the top of that list. We'll find out, and we'll
end the hour with the Health Mystery the Weekend. In between,
we're going to take some more of your open topic
health related question calls on our Doctor Bob Martin Show.
Call her hotline phone number or your health related comments
and we'll get to those shortly.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
But we begin this hour.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Talking about a warning that too many carry out foods
could be.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Giving you a running nose.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Winter cold and flu viruses often get the blame for
blocked or running noses. But scientists have discovered another very
unlikely cause, too many takeaways, too many carry out food orders.
Research now shows those eating carry out dinners between one
(03:00):
and four times a week are around twenty percent more
likely to suffer from nasal irritation than those eating less
of them or less than once a week. Scientists think
fast foods and fast food diets, such as those that
are involved in carryout food or takeaways such as pizzas
(03:23):
and Chinese food and the whole long list, can be
depriving the body of key nutrients, key vitamins such as
vitamin D, vitamin E, and minerals that help dampen down
the inflammatory process inside of our nasal passages. Now I
(03:45):
might add also those carry out foods they also have
way too much salt, way too many bad fats in them,
including seed oils. Because let's face it, most restaurants are
not going who put in the most expensive ingredients in
the food. They're going to try to save money at
(04:06):
your expense, just enough to make the food taste okay
so you come back, but not enough to give you
the proper nutrients your body needs in order to stay healthy.
That's just the way life is and if you think
it's any different, you're very naive. I know chefs in
restaurants that give me the down and dirty on this. Now,
(04:28):
these researchers track fifty thousand people and linked frequent carryout
food orders, eating habits to their blocked nose symptoms and
a reduced even sense of smell. Millions of people experience
running and congested noses for colds rather from colds, and
(04:52):
they also can of course get it with hay fever
as well, but symptoms are usually short lived. However, around
fifty million people fifty million Americans are plagued with chronic ongoing,
which usually means like more than three or four months,
sign you sitis or a permanently blocked nose. They just
(05:15):
are mouth breathers and they just sound you know, oh you.
You can't even understand them. They muddle so much because
they have no ability to breathe, and that's essential for talking.
And this develops when the nasal passages and the lining
of the sinuses, the air filled cavities behind the nose, cheeks,
and eyes become inflamed and blocked. And this research is
(05:41):
saying that because you're not getting the correct amounts or
any at all of certain nutrients to protect your immune system,
to give your immune system the raw materials to protect
you against all the things in the air, all the
things that you're gonna touch and then bring back to
your face. Once those are deprived from your body, you
(06:02):
become almost like the equivalent to roadkill waiting to happen,
meaning the viruses are going to be there and you
won't be able to defend them because you don't have
enough raw materials on board in terms of the nutrients
you receive through your food, and therefore you will be
more likely to get sick. You add to that stress
of life, You add to that not enough sleeping. You
add to that illicit and lisicit drugs, and things can
(06:26):
go real wrong, real fast, and it leads to symptoms
with this, such as difficulty breathing through the nose and
pain and tenderness around the eyes and the nose in
some cases may last for months and even years, often
leading to the formation of what are called polyps and
tiny gross in the sinuses that block air, which gives
(06:48):
license to these E and T doctors to go in
there and chop and channel everything, and all you have
to do is just remove the irritation or prevented outright
so that these things don't happen, because polyps are just
simply the body trying to defend itself. Researches it from
a Korea University in Soul, South Korea, Korea, whose study
(07:11):
was published in the journal Diseases, said people might suffer
less if they change their dietary habits and prepared meals
more often at home.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
What are they talking about.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
They're talking about people with running noses, stuffed up, clogged
up noses.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Sign you sitis because of what they're.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Eating, and you thought it was an afron deficiency or
assign you whatever deficiency. No, you can also choose if
you are a person and we're gonna eat carryout because
that's convenient, and sometimes you just don't have enough time
to get into the old kitchen to get it done.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
But you do have options.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
If you know you're taking out a lot of food
and you know you're being deprived of the nutrients you
need in those foods, certain vitamins like vitamin E, vitamin D,
vitamin C, vitamin A. You're getting too much bad fat,
too much salt. It's depleting your body of important nutrients.
You can certainly supplement with vitamin A, CD and zinc.
And you can also protect your nasal cavity by using
(08:13):
clear nasal spray. We've talked about it on the show.
Clear nasal sprays can also protect you to a certain degree.
All right, So there you have it. All right, let's
get right back to your telephone calls and questions. Next
up is Donna in Row.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
New York.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Hi, doctor Bab, This is Donna from Rome, New York.
I have a question and the vascular defense medication. You
said it prevents blood vessels, the blood from pooling in
your legs and not going to the head and neck,
causing had a neck pain, which I never knew because
(08:48):
I do have I thought it was hair fill cles
pain in my head and sometimes in my neck just occasionally.
And I know you said compression stockings doesn't in the legs.
And I want to know how much of the bask
docent you should take. And thank you for all the
wonderful health information you give us.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
They have a good day, okay, Donna, thank you for
your call. First of all, vascular defense the supplement over
at sunnutrition dot com. Sunnutrition dot Com. That's how you
get a hold of vascular defense. You take two capsules
per day inflammation. You know, you make sure that because
(09:32):
of what you're talking about here, the neck pain, you
make sure that it's not a biomechanical problem, because most
neck pain is caused by the vertebrae in your neck
being misaligned. Cause called subluxation, could be spasm of the neck,
could be certain irritations within the neck area. That is
(09:54):
the domain of the chiropractic physician, first and foremost doesn't
mean you can't also use adjunctively to that massage, therapy, acupuncture,
certain postural changes, certain stretching exercises. Once the vertebrae in
(10:14):
your neck are properly aligned and the nerves are not
being irritated and the muscles are not being strained, so
that's the ticket out of that. The vascular defense is
almost simple. You just take two capsules a day and
you let that inflammation melt away. That works well, and
(10:35):
also a good choice would be to look up what
an anti inflammatory diet is about, like the Mediterranean diet,
and get away from the sad diet the standard American diet.
Do all of that, and I think you're going to
be a whole lot better off, don I do again?
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Thank you for your phone call. All right, stay tuned.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Coming up, we've got this week's health alternative of the week.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Remember, the only bad health question is the one you're
not asking, so call doctor Bob and tell me where
it hurts. Eight hundred six zero six eight eight two
two the website doctor bob dot com spelling.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Out the word doctor.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
We'll get back to calls some questions in a moment,
but first, this week's installment of the Health Alternative of
the Week, Well, the Health Alternative of the Week kind
(12:46):
of ties into what I was just talking about, and
that is way too many people have runny, drippy noses,
clogged up noses, and they're using over the counter sprays
that are highly addictive. They don't fix anything, They just
make the problem worse. Can you say afferent, Can you
say all of the drugs you see on television? Well,
(13:06):
here's a perfect way to get out of that. You
make the changes in your diet by eating less carry
out foods, staying hydrated, getting plenty of sleep, and then
know that a all natural nasal spray will help get
you through those times when you're clogged up, or you
have the running nose, you're starting to come down sick,
or you want to get over it quickly. This week's
(13:28):
Health Alternative of the Week is the running Nose Alternative
that you can find at all natural grocer stores. If
you suffer from a running nose or maybe even itchy
eyes or congestion, sinus problems and sneezing, and you're done
with the numbing your brain and reflexes with over the
(13:50):
counter drugs and prescription drugs, it's time to consider a safer, healthier,
science based alternative, and we have them for you. First
start by limiting your consumption to these processed foods and
these carry out foods, and emphasize more fresh quality produce
like organic fresh fruits and vegetables and organic proteins. Remember
(14:14):
also that certain foods are high allergen foods. We're talking
about people who are prone to allergies, and if you are,
you should maybe get off of the wheat for a while,
the corn, the soy, and the dairy because they're in
the top five foods of intolerance or food allergies. Corn, wheat, soy,
and dairy are among the most common food allergens, and
(14:38):
that includes all the breads and pastas and muffins and
bagels that you're woofed out all the time. If it
isn't the outright glyadin and gluten in, there could be
the glyphosate. These things are sprayed with. Second, avoid foods
packaged in boxes, cans, bottles, jars, tubs, and bags. Such
as packaging almost all always indicates some degree of processing
(15:03):
highly processed foods. Third, people with grass allergies may have
some cross sensitivities. Cattle consume grasses or grains, and these
foods appear to be passed on into the milk and
into the other dairy products. Beef can also aggravate cedar
and juniper allergy issues. Eggs can worsen ragweed allergies, we
(15:26):
know this, and shellfish can intensify dust allergies. They're like
almost like an allergy pairing, if you will. The health
alternative of the week four people who have these running
or stuffed up noses is Clear nasal sprays. Clear is
spelled x l ear. The X stands for xylotol, one
(15:46):
of the important ingredients in the Clear nasal sprays will
help wash the allergens out of your nasal cavity. Clear
nasal sprays contains xylotol, which is more effective in cases
of chronics rhinosinusitis than a leen alone. A recent study
found that clear nasal sprays enhanced nasal nitric oxide or
n O levels, and when nitric oxide reaches the lower
(16:09):
airways and the lungs, oxygenation is improved, blood flow and
circulation are increased, and inflammation is reduced. There it is
reducing inflammation with this week's health alternative of the week
in the nasal cavity. Clear nasal Sprays spelled x l
e ar. You can find them at all natural grocery
stores nationwide, or you can also go to their website
(16:32):
over at clear xl ear dot com, naturalgrocers dot com,
or natural grocery stores for Clear nasal sprays for that
running or stuff he knowses. There you have it, the
health alternative of the week. Let's go right back to
your telephone calls and questions. Next up we say hello
to Victoria in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
Victoria, Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
How to brain aneurysm aneurysm of the brain at the
end of October survived, don't have really any issues.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
Spinking is good, walking is good, Thinking is pretty good.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Just wanted to know what you might recommend other than
the beginning a skin I said every two years that
I could do to try.
Speaker 7 (17:20):
To not allow that to happen again. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Okay, Victoria, Wow, you're a walking miracle. Ten percent or
less people survive an aneurysm such as the one you
just described.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Well one.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
You've got to make sure you're constantly monitoring your blood pressure.
Your blood pressure needs to be monitored at home on
a regular basis, so that you if you see any
spikes in your blood pressure, any rise in your blood pressure,
you can report it to your doctor. You're looking for
one twenty over eighty or less. Keeping it in that
pocket is key. Making sure that your weight is also
where it needs to be. If you need to lose
(17:55):
some weight, please do so. Control stress. Stress is a
major factor in this. You got to exercise on a
regular basis. That'll curb the stress. It will help you
with your weight. It'll also help you, of course, with
your blood pressure. As far as diet goes, Victoria, you
need to be looking at like a Mediterranean diet or
the Hawaii Diet.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
I don't know if you've heard of that book.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
It's excellent, The Hawaii Diet by doctor Terry Shintani, or
just go in over to Amazon and get one of
the Mediterranean style diets. That's the diet that you should
be on to optimize your health. Lastly, for brain rehabilitation.
With anybody who's had a brain injury, I don't care
what it is, whether it be in a car accident,
(18:37):
you slammed your head, you had a stroke, whatever it
may be. I am a big fan of HBOT. HBOT
stands for hyper baryck oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy must
be involved in everyone's regiment in my opinion, to get
the best result outcome for brain injuries, hyperbaric oxygen therapy
(18:59):
you might need twenty your forty treatments. You'll have to
see the people who do it to give you that advice.
Appreciate your phone call, Good health to you. Next up
is Kevin calling it from Davenport, Iowa.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
Yeah, Kevin, Davenport, Iowa. I've got a friend that her
appendix burst and then when they were doing that, they
punctured her bladder and her uterus and they sowed her
back up. She got sepsis and they ended up taking
(19:30):
out her uterus and I don't know what all else
in there but her intestines. The doctors have finally figured
out that there's a void and her abdominal cavities and
her intestines keep getting twisted, and we're trying to figure
(19:53):
out some way of keeping they get irritated, and she
some way of keeping everything flowing through her intestines so
that they don't get us irritated.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Well, Kevin, this is a very complicated health challenge and
she needs a very careful medical supervision, supervision with a gasturentrologist.
But to keep things flowing through her gas room intestinal track,
I recommend like go into the health food store picking
up some alo vera juice, maybe one ounce of that
three times a day. Magnesium glycinate is a very gentle
(20:33):
form of magnesium that helps doctor Ohira's probiotics must do here.
She may need some meshing process. Her doctors will decide
on that. To keep her gastro intestinal track where it
needs to be, she should be eating more prunes and figs,
avoid dairy products, avoid meat, fried foods, more veggies please,
(20:54):
and lots of fruit.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Thank you for calling on her, behalf, Kevin. I'm doctor
Bob Martin. Mistakes, but everybody's got a choice to make.
Everybody needs a leap of faith. When are you taking yours?
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Hone?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Are you in phone sound, doctor Bob Martin back with you.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Now. You've been listening to people who've been calling in
on our Doctor Bob Martin Show caller hotline phone number,
and you can too.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
You're invited to do that.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
This line is available to you to call in well
anytime of the night or day, and you will hear
me answer the phone. I'll ask you to state your
first name, your city and state. Make sure your radio
is not blaring in the background. Turn your radio off
before you make the call. State your first name, your
city and state. Don't need your phone number. And then
(21:58):
your question, your question about health or your health related comment.
That number to call in is eight hundred six zero
six eight eight two two eight hundred six zero six
eight eight two two one eight hundred six zero six
eighty eight twenty two. Now coming up shortly here we're
(22:19):
going to have for you more calls, more questions, and
also the health outrage of the week will be coming.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
But first this.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
There's a supplement that you may not be aware of
that if you take it, it may help you in
a number of ways. Most people don't know about this yet,
but you will know about it soon.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
The good news is is that Terry naturally vitamins is
always on the cutting edge of the latest science, the
latest research into the nutraceutical industry, and there again they're
right on top of something called pea.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Pea is short.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
For palmitoy lethanolamine. You don't need to worry about that
long word. You just need to remember the initials pea
for short. It's a nutrient found in very minute quantities
in egg yolks and other foods. Research scientists are showing
(23:26):
that this pea substance can address multiple muscle pain and
recovery of arthritis symptoms. Not only that taking pea as
a supplement, it can improve your mobility, your range of motion.
It can even include improving your cognitive health and a
(23:46):
multitude of other health concerns including allergies, respiratory symptoms, and fibromyalgia.
So you know that pea the supplement is targeting in
the inflammatory response without the adverse side effect, and there's
plenty of science behind it. And because of its anti
inflammatory actions of pea the supplement, researchers have investigated its
(24:08):
ability to relieve pain in a variety of conditions, including
in some of these you may relate to because you
have it or you've had it in the past, sciatica,
which is a painful condition that emanates in your leg
sometimes all the way to your foot, neuropathy. More and
more people are developing peripheral neuropathy. So PEA the supplement.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
Might be for you. Or you've got jaw pain and
you just don't know what to do.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
There's just a few things plus in the scientific research
on the most common form of arthritis osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis,
PEA supplementation lowered levels of inflammatory markers, slowed the damage
of cartilage that's going on in people with osteoarthritis, and
reduced knee swelling.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
So, if you are looking to improve your overall health
con its inner supplementing with pe A for the relief
of both acute and chronic pain, better physical recovery from injuries,
and improve mood and focus, and a more robust immune response.
Take pe A the supplement from Terry Naturally Vitamins. You
(25:19):
may find pe A at Finer Health food stores nationwide,
or you can go to Terry Naturalivitamins dot com, Terry
Naturally Vitamins dot Com, or Finer Health food stores to
find the supplement.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
P e A.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
All right, now it's time for this week's installment of
the health outrage of the week.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
She's you don't believe it. Come on each time for
the health outbradge because it's nothing. Bullet boy, this is
pretty outrageous.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
United Healthcare, the insurance company you've heard of them in
the news, Lee calls a doctor a medical doctor in
the middle of a surgery to ask if her patient's
overnight's stay is really necessary. Despite being the subject of
a full month of scrutiny in the wake of its
(26:17):
CEO murder, United Healthcare is somehow still going to extreme
links to deny health care insurance claims, and one surgeon
has taken to social media to speak out against it.
In a post on TikTok, Texas surgeon Elizabeth Potter was
(26:38):
flabbergasted by a recent exchange she had with a United
Healthcare representative who called her when she was in the
middle of a surgical procedure and asked if the patient's
overnight's stay was really necessary because they were trying to
get pre authorization for that patient to stay overnight after surgery.
(27:02):
It's twenty twenty five. The Austin based plastic surgeon declared,
and insurance just keeps getting worse. United Healthcare has become
the epi center of a fierce debate surrounding the systemic
denial of healthcare insurance claims in the US. Case in point,
the company went as far as to deploy an AerR
(27:26):
prone AI algorithm in twenty twenty three to override claims
to elderly patients that have been approved by their doctors.
I can understand where this doctor's coming from. The insurance
representative in their little, tiny metal desk, and that little
(27:47):
cubicle is trying to find a way to save money
for United Healthcare System by denying an overnight stay of
the patient after a surgical procedure. And they're trying to
cut their costs down by saying, look, send the patient
home so that we don't have to pay this outrageous
overnight care that maybe this patient doesn't need. And so
on its face, yeah, that's outrageous to be badgering a
(28:10):
surgeon in the middle of a surgical procedure of a patient,
no question about it. But it's a double edged sword, folks.
If there wasn't such overutilization of surgery, meaning unnecessary surgery,
going on in this country every turn, every single thing
from unnecessary you know, c sections to episiotomies, you go
(28:32):
right down the line, gallbladder surgery. There's so many of
these particular surgeries that could be handled in different ways.
But look, if you can make a fortune at cutting, slicing,
dicing and doing procedures, and you've got the license and
the wherewithal to do it, you're going to do it.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
And it's often abused.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Now, there are a lot of honest surgeons out there
who will only do necessary surgeons, but there are plenty
of doctors out there who look every case over and
they go, oh, okay, so let's see, I can double
my I can double my income here on this patient
if I do this, that and the other thing to
(29:15):
them when it may or may not be necessary. And
this is why there's been so much abuse in the
insurance system with the medical system that of course they're
on they're trying to cut costs because they have been
ripped off, and then our rates go up big time,
and then we all wonder why we're paying more insurance rates.
It's amazing how now the the medical systems decrying this
(29:40):
after years of abusing the system. It's an outrages. It's
an outrage on a number of levels. You pick the
one you think is most outrageous. All right, we'll come
back with more of your telephone calls and questions here
on the Doctor Bob Martzen Show.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
So you s.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
So good.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
I'm a buzz of number.
Speaker 3 (30:16):

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Eight eight to to.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Very shortly after we get to this week's installment of
the product recall of the week.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Oh, here we go again. This is a big one.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Canned tuna sold at YEP, none other than Trader Joe's.
Also Costco's involved, Walmart's involved, and.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
More.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Recall is due to botulism risk of can tuna tuna
Brandjenova Van Camps or various store brands was recalled due
to risk of botulism. Triunion that's the company that is
the brand label Tri Union Seafoods is recalling certain can
(31:45):
tuna products sold at Costco, HTB, Kroger, Trader Joe's, Walmart,
and other stores. There was a defect apparently in the
manufacturing the easy open poll tab on the lid of
the tuna branded as Genova, Van Camps or other various
store brands, and without proper ceiling. That ceiling on the
(32:10):
easy open pull tab on the cana tuna. The company

Speaker 4 (37:31):
Present the top ten states with the highest smoking costs.
Here we go.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Smoking costs more than six hundred billion per year. Wallet
Hub calculated the potential monetary loss is brought on by
smoking and the exposure to second hand smoke, so here
they are number ten on the list. Washington number nine
on the list of top ten states of the highest
smoking costs.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Alaska.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Number eight is the beautiful state of Hawaii, which really
surprised me. Number Sevenda sixth, Connecticut number five on the
top ten list of highest smoking costs in America, Rhode
Island four, Massachusetts three, Maryland number two comes in a
district Columbia and the number one state with the highest smoking.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Cost in America. Can you guess what it is? If
you guess New York, you got it right, all right.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
We move right from the top ten states with the
highest smoking cost to the health mystery of the week,
the mystery of time of day when people feel the
best good morning. Their words of comfort offered a course,
but it turns out things do seem better in the morning.
(38:46):
According to British scientists, that's what they've gleaned. People generally
wake up feeling in the best frame of mind in
the morning and the worst around midnight, according to a
large study by the University College London. The day of
the week and seasons also have an impact on the
nation's happiness levels, with Tuesday and summer amongst our most
(39:12):
upbeat times. Experts analyzed data from almost fifty thousand adults
and they looked at this to get these numbers and
get their impressions of what are happening. And the researchers
looked at variations and mental health such as depressive and
anxiety and symptoms, and happiness and life satisfaction and sense
of well being and worthwhile, loneliness and all of that,
(39:36):
and the results showed that happiness, life satisfaction, and worthwhile
ratings were all higher on Mondays and Fridays then on Sundays,
and happiness was also higher on Tuesdays. So research at
UCL's Department of Behavioral Science and Health solved the mystery.
(40:00):
On average, people's mental health and wellbeing are better in
the morning and worse at midnight. And we should be,
of course at midnight, saw on some big time logs,
so who cares anyway, But it's still qualified as the
health mystery of the week because once again it talks
about and discusses the body clock and how our bodies
(40:24):
circadian rhythms are impacting our health our well being both physically,
mentally and emotionally. That's the health mystery the week, all right,
I want to encourage you to make it a healthy
day and a healthy week. You've been tuned into the
Doctor Bob Martin Show, Be Well,
