or to make a health related commentis eight hundred six oh six eighty eight
twenty two. Eight hundred six ohsix eighty eight twenty two. That's eight

(00:54):
hundred six zero six eighty eight twentytwo. It's the Doctor Bob Martin.
Well, you have entered a healingzone. We're in special People tuned in
each week to learn about the latestnews about health and wellness and most importantly,
how to get healthy and how tostay healthy naturally. Welcome, Welcome

(01:19):
everyone to this hour of the DoctorBob Martin's Show. I'm doctor Bob,
and I am here to encourage youso very strongly to become your own best
doctor most of the time meaning takingbetter care of yourself so you need less
care that may be associated with certainrisks. We have got a great show

(01:41):
plan for you today, but beforewe get to some of the headlines we're
going to be talking about today,I wanted to step back and tell you
we have the results of last week'shealth poll question. If you were with
us last week, you know thatI asked the question, should ultra processed

(02:02):
food such as donuts and French friesand cookies and ice cream and soda pops
be banned from selling them at schoolsand hospitals in order to stop them from
pushing aside more nutritious alternatives that keepus healthy and keep us well and out

(02:25):
of harm's way. Yes or no, And that was on my website.
It was heavily voted upon by you, the listener of the audience, and
we appreciate you going to doctor Bobdot com spelling out the word doctor doctor
Bob dot com and weighing in onthat. And we'll have the results of
that momentarily. But for those whodid not hear that last week, and

(02:49):
to remind us of what ultra processedfoods really are, because they are the
bad boys. They are the onesthat cause the most harm. They are
the ones that are driving people intoall of these chronic illnesses and needing emergency
medical care and hospitalization. And it'snearly impossible these days not to eat some

(03:14):
of it. But unfortunately a lotof people are eating a lot of it,
and therein lies the problem. We'reconstantly told to eat fewer unprocessed or
ultra processed foods, but a raftof studies over the years have warned of
the dangers of eating too many ofthese things. Researchers are adding to the

(03:38):
ever growing body of evidence releasing twostudies that suggest too much of these ultra
processed foods increases your risk of apotentially deadly heart attack or stroke by nearly
a quarter. Isn't that amazing?I mean, you have such control over

(04:02):
reducing your risk of having one ofthe biggest killers of man, two of
them actually heart attack and stroke. You have the ability to reduce that greatly,
And in this particular study, they'retalking about a quarter twenty five percent.
But what even are these ultra processedfoods that we have to worry about

(04:25):
that we should be concerned about well. Processing of foods refers to adding or
altering the raw ingredients that was originallythere that was started. This can be
done to make foods, of coursesafe to eat, such as pasteurization,
increase the shelf life of the foodsuch as freezing, or improve the taste

(04:49):
of the food so that people willcomply to eat it, such as adding
salt or fat or sugar. Unprocessexcuse me, or minimally processed foods are
usually exactly how they appear in nature, and the more we eat of the

(05:11):
unprocessed or minimally processed foods, thebetter off our health is going to be
because we're going to get the nutrientswe need and not all the garbage that
is added to these foods to extendtheir shelf life or change them in some
manner. They may undergo minimal processing, such as removing inedible parts. So

(05:38):
the idea is that you try toreceive and provide for yourself and your family
fruits, vegetables, seeds, meats, eggs, even milk that fall into
the category of minimal or unprocessed. You gotta stay or try to stay away

(05:59):
from, and it's again, inthis day and age, nearly impossible ultra
processed foods. And if you doconsume them, they ought to be consumed
once in a while. At mostultra processed foods are high in added fat
we know that can be problematic, sugar major problem today, and of course
salt. Low in protein. Theseultra processed foods are and fiber. We

(06:25):
need that fiber, we need theprotein. And of course these ultra processed
foods to stay away from are chockedfull of artificial coloring agents, sweeteners,
including artificial sweeteners, and preservatives, all of which was not there originally and

(06:47):
is not intended to be consumed, but food processing happens. The term covers
food that contains ingredients that a personwouldn't and add when cooking at home,
basically such as chemicals, coloring agents, and preservatives. You wouldn't use those
things at home when you're preparing ameal from scratch with let's say, raw

(07:12):
vegetables or fruits or other food products. These ready meals, ice cream,
sausages, deep fried chicken ketchup aresome of the best loved examples of ultra
processed foods. They are different thanprocessed foods, which are processed to make
them last longer or enhance tastes, such as cured meat, cheese, or

(07:35):
fresh bread. Ultra Processed foods arethe problem, folks, and those are
the ones we need to stay awayfrom as much as possible, reduce the
consumption of them, and in doingso, we will reduce our risks of
mostly preventable, degenerative chronic diseases thata lot of people get caught off guard

(08:01):
with. And I know what somepeople are saying, Well, you know,
I am offsetting my ultra processed fooddiet or my consumption of ultra processed
foods with regular exercise. And that'sgood. But you can't counter garbage with

(08:22):
exercise, even though it would certainlybe better if someone were exercising versus someone
who is not eating garbage food. But how about both? How about getting
regular exercise and eating as minimal amountof ultra processed foods. Foods that when
you read the label, there arethree, four, five, six syllable

(08:46):
words that you cannot pronounce, youdon't understand, you've never heard of before.
Those are ultra processed foods. Theyare designed by food companies for their
benefit for lessening their cost and gettinghigh compliance for you to consume those foods

(09:07):
that are crowding out the nutrients, the important nutrients that your body needs to
heal itself and function optimally. Thoseultra processed foods are doing just that.
Those are the ones you want totry to stay away from. It's sort
of like the difference between eating astalk of corn, where you maybe steam

(09:30):
it or boil it that would beminimally processed, whereas processed corn would be
maybe an example would be canned sweetcorn, and then you get to the
ultra processed corn, which is cornchips. You see how the progression of
that went. Corn as it comesout of the field, sweet corn minimally

(09:56):
processed. Of course, you gotto still get the stalk it are ready
to eat. You could also lookat carrots that way. Eating a raw
carrot after cleaning it, that's minimallyprocessed, and you carrot juice that's processed.
It's been run through and altered inthat and that's good, not a
problem. But then you get tocarrot cake, which is the ultra process

(10:18):
for it. You get micro drifthere, or eating an apple versus apple
sauce versus apple jelly gummies. Theapple jelly gummy, of course, is
the ultra processed and the apple isthe raw form of it, which is
more, which is better for you? All right, So I think you
get the idea. When we comeback from this break, I will finally

(10:41):
get to the results of last week'shealthful question. But I think that required
a little bit of explanation in frontof it, because when people think of
ultra process versus process, it's confusing. I will tell you the results when
we come back. I'm doctor BobMartin. EF he doesn't come, come,

(11:05):
God in you a God. Youare good fore faith? All right,
Doctor Bob Martin, back with you, and I thank you for tuning
into the program. Today. We'regonna disclose to you last week's health poll

(11:26):
a question results here momentarily. ButI also want to remind you that if
you are having some type of ahealth challenge, a health related problem,
a situation, a health issue,I'm here for you. In fact,
we provide a toll free nationwide phonenumber for you to call. It's our

(11:50):
caller hotline Doctor Bob Martin Listener Callerhotline phone number where you call into the
number. You'll hear my voice atthe end of the call asking you to
state your first name, only thecity and state in which you're calling from,
and then your question or your healthrelated comments. That easy. Try

(12:11):
to make it short and sweet thereader's digest condensed version. Brevity is appreciated,
making it fair for everybody wishing toget on and have their health question
answered or have their comment aired onthe radio show. Here. So here's
the number jotted down for safe keepingin case you need it someday. You
may not need it right now becauseyou're doing well and I am glad about

(12:33):
that, but if you do havea health related problem, I'm here for
you and I'll do everything I canto help you out by answering your question
on the air. The phone numberis toll free nationwide eight hundred six zero
six eighty eight twenty two. Eighthundred six zero six eighty eight twenty two.

(12:58):
That's how you ask secure health questionor make your health related comment.
Eight hundred six zero six eighty eighttwenty two. The website, of course,
where all things news health news exist, and the podcast library, which
are recordings of past shows in caseyou miss one or you want to hear
it all over again. Also, the social media platform opportunities exist there x

(13:24):
LinkedIn Instagram. They're all there onmy website doctor Bob dot com spelling out
the word doctor doctor bob dot com. All right, now, we were
last segment of the program talking abouthow ultraprocessed foods are problematic and we're learning
more about them. It's basically junkfood. It's under the category of junk

(13:50):
food. And I think everybody bynow knows they should avoid junk food.
It's problematic on so many levels. We be here all day just discussing that.
But it is undermining the health ofour youth, and it's undermining the
health of people who go to hospitalto get well and their choices are in

(14:11):
the cafeteria or their family member's choicesor in the cafeteria are junk ultra processed
foods. Why on earth would youserve ultra processed foods that have been just
destroyed and things added to them thatare not healthy for human consumption. Why
would you on earth have that ina hospital, a sanctuary of health and

(14:33):
healing. Oh, I guess it'sunder the guise of profitability or convenience.
I don't know, it doesn't makeany sense to me. It also doesn't
make any sense to me to provideultra processed foods such as donuts and French
fries and cookies and soda pops inschools where our children and grandchildren are roaming

(14:56):
around trying to figure out how toget calories into their body. There it
is, there's the machine, Gofeed the money, boom out it comes.
So last week on the radio showhere, we asked the question,
should ultra process foods such as thosethings I just mentioned donuts, French fise,
cookies, et cetera, be bannedfrom schools and hospitals to stop them

(15:20):
from pushing aside more nutritious alternatives thatwe ought to be offering. Up yes
or no. Now, you votedon this, and I'm very surprised to
tell you the results of those peoplewho went over to my website doctor Bob
dot com and voted on that question. Fifty percent of you said no,
they should not be banned, andfifty percent said yes. Kind of surprising

(15:45):
to me. I thought it wouldbe much greater in the area of well,
ban them, because it just makessense. But I think people realize
that it's going to be a hardlift to change those habits, or perhaps
they say, well, no,you should give people those choices and let

(16:07):
them be the decision makers. Youdon't ban stuff. Well, you know,
whatever we're doing right now is notworking, folks, it's just not
working. Just go out in thestreet and look around. We are the
sickest nation on planet Earth right today. Of all of the affluent countries on

(16:29):
the planet, we are the numberone sickest. We have the poorest health,
poorest longevity, and yet we spendthe most on crisis management sick care
of any nation. We spend themost get the least. Part of that
has to do with education or thelack thereof. So we need to take

(16:49):
it upon ourselves as citizens to takebetter care of ourselves and be less dependent
upon, you know, the crisismanagement. At the end. It's sort
of like the old cliche of youknow, you can be a bad boy
and girl all year long, andthen when Christmas comes around or some other
holiday, you want to be showeredwith gifts even though you are a bad

(17:14):
boy or a bad girl. SantaClaus hopefully will be there in the end
for you, though, And that'ssort of the same way when people to
the degree of thirty thousand of myown personal patients who I treated in my
practice career came through the door, and we started taking the histories of what
they were eating and the diseases thatthey walked in with. There were high

(17:38):
correlations between those people who ate themost junk food and polluted their bodies with
tobacco and excess of alcohol and otherunfortunate materials they swallowed, drank, or
breathed in, and the diseases thatthey now are suffering from. So he

(18:00):
ever thinks they're going to get it, nobody ever thinks they're going to be
the one that goes down with whateverillness you can put in that blank,
But it happens. Our food isa major component of that process. It's
sort of the cliche of garbage in, garbage out, garbage out being the
disease that you generate by virtue ofeating garbage. You. You know,

(18:26):
most of us would not consider puttingwater or kerosene in the tank of our
cars because we know that if wedon't run a certain level of octane gasoline
through that car ninety two percent eightysix eighty seven percent, that car won't
run right and we may be gettingstranded in the bonies. We wouldn't do

(18:49):
that. We want to we followthose directions on that car and make sure
that it gets the right gas torun optimally and every once in a while
get the oil changed and get checkedup. Well, I'll tell you what,
if we treated our bodies closer tothat, our health, we would
be a whole lot better off.But what we don't. We don't do
that. We wait until things breakbefore we fix it. Because that's the

(19:11):
system that is there that has convincedyou that it's okay to do that,
which is the crisis management sick caresystem we have today, call it the
medical system, if you will.So it's we needed to take it upon
ourselves to change that up because it'syou can be your own best doctor most

(19:32):
of the time. That's the wholetheme of this show. And the way
that you do that is you gaininformation and knowledge and information and you put
it into action. You live thatlifestyle to the best degree that you can.
And I know it's not easy. It's hard. Sometimes it's hard,
but it is as necessary as anythingelse in life. And I think sometimes

(19:53):
we treat our animals and our inanimateobjects, our cars and our furniture and
our front yards better than we doour own bodies, only because we believe
that in the back of our mindwhen things break, Santa Claus will be
there to fix us and everything willbe fine again and you can do it
all over again. Not true,Not true, and it's a fake.

(20:18):
It's facade. It's not good andwe need to change it up. And
hopefully this program is helping you todo that in the encouragement to do that
by eating well, living a healthylifestyle, and doing the things you can
do to better maintain your health andwellness. All right, when we come
back from this break, we're goingto and by the way, thank you

(20:41):
for participating that health poll. Fiftyto fifty is amazing to me. But
at least we now know your opinion. We come back, we're going to
go to your telephone calls and openline health questions and comments. Stay tuned.
I'm doctor Bob Martin. Are youwaiting on a line next, Jake?

(21:03):
Are you waiting for the perfect night? Are you waiting to the time
is night by up? Don't youwant to learn to deal with Don't you
want to take the wheel and steaddon't you beat another man by Why are

(21:26):
you into so if you wear outyour body, where are you going to
live? Anyway? Welcome or welcomeback to the Doctor Bob Martin Show.
I thank you so very much fortuning into the program today. Shortly here,
we're gonna get to a phone callsof listeners of this radio show who

(21:48):
have called into our caller hotline numberand are needing help, and I'm going

all about. And I want youto have that toll free number as well
in case you need to call inand get help yourself for a health condition
or health issue you have, ormaybe somebody in your life, maybe you

(22:11):
loved on, a friend, aneighbor, a coworker who's struggling and you
want to call in on their behalf. You can do that as well.
Or you may just comment on somethingrelated to health that's on your mind,
or you've heard of the show,or you want to heap praise on the
host of the program. We alwaysaccept that one. Our number into the

(22:33):
show is eight hundred six zero sixeighty eight twenty two. Eight hundred six
zero six eighty eight twenty two that'seight hundred six zero six eighty eight twenty
two. And of course the websitedoctor Bob dot com. We'll get to
calls shortly this doctor and my entirefamily, as well as my healthcare colleagues,

(23:02):
many of them who are interested inavoiding tooth decay, and who doesn't
want to avoid tooth decay. Nobodywants gingervitis horrible, or periodontal disease,
or just bad breath. Nobody wantsany of those conditions. So what do
you do to provide resistance against themprevention against them? Well, I don't

(23:25):
know what you do. You maybe using one of these big box commercial
toothpaste products that have just tons andtons of garbage in them. If you
read the label, you'll see allthese words. You cannot pronounce or understand
what they are. I can tellyou what I use because I've whittled it
down. I did it about twentyyears ago in the investigation of my oral

(23:48):
health, my oral cavity, keepingit healthy, because I know that if
I keep my oral cavity, andthis has been proven out in scientific studies,
people who do a good job inthe oral cavity with flossing, brushing,
taking care of their teeth. Seeinga dental hygienis once in a while
and a dentist are healthier because theyhave less inflammatory response going on in their

(24:11):
mouth that can wade deeper into theirsystem and undermine their health. So it's
important to go there. I usea system called the Spry Spry Dental Defense
System. It's comprised of Spry toothpaste, Spry mouth rints, and Spry gum

(24:32):
and mints. It is so importantto have that exposure on a daily basis
because inasmuch as I love my dentalhygienist and my dentist, they're doing great
work. I just don't want themdoing their cut and slice and dicing and
doing procedures. How about you.I want to give get a clean oral

(24:56):
health bill each time that I goin there, because I'm using to brush
my teeth and rinse out the debrisand the germs and the bad bacteria on
my mouth, Spry toothpaste and mouthwashand chewing the Spry gum and mints,
which is available in flavors like peppermints, cinnamon, spearmint. It works,

(25:18):
and the primary ingredients that make itwork are plant based and your dental hygienist
and dentist are, They're going topeer into your mouth the next time,
especially if you get on the sameprogram that my family and I and my
colleagues do, the Spry Dental DefenseSystem, They're going to peer into your
mouth and go, WHOA looking good? What are you doing? And you'll

(25:41):
have to tell them I'm doing Sprys p R Y. It's anti cavity,
anti plaque, anti bad news thenext time you're in your dentist's office.
And not only that, your teethare going to look a lot whiter
and brighter in your mouth, andyour breath is going to be a lot
fresher. So saygobye to all theproblems. If you want squeaky clean teeth,

(26:03):
gum and breath, use the SpryDental Defense System. It's available at
CBS, right eight pharmacies, targetvitamin shops, Sprouts, and all natural
grocers nationwide. You can also findmore about this program Spray Dental Defense over
on their website. Clear dot com. Clear is spelled x L e A

(26:29):
R dot com Clear dot com forSpray Dental Defense. They're the same makers
of the Clear nasal spray family, which I use. Also all Right let's
get to your telephone calls and questionsnow. First up is Lynn in the
state of Iowa. Hello, springingthis limb. It's near the banks of

(26:56):
the Mississippi River in Iowa and listenon WMT in Theedar Rapids. But I
don't live in Theedar Rapids. AndI had a question about my foot for
more than ten years, I worea night splint and the foot doctor I

(27:21):
went to prescribe some colorlezill and andthen person and it really does nothing for
my foot. And I was listeningto your show a couple of weeks ago
when you had the ten one ohone nutrition talked about, and I wondered

(27:47):
if that might help. I loveto hear your answers. Thank you,
Okay, Lynn, thank you foryour phone call from Iowa. State of
Iowa, appreciate that. Sorry tohear you're having trouble in Gosh, if
the care that you're getting right now, if you're seeing like a foot doctor,
like a doctor, a podiatric medicineDPM of a diatrist, maybe you

(28:10):
need to get a second or thirdopinion of what's going on. Sounds like
there may be some or you're concernedabout some circulatory problem, some biomechanical problem.
Not certain, but it would bea good idea to go get a
second opinion. Now, you madereference to something we discussed on the program,
the N one oh one lozenges, which are nitric oxide lozenges which increase

(28:37):
circulation by increasing nitric oxygen in thebody, which opens up blood vessels,
which is a good thing. Sowithout examining you, it would be really
difficult to understand what's going on.But it sounds like there may be some
circulatory problem or some foot related orextremity related problem. The very best thing

(29:00):
I think you can do is toget a second opinion. You said it
yourself. What you're currently doing isnot working, and it hasn't worked for
a long time, so I thinkit's time to abandon that, and it
may require maybe more than just onehealth practitioner. If it is circulatory or

(29:23):
biomechanical, maybe you should consider massagetherapy or reflexology, some physical work on
that. Maybe try acupuncture. Ifit's a bone related structural problem with the
foot, you might want to seea chiropractor who does extremity manipulation. Have
you been looked at for orthotics? There's just a lot of opportunities here,

(29:48):
but I think the key is startputting something into action so that you can
get the relief that you're looking for. I appreciate your phone call, good
help to you. Stay tuned. We'll be right back, and I welcome

(30:15):
you or welcome you back to theDoctor Bob Martin Show. I'm doctor Bob,
so glad you dropped in today. In a special appreciation to our listeners
who continue to tell their friends andfamily members and co workers about this radio
show by referring them over to theprogram. And the best way to do

(30:37):
that is to jot down the callletters of the station you're listening to right
now, make sure you know ifit's an AM or FM station, frequency
on the dial time of the day, and just pass on on to as
many people as you can, givethem the opportunity to tune in and learn
something about their most precious possession, health, your health, and how to

(30:57):
become your own best doctor most ofthe time. Now, I want to
let you know we have another healthpole question we'd love to get your opinion
of, and it goes like this. It's over on my website, by
the way, at doctor Bob dotcom. Spelling out the doctor word Dctorbob
dot com. Health pole question hereit is, since seventeen percent of people

(31:23):
aged seventy five to eighty four andthirty two percent of people aged eighty five
and older have Alzheimer's dementia, areyou in favor of a maximum age to
be president of the United States?I mean, that question is hotly debated

(31:48):
right now. As many of youknow, as most of you know that
we're looking at the age of thatindividual who will become or stay the president
of the United States. Is agean issue? Should there be a maximum

(32:12):
age to become president of the UnitedStates? Yes? Or no? It's
that simple. You can vote onthat at doctor Bob dot com, spelling
out the word doctor Bob dot com. All right, let's get back to
your telephone calls and questions on ourtoll free doctor Bob Martin Show Caller hotline

(32:35):
that you can access anytime you likeas well to ask a question about your
health or somebody else's outh, ormake a health comment. That number eight
hundred six zero six eighty eight twentytwo. Eight hundred six zero six eighty
eight twenty two. Let's go backto the phones again. Next up,
we say hello to mail in SaltLake City, Utah. Mel the Salt

(33:00):
Lake City You, Tom, Ihave an artery. That's I did a
calcium scan on my chest and Iguess from my arteries is you got a
wide area where there's some plus drawbuild up. Thank you. Okay,

(33:20):
this is an important one. Thiscalcium test, this calcium score test can
be a little bit confusing because itonly shows calcified calcium, not soft plaque.
In other words, they're looking forplaque in the arteries when they do
this test, and the soft plaquein the artery is just as dangerous as

(33:46):
in some believe more dangerous than thehard plaque that can be actually viewed.
That's has a certain radio opacity toit. If you have something that looks
like that in your there's been inflammationthere. Now doctors like to claim that

(34:06):
cholesterol is the enemy. It isnot. It's inflammation. The cholesterol is
simply there to try to resolve theproblem by putting a fat slick over an
area of inflammation. So that's sortof how it works. It's the explanation
of you pull up to a homethat is on fire and the fire department

(34:34):
is already there. Trying to tryingto extinguish the fire with water, and
you blame the fire department because they'rethere. No, they're there in response
to the fire. They're not thecause of the fire. Given cholesterol lowering
drugs to lower cholesterol is the equivalentof blaming the fire department for being there.

(34:59):
They're the No, just because they'rethere doesn't mean they're the cause.
They're there to help. Cholesterol isnot the cause. It's there to help.
We all need. We make seventyto eighty percent of our own cholesterol
every day, no matter what weeat. Our bodies make it for a
very important reason. Now, yes, there are genetically challenged people that have

(35:19):
the you know, ap one bea cholesterol small particle that can be an
issue, but typically not. It'sget to the inflammation and in your case,
finding out what that inflammation is causedby in your lifestyle and trying to
do things that will counter it wouldbe the key. I would say to

(35:43):
you that if your doctor hasn't measuredyour homocysteine level, which can be measured
in your blood, that needs tohappen immediately. That's a very important marker
that you need to have checked out. Also, of course, cardiosensitive C
reactive protein would be important. Tocheck out your lipids, of course,

(36:04):
looking at those and then asking questions, what can you do lifestyle wise,
food wise, exercise wise, loweringyour stress supplement to lower inflammation. And
how about a supplement that actually hasbeen scientifically proven to reduce plaque in the
arteries. That would be kyolic agedgarlic extract. It's true UCLA, doctor

(36:28):
Budolph, cardiologist, the studies onkyolic kylic aged garlic extract proven to reduce
plaquing in arteries. I get startedon that and then get those other blood
numbers to see where the inflammation isto do things that will reduce inflammation.
All right, thank you for yourphone call, Mel, Take care.

(36:49):
I'm doctor Bob Martins. Knowss allright, Doctor Bob Martin, back with

(37:21):
you in our final segment of thishour of the program. But don't go
anywhere. Next hour, Boy ohboy, do we have something to talk
about. This may be somewhat controversialto some people to discuss. The headline
is, if elected, former PresidentDonald Trump will investigate big pharma over autism,

(37:45):
over allergies, and over chronic healthissues that he says are completely out
