you're listening to. We so
(15:07):
appreciate that, all right, youknow, if you're just tuning in the
first segment of the program, Istarted out talking about anger, and let's
face it, everybody gets angry atcertain times of our lives. I mean,
there are a lot of reasons toget angry, but anger can also
generate a serious health problem that youdon't need or want, and two of
(15:33):
those happen to include heart attack andstroke, main killers of mankind. And
there's a lot of reasons for anger. I get that, and people are
going to get angry and they're goingto lose their cool from time to time.
But there are some people among usand in our society, and perhaps
there are people that you care aboutgreatly that get angry way too long often
(16:00):
and way too severely, and theydon't get over it, and we don't
want those people to have catastrophic healthrelated problems like dying or having an art
attack or a stroke. And soI'm trying to get this information out how
important it is to try to controlyour anger, particularly in the forty minutes
(16:21):
that follows whatever the event was thatset you off. And there are many
of them in our lives that canset us off, and we won't get
into those. That's a whole showin and of itself. But I was
talking about this information out of BaylorCollege of Medicine and also the article that
(16:42):
was in the Journal of the AmericanHeart Association about how getting angry may cause
these heart and stroke issues. Adoctor Glenn Levine, a professor of medicine
at Baylor College of Medicine in Houstonwho wasn't involved in the research, directly
said, and I quote, thisstudy adds nicely to the growing evidence base
(17:07):
that mental well being can affect cardiovascularhealth and that intense acute emotional states such
as anger or stress, may leadto cardiovascular events. That's what the good
doctor said from Baylor, and itis true, and for some reason,
(17:30):
some people are more tolerant to this. I mean there are people who it
seems like, you know, they'relike angry constantly, but for whatever reason,
they're able to their bodies, areable to cope with it, able
to compensate for it, and seeminglydon't have any problem, even though you
can't know for sure. And thereare other people, however, who may
(17:53):
have underlying health related problems associated withanger don't know it. There are maybe
they're more prone to heart problems likeheart attacks, or maybe they're more prone
to issues of related to the brainstroke not aware of it because if their
(18:15):
blood pressure is high, we callthat the silent killer, high blood pressure,
and they're not aware of it,and suddenly an event transpires in their
life and they get very very mad, very angry and start losing their cool.
That could be the genesis or thetriggering event that causes them to have
(18:36):
a very dire exposure to heart attackand stroke. So I guess that the
takeaway of all of this is yougot to chill. You got to find
a way to control that. Everybodyneeds to do that now. Earlier this
year, alarming data revealed that prematuredeaths from cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks
(18:59):
and strokes have hit their highest levelin more than a decade. Cases of
heart attack, heart failure, andstrokes among the under seventy five year old
people had tumbled since the nineteen sixtiesthanks to well, mostly reduced smoking rates.
(19:19):
We can think the fact that wefinally threw down years decades ago on
people smoking cigarettes and discouraging them, even though the government was enjoying all the
revenue rolling in based on the taxeson tobacco, and that's why it was
(19:41):
so common since the nineteen sixties. And now we see because the Surgeon General
said, look, we got toreally come after this smoking problem because it
is causing so many health issues. And we've done a great job, in
my opinion, and that is theprimary reason why during a certain period of
(20:03):
time that the rate of heart failureand strokes has come down. We've reduced
smoking rates and hopefully they'll come downeven further. But now rising obesity rates.
What is it? The other dayI read about two thirds of our
entire adult society is either overweight tosome extent, could be five pounds,
(20:26):
could be fifteen fifty or over onehundred to obesity. Two thirds of their
society obese, and it's many associatedhealth problems like yes, high blood pressure
associated with being overweight, and OBEsdiabetes. These are thought to be major
(20:48):
contributing factors to someone's risk of havinga heart attack or a stroke, but
you can suppport your body. Ingeneral, I'm a big fan of recommending
people consume diets that are not thestandard American diet, this sad diet,
(21:14):
which is a pretty bad diet, and try to adopt more of a Mediterranean
style diet which has better fats init, more fruits and vegetables, whole
grains, nut seeds, fish, cold water fish high in omegafats. And
also encourage people to understand that thosesources of vegetables that we're all encouraged to
(21:41):
eat seven to nine servings of freshvegetables and whenever possible organic so that you're
not being exposed to residue of pesticides. You can find in this day and
age more and more organic fruits andvegetables they exist out there. Who would
(22:03):
want to have residue of raid andother pesticides and insecticides on your food if
you can avoid it. Personally,I do try to find organic whenever and
wherever possible, and now these daysit is available, so find that and
then for heart health sake, goand try to consume the dark green,
(22:27):
leafy vegetables we're talking about, kale, arugula, Swiss charred spinach. These
are vegetables that are sources of nitricoxide. In consuming them, your body
has a greater ability to produce nitricoxide. It's a gas we make within
(22:51):
within our bodies from nitrates and nitritesfound naturally in our foods. They are
great sources of this and other sourcesinclude beets and cabbage and cauliflower and carrots
and broccoli as well. And youcan even get a lozenge today to increase
your nitric oxide level. There's alozenge you could suck on. It's called
(23:15):
N one oh one N one one, and that is also an option if
you don't like to eat fresh vegetables. Some people don't eat any vegetables at
all. I can't even imagine that, but I guess it's true. And
there are plenty of books out therewhere you can purchase them based on the
(23:38):
Mediterranean style diet that along with exercise, trying to lower stress, taking supplements,
all of that is a way toreduce your risk of heart attacks and
strokes. Stay tuned, We're comingright back. I'm doctor Bob Martin.

calling into the show and having aquestion answered on the air, I want

to as many calls as we can, making it fair for everybody trying to
get in to have their health questionanswered on the air. Here's the number
(28:34):
jotted down for safekeeping, and callit twenty four seven three sixty five.
That's fine. Eight hundred six zerosix eight eight two two. Eight hundred

(28:55):

out to the word doctor. Thereyou can also leave an email a question
over there on the site. There'sa place to do that. Just go
to the top buttons and look forcontact doctor Bob and you can write an
email up there and I will seethat and if I read it on the
(29:19):
air, excellent. I hope todo that all right now. Just as
a finishing element of the last segmentor two, we're talking about anger and
how that may increase your risk ofheart attack and stroke. I just wanted
to give the main symptoms of whatstroke looks like. If you know,
(29:41):
I mean, this is something thatcould be life saving to know this information.
If God forbid, you're in thepresence of somebody who's having a stroke
and you don't know what's wrong withthem, it would be important to act
fast. In fact, if youremember that acronym fast fast, you'll understand
(30:03):
why if there is somebody that's ill, you need to call nine to one
one immediately. It may save theirlife. This may help you to more
quickly identify someone having a stroke, just remembering the acronym fast FASTF in that
word stands for face. The facemay have a like a drooped looking area
(30:26):
on one side of the face ofthat person that typically is not there.
And that person may not be ableto smile. That's another sign that they
may be having artitacts or their mouthor I may be drooped or have some
drooping effect. That's something you wantto call nine to one one immediately.
The A in the word acronym fastfor symptoms of a stroke to remember are
(30:49):
arms. The person with suspected strokemay not be able to lift both of
their arms and keep them up becauseof weakness and numbness in one arm or
the other. And the S inthe acronym fast stands for speech is there
again, This is a classic symptomof somebody that may be having a stroke.
(31:11):
Speech. Their speech may be slurredor garbled, or the person may
not be able to talk at alldespite appearing to be awake and their eyes
are open, they just can't knowverbalize anything. And then T in the
acronym fast fast to recognize a strokeis and T stands for time. And
(31:34):
when these kinds of things are happening, you need to dial nine to one
one immediately and try to get helpfor that person. It could be a
life saving event and that would besuper all right, now, all right,
we're going to go to your phonecalls and questions. Now on the
air, those people have called intoour tot free number and asked a question
(31:59):
on the or in our phone bank. And next up we're going to hear
from Debbie in Rochester, New York. Here's Debbie. I have zero vestibular
nerve function. It's been progressing forthe last ten years. I was just
tested last month and I have zerofunction. I'm not busy, I just
(32:23):
have no balance and I can't walk. I use a walker, but it's
I have no balance. I can'tstand up for more than thirty seconds.
Okay, I like your show. That's about it. Okay, Debbie from
(32:44):
Rochester, New York. First, thank you for your phone call. So
sorry to hear that you have beenill and having trouble standing. I can't
even imagine this, and I thinkother people can't relate to it either.
For ten years a decade, thisis amazing to me. Now, I'm
certain that you've been to a lotof doctors, as you have mentioned,
and no help has been offered upand you're not getting better. You're still
(33:07):
in the state you are, soit sounds like you're not in the same
or the right path of healing artsso far and again, when you go
to doctors, doctors want to helppatients. That's what we're dedicated to doing.
That's why we get into the healingarts. That's our goal, that's
our mission in life, that's ourcalling, if you will. But when
(33:29):
no help is offered up and it'sten years later, it's time to reconsider
that you may be in the wronghealing art, because remember it's a healing
art, not a pure healing science. And some people have a misconception of
this. They think just because adoctor wears a statho scope around their neck
and they have a white coat andthey have some fancy initial behind their name,
(33:52):
they know everything. And if theydon't know it, nobody else does,
or no other healing art does,or no other healing art has anything
to offer. And that is can'tbe further from the truth and your proof
of it. Hopefully this particular conditioncan be still helped, but I would
say to you that you need toconsider going out of the conventional medical box
(34:16):
to help this. I have workedon myself many people who have had similar
issues like vestibular nerve issues such asthis, but just for references for people
who are listening to the show rightnow to understand this better. The vestibular
nerve that Debbie is talking about fromRochester, New York, who's been sick
(34:39):
for a decade here is primarily responsiblefor carrying nerve impulses involved in maintaining our
equilibrium and our balance. Now,I know that the average person wouldn't be
able to relate to this, noteven being able to stand up, because
we take that for granted. Andproblems that can occur in a person who's
(35:01):
having vestibular problems such as Debbie, occur with the ligaments and muscles or nerves
in the upper neck area, theupper cervical area of the spine, which
has to be investigated, which isnot typically investigated enough in the conventional medical
(35:25):
circles because I mean, there's notgoing to be able to give you like
a drug or operate on your brainstembecause that's where your brain stem is coming
down into your neck and if there'sdistortion there, problems can happen. Now,
I'll finish up with explaining how thisproblem can be helped from a non
(35:46):
conventional, safe and effective treatment protocolwhich I have helped many people with.
Stay tuned. I'm doctor Bob Martin, Did you know most water you consume

one health concern as we move towardand beyond the age of retirement is fear
of losing our vision and therefore theability to remain independent. Most of us,
at some point in time have utteredthe words I'm not seeing as well
as I used to, or Ithink I need stronger glasses. If you
are nearing or past age forty. It's not your imagination that your vision is
(38:22):
getting worse. What is likely causingyour vision to deteriorate is cataract formation.
Cataracts occur when the lens of theeye becomes cloudy in blocks light from entering,
which interferes with sharp, clear vision. A science based cataract reversal eye
drop called can See is changing livesof people with poor vision caused by cataract.

(40:02):
first name only, We don't needyour last name, the city that you're
calling from in the state, andthen state your question, maybe in a
sentence or two. That would begood because we're trying to get to as
many people as we possibly can onthe air to answer their health questions.
All right, now, then Debbie, we're talking with about Debbie and her
(40:25):
question. She called into the programto have her question answered from Rochester,
New York. She's having balance problemsbasically, and she's had this for ten
years and been to a lot ofdifferent doctors. But I am suspecting that
Debbie has not had the proper careto figure out where her balance problems are
coming from. And she's pretty muchyou could tell in her voice and her
(40:47):
demeanor that she's kind of given upa little bit but reaching out to me.
Thank goodness for help, and I'mso glad she had confidence enough to
do that. Thank you, Debbiefor that. I just hope that you
can find your way to getting help. But what I'm going to suggest you
do is change it up. Changeit up from the conventional medical circle to
(41:09):
the fact that many of these balanceproblems that we see in practice can be
coming from a structural problem in yourneck or your jaw or your cranium.
That can happen and it can disturbthe ligaments, muscles, nerves that feed
brain signals to your inner ear areawhere all most of all the balance the
(41:35):
vestibular area all the balance. Appropriatereception comes from appropriate reception also known as
kinnesthesia, which is your body's abilityto sense movement, sense you know,
action, or sense your location ofwhere your feed are related to your body.
When you don't have the good appropriatereception because you have vestibular nerve involvement,
that can cause imbalances. And sothis is what I want you to
(42:00):
do, is try to get awayfrom the thought that you can't get well,
that everything you've tried doesn't work well. You haven't tried everything yet.
You may have not tried things thatare outside of conventional medicine, which you
need to consider. Now. I'mglad that you're not dizzy, because a
lot of people who have these nerveproblems in their middle ear they also get
(42:22):
dizziness, or they have vertigo andthey can't stand up, or they have
trouble with balance. Luckily, foryou, you don't have that, because
that can really mess you up andcause all kinds of digestive issues and everything
else. But you just can't stand. So the action plan for you,
in my opinion, is number one, perform something called an Epley maneuver epley
(42:46):
ep l e y eply maneuver. And you can look this up for yourself
online if you like it. There'sa description, you know, put it
into doctor Google and you'll see adescription of this eply maneuver and basically what
it is. As you sit onthe edge of your bed and then you
turn your head and maybe about fortyfive degrees all right to the right,
(43:07):
let's say, and then quickly lieback down on the bed, keeping your
head turned to that side, tothe right side. The idea behind this
is that there may be something inyour cochlea area, which is a little
snail shaped object inside your middle earinside your head, and there may be
(43:28):
calcification of these little crystals, thesecalcified crystals that may be throwing off your
whole vestibular function. And what wewant to try to do with this maneuver,
this Eppley maneuver, is to movethose crystals out of the way by
a stretching and increasing blood supply intothat area. So sitting on the edge
of the bed, turning your headto the right, and then quickly lying
(43:49):
down on the bed with your headturned to that side, then turn your
head even more so to the leftside all the way to the left without
out releasing it. Just keep itto the left all the way, and
then turn your whole body into thebed as though you're trying to get up,
and then sit up on the bedand you repeat that maybe several times,
(44:15):
the idea being again you're trying toremove some of these crystals or move
some of these crystals out of theway that may be interfering with that balance
function. And after several days ofdoing this eply maneuver and you're not seeing
results. And here's what I recommendsecondarily too. And you may have done
this eply maneuver already if you havejust disregard what I'm saying, go to
(44:37):
Plan B and Plan B is Irecommend you visit a chiropractic physician so that
you can have your upper cervical spineproperly evaluated for something called subflixation, which
are misalignments of vertebrae in the upperneck, which is where the brain stem
comes down through the skull. Becauseif that is involved, if there's torquing
(45:01):
or misalignment of that area of yourneck, I can tell you vestibular function
can be thrown off. You mightwant to consult with a dentist who's trained
in evaluating and treating TMJ problems temporalmandibular joint problems. I assume someone has
looked into your ear by now toeliminate impacted serubum or earwax, or they've
(45:28):
evaluated that your sinuses can also createthis problem, and just as a precaution,
maybe they haven't. And if theyhaven't, I would recommend you go
to the health food store and getsomething called clear x L E ar rescue
nasal spray and get started on tryingthat because there may be some kind of
a low grade inflammation that's affecting thatarea. All right, thanks again,
(45:51):

do we get a verification of diagnosis. I've had many doctors just say I
(50:34):
have dementia. They sent me toMRIs and the brain injury shows up on
the MRI. I've had cats scamsdone and they say my head is cracked,
fractured, my skull is fractured. Then I've had a very difficult time
(50:57):
getting a verification of diagnosis and Iwant to move forward with my care,
and everyone that I go to getthe care that I'm seeking tells me to
get a verification of diagnosis from thedoctor. And the doctor's a real stintry
(51:19):
with it. Okay, there's pency, and you know, well, that's
going to be a tough one.First, you got to get somebody to
believe you, and then you needto get to the right type of doctor.
And I'm thinking to myself that maybeyou need to find a doctor that's
trained in functional medicine or integrative medicine. So at least the most important part
of this is to try to getyou into some type of care and treatment
(51:43):
that actually works with brain injuries. And in this case, I'm going to
recommend that you seek out hyperbaric oxygentherapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for these type
of brain injuries brain traumas is excellentand I've had many people respond way after
the injury date itself. Also, somebody who understands the importance of using omega
(52:07):
three fatty acids to reduce or tampdown the inflammatory process that may be going
on in your brain that's creating allthe symptoms that you have. And there
are many different forms of omega threefatty acids, from salmon oil to AHA
flour oil, which is omega threewhich is successful crossing the blood brain barrier.
