with the division, the hate, the violence that's tearing our
country apart. Do you believe love could actually be the
(02:10):
answer or do you think that's just wishful thinking. Maybe
you've got a story about how kindness saved your life
or how loneliness nearly broke you. Whatever it is, we
want to hear it. Call us eight hundred six zero
six eight eight two two. And if you've missed our
(02:30):
broadcast live no sweat, just head over to doctor Bob
dot com, where you can catch every episode plus submit
questions for Doctor Bob and myself to tackle. That's doctor
Bob dot com. Spell out the word doctor doct o
r Bob dot com, or by calling us at eight
hundred six zero six eight eight two two. Now, let's
(02:53):
talk about what we have to address in Washington, in
all the way down to our own circles of love ones.
We're living in a world where mass shootings dominate the headlines,
and maybe even so often that are we becoming desensitized
where these political divisions they run deeper than the Grand Canyon,
(03:15):
and where hey, it gets more clicks than the acts
of kindness. But what if the solution isn't more laws,
or more walls or more weapons, but more love. Yeah,
I said it love, And not the Hallmark card, the
(03:37):
fluffy stuff kind, but the gritty, the radical, the roll
up your sleeves and do the work kind of kindness.
The kindness that demands we see each other's humanity before
we see each other's politics. The kindness that says, I
don't agree with you, but I refuse to hate you.
(04:02):
I want to hit you with some hard facts. Loneliness
is deadlier than obesity or smoking. A lack of social
connection increases your risk of premature death by nearly fifty percent.
And that's on par with smoking fifteen cigarettes a day.
And that's not just my talk, that's according to recent studies.
(04:26):
And hate it literally makes you sick. Chronic anger and
resentment spike cortisol levels, It leads to inflammation, it leads
to heart disease and even cancer. And that's from an
Ohio State University study. And you know what else, love
heels breast cancer patients with a strong social support network.
(04:50):
They have a sixty six percent lower mortality rate. That's
from those that are face the diagnosis alone. And that's
according to a twenty twelve step So why aren't we
talking about this because love doesn't sell ads. Outrage gets
(05:10):
the clicks, so does fear, and so does division. But
here's the truth. We're not just fighting for better health.
We're fighting for a better world and maybe even our lives.
So what do we do? Which I want to get
(05:30):
in more detail later, but briefly, we need to teach
emotional intelligence in our schools that kids who learn empathy
and conflict resolution, they don't grow into adults who reach
for guns. And we need to build these micro communities
like we used to. You know, check on your neighbors,
(05:54):
host potlucks, and create spaces where people feel seen and
feel valued. We maybe need to demand policies that prioritize
these connections. Why aren't insurers covering social prescriptions like support groups?
(06:16):
This would be good for isolated seniors. And this isn't
about left or right. It's about life or death. It's
about choosing love over fear, that connection over division, in
healing over hate. Hates a word that's often associated with sides,
(06:38):
whether that's left or right, and love is a word
that's associated with unity. So let's unite and let's start
this conversation because this may be the only way to
turn that division around. Let's change the game with the
healing power of love. As we're talking about, we live
(07:01):
in this world where headlines they scream of the mass shootings,
the political polarization, and the racial tensions in that warfare,
whether that's mind or with weapons, the common thread, it's
a profound lack of love. I'm not talking about the
romanticized version, but the kind that demands empathy, the understanding
(07:27):
in the action. Love is often dismissed as soft or
idealistic in the face of hard problems that we face.
Like gun violence or the systemic racism. But what if
love is actually the most radical and practical solution we have.
(07:49):
This isn't about holding hands or singing kumbaya. It's about
recognizing that hate thrives where connection dies. Mass shoot are
often isolated individuals who felt unseen. And there's absolutely no
good reason for any of these shootings or killings. And
(08:11):
I don't care what background you come from. We are
all humans and deserve to be seen and heard, but
not through shootings political extremism. It's growing in people feel
unheard and radical divisions persist when we refuse to acknowledge
(08:31):
each other's humanity. Love, the real love, is the antidote
because it rebuilds bridges instead of walls. Doctor Bob and I,
we just spoke on mass shootings, and then again we
have another senseless shooting, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a
(08:53):
man that, while everyone may not have agreed with, still
challenged debate peacefully and was a husband and father, Another
act of violence that we need to address as a nation.
So join me as we explore the root the roots
(09:16):
of hate and violence why they flourish in society's lacking
compassion and how love dismantles division. We should look at
practical ways to foster connection and families, our communities and
even our nation, and what the science is behind loving
(09:36):
and kindness, some proven health benefits for individuals and societies alike.
Maybe we can go over some actionable solutions, the policy changes,
the community initiatives and personal practices to make love a
cultural force rather than a fleeting emotion. Let's begin with
(09:58):
why hate wins win, love sleeps. We're gonna get into
this a little bit more after the break, and we're
gonna get some audio from Health and Human Services Secretary
RFK Junior about these mass shootings. So I want you
to go anywhere, and while it's time to take that
pausing and quick breather, I want you to go ahead

(12:54):
health deserves the spotlight. We've been talking about mass shooting
and how we need to stop letting hate win, and
we need to wake up and have a little bit
more empathy for everyone. I want to go ahead and
have you listened to what Health and Human Services Secretary
(13:14):
Robert F. Kennedy Junior said about mass shootings just days
before the Kirk assassination.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
You mentioned suicides, especially among teenagers. There is a debate
over mental health and firearms in this country and the
impact on children's health. Was there ever a discussion of
looking at firearms and the health of our children related
to that? So those two questions, pesticides and firearms, thank you, Oh.
Speaker 7 (13:43):
What's the question? The firearms question, we're doing research. The
firearms question is a complex question and it's not an
easy question. The violence is what we're concerned with. This
sudden onsetify once they began in the nineteen nineties where
(14:04):
people would do something that has never been happened in history,
which is somebody walks into a school or a church
or theater and starts shooting strangers. We had lots of
guns when we were kids. We had comparably the same
number of guns. Nobody was doing that. We had gun
clubs at my school. Kids brought guns to school and
(14:25):
we're encouraged to do so. And nobody was walking into
schools and shooting people. So and this is not happening
in other countries. Switzerland has a comparable number of guns
as we do, and the last mass shooting they had
was twenty three years ago. We're having mass shootings every
twenty three hours. Oh, there are many many things that
(14:48):
happened in the nineteen nineties that could explain these. One
is the dependence on psychiatric drugs, which is in our
country is unlike any other country in the world. It
could be there could be connections with video games, with
social media, a number of things, and we are looking
(15:10):
at that at an age. So we are doing studies now.
We're initiating studies to look at the correlation and the
connection potential connection between over medicating our kids and and
this violence and these other possible co founders as well.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
The points RFK Junior are making are very valid and
they need to be studied. We need to make sure
our public spaces in our schools are safe for our
children in ourselves. But what do we know that is
most mass shooters share one trait, and that is profound isolation.
(16:01):
Research shows that social rejection activates the same brain regions
as physical pain. So when people feel invisible or discarded
by society, some turn their pain outward violently because no
one turned inward to help them heal. Now we cannot
(16:22):
continue to accept these shootings without intervention. An example of
this is that the twenty twenty three Nashville school shooter
left writings describing years of bullying without intervention. So what
might be a solution here is early mentorship programs like
Big Brothers Big Sisters that we know reduce delinquency or
(16:47):
youth jailings. Their rates they drop by forty six percent.
So imagine scaling this nationally with trained, trauma informed advocates.
Beings that we're wired for tribalism. It once helped us
survive predators, but now pits us against them. Social media
(17:11):
algorithms exploit this by feeding divisive content to us. The
counteraction to this may be deliberate exposure to diverse perspectives,
which is known as contact theory. It many times reduces prejudice.
Programs like living room conversations train people to discuss polarizing
(17:35):
topics without dehumanizing opponents. So a policy idea for this
might be mandate media literacy education that teaches critical thinking
over reactive outrage. Now, let's talk about how loving each
(17:56):
other rewires society, and it rewires are brains our bodies.
The neuroscience of compassion that those acts of kindness trigger oxytocin.
That's your love hormone, which lowers the court is all
the stress hormone that's linked to heart disease. So chronic
(18:18):
anger and hate elevate inflammation markers that are tied to
cancer and autoimmune disorders. So if we could just raise
those oxytocin levels, those love hormone levels. An example of
a community that was taking charge is Camden, New Jersey.
Their police disbanded the force and rebuild it after they
(18:41):
had corruptions and scandals, and they rebuild it on community
policing principles like walking beats and conflict mediation training. The
result was homicides dropped by sixty three percent. And what
about the idea of teaching emotional intelligence in schools. That's
(19:01):
probably a word you've never heard of, emotional intelligence. Academic
success alone doesn't guarantee a thriving life. Research shows that
emotional intelligence, like self awareness, empathy, and relationship skills, they
predict long term well being better than just your academic IQ.
(19:26):
Yet most curriculum if focus on standardized tests, leaving kids
unequipped to handle the stress, or resolve conflicts, or understand emotions.
The RULER program which means recognize, understand, label, express, and regulate.
(19:48):
This RULER program from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence
trains educators to integrate emotional IQ into classrooms, so studies
as students, they they learn to recognize that's the r
emotions in themselves. The U is understand what triggers feelings
(20:09):
like my anger often mask fear l's label emotions precisely,
like what is frustrated versus mad? The ein RULER is
express express feelings constructively through maybe art, writing, dialogue, walking, exercise.
(20:31):
All these things can express feelings constructively and finally regulate
your reactions through mindfulness techniques. The results schools that use
this Ruler technique assault ten percent higher GPA averages in
fifty percent fewer bullying incidents. So maybe a practical steps
(20:54):
for this emotional IQ is daily check ins. Maybe the
teacher asks to start the day, how are you feeling today?
Do you feel overwhelmed or hopeful? Normalizing that vulnerability, we
can't continue to think well. Our grandparents show no motion.
They also didn't deal with what society has today, the
(21:17):
social media, the cyber bullyan society has changed so much
even in the last decade, that old school mentality can't
be a one size fits all mentality. So folks were
coming up on a break and this is going to
be a topic we're gonna continue to discuss in weeks.
But I do you want to get to some caller
questions next, so before you don't don't go off too

Your health journey matters to us and we're here to
help you every step of the way. Before we get
into some caller questions, I want to talk about something
that most people dread, and that's the dentist's chair. That
moment when they peer into your mouth, in your praying,
they don't say we need to talk. Well, here's my
(23:33):
not so secret weapon. That's the spray dental defense system.
This is what my entire clinic team, my family, Doctor
Bob and his family, and yes, even my dental hygienis
used to keep our mouths in check. Here's the game
changer for Spry. It's xylotol. This plant based It's a
powerhouse that isn't just sweet, It's a full on dental bodyguard.
(23:56):
It fights cavities, knocks out plaque, and kicks bad breath
to the curb. And Spry packs it with every product
their toothpaste, the mouth rents, the gum and the mints.
They flavors like peppermint, cinnamon and spearmint, all those flavors
that you love and none of the guilt. So my
routine I brush with Spry toothpaste, I rinse with Spry
(24:19):
mouthwash and pop a piece of Spry gum after meals.
It's like having a dental hygienis in your back pocket.
In the best part, no drastic habit changes are needed.
You just swap what you're already using for Spry and
let xylotol work its magic. Imagine you're Dennis leaning back
and saying, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. That's the
(24:41):
Spry effect. And you'll find it at CVS right aid
target sprouts in natural grosers, pretty much anywhere good oral
care lives. If you want to know more, head over
to clear dot com. That's spelled x L E A
R dot com. Those are the same geniuses behind clear Sprays,
which I also thank belone in your wellness toolkit. So
(25:05):
the bottom line, if you want a mouth that's as
healthy as it is fresh, it's time to go spry
your teeth in your dental hygienis well. Thank you. All right,
let's get to some collar questions. First up, we have
a call from Hawaii.
Speaker 11 (25:22):
Hello how doctor Martin and doctor Brockman, thank you for
all you do to help people. Three years ago, my
wife was rushed to the hospital for extreme dizziness. Initially
they thought it was a severe case of vertigo. She
was experiencing feelings of the floor dropping, spinning sensations at
any given time, blurred vision, and feeling of being on
(25:44):
a plane with severe turbulence, all of which over time
cause he had to get nauseous, have slurred speech see
double vision, numbness especially in her limbs, and head pressure
with her ears felt plug. After visiting with multiple doctors
from E and T specialists, neurologists, vestibular audiologists, physical therapists,
(26:07):
and having two MRIs and three catscans, she was diagnosed
with vestibular migraine, which they say has no known cure.
Could you please share your knowledge and experience on this topic.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
All Right, helloha, my friend, and thank you for calling
from Hawaii with a question about your wife. First, let
me say I can only imagine how difficult it's been
watching her go through three years of severe dizziness, spinning sensations, nausea,
blurred in double vision, numbness, head pressure, and all the
(26:45):
rest that you mentioned. Vestibular migraine. It's one of those
conditions that can truly term someone's quality of life upside down.
And while conventional medicine often tells us there's no cure,
in the world of functional medicine, we look at these
things a little bit differently, not as a life sentence,
(27:07):
but as a challenge to dig deeper and to restore
that balance in the body. So let's unpack this. Vestibular
migraine is thought to be the type of migraine that
primarily affects the balance centers of the brain. The triggers
they can vary widely, anything from stress or poor sleep,
(27:27):
even hormonal fluctuations, to food sensitivities, dehydration, or even a
dysfunction in that gut brain axis. What makes it tough
is that these symptoms they don't always look like that
classic headache or migraine. Instead, the symptoms show up as dizziness,
vertigo in neurological changes. Now, when doctors run these the MRIs,
(27:52):
the ct skins and send folks to specialists, it's usually
to rule out things like tumor strokes are in disorders.
Once those are cleared, you often get the label that
of what your wife has, that vestibular migraine, and unfortunately,
too often patients that are left with little more than
(28:14):
those symptom managing drugs. But let's talk more about what
you can do naturally. One of the first things I
recommend is focusing on stabilizing blood sugar and eating an
anti inflammatory diet. Many migraine suffers, including the vestibular types,
they're sensitive to common triggers like caffeine, alcohol, age, cheese,
(28:37):
processed meats, or foods that are high in those artificial additives.
I recommend keeping a journal to identify patterns between diet
and symptom flare ups. That can be something that's hugely revealing.
The second piece is to address the gut There's a
lot of research now on the gut brain connection. How
(28:58):
it the imbalances in it in the gut microbiome can
fuel inflammation that affects the brain. This is where probiotics
can be powerful allies. A clinically studied formula like doctor
Ohiras Probiotics from essential formulas can help to restore a
healthier gut ecosystem, which in turn supports a calmer nervous system.
(29:22):
I also suggest looking at magnesium. It's another nutrient almost
always bring into the conversation for migraine patients. It plays
a role in those nerve signals, the vascular tone and
the stress response, and many people are deficient in this.
Foods like leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, and almonds are great sources,
(29:42):
but supplementation can also be helpful, and sun Warrior has
great magnesium options. And I also recommend that you have
your wife checked out by not only a chiropractor, a
physical therapist, and maybe even an acupuncturist. Sometimes you can
find somebody that may be skilled in all those areas
(30:05):
in almost like a one top shop, one stop shop.
So I recommend going out and finding somebody that knows
about balanced balance related therapies, and finally, stress management is huge,
whether that's meditation, gentle, yoga, or even breathing. Calming that
nervous system reduces that excitability that can trigger these dizzy spells.
(30:27):
So to your question, while there's may not be a
cure in the conventional sense, there are definitely pathways to
improvement and sometimes even remission with a natural approach. It's
about reducing triggers, supporting the nervous system, nourishing the gut,
and calming the inflammation. Your wife doesn't have to just
accept this as her forever reality, So folks, keep those
(30:52):
questions coming. At eight hundred six zero six eight eighty

Spelling out the word doctor docto r bob dot com. Now,
before we get to another caller question, I have more
to say about the empathy that we need as a
nation moving forward and not taking sides all the time.
If we could prescribe love in a pill form, I
(35:38):
think it would be hailed as the greatest medical breakthrough
of the century. But here's the truth. Love isn't passive
or nice to have. It's an active force that dictates
whether our children grow up in schools where they feel
safe or fearful, whether our elderly live longer or they
die sooner, and whether at answer patient survives or subcumbs
(36:02):
to despair from that disease. Now we stand at a
crossroads where technology connects us globally, yet it leaves us
emotionally starved. We have more so called friends online than
ever before, but fewer shoulders to cry on in real life.
The solution isn't another app. It's looking up from our
(36:25):
screens and seeing each other fully flawed, fragile, and worthy
of love exactly as we are now. Again, I want
to go over some of these things are so important,
like demanding emotional intelligence education in school. We need to
continue to ask those questions, ask school administrators to teach
(36:47):
empathy alongside algebra, because a child who can resolve conflicts
won't grow up into an adult who reaches for a gun.
And I mentioned building micro communities, guarding small, check on
neighbors weekly, organize potlucks that mix generations and cultures. And
(37:08):
maybe we need to start thinking about reframing those health
policies like having ensures. They should cover social prescriptions, those
support groups for isolated seniors, they should cover those, just
like blood pressure, medication. Love. It isn't that soft science.
(37:29):
It's the science of survival. Now, let's stop debating violence
in value kindness and start practicing it like our lives
depend on it, because in the world we live in now,
it does. All right, I want to go ahead and
get to our next question from Lueta in Marion, Illinois
(37:51):
or Marion, Iowa.
Speaker 9 (37:53):
Yeah, this is Louetta Marian, Iowa. I just called a
little bit ago, and you can discard that phone call
because so I don't know I was a mess. I
do want to thank you for answering my question about
the out of the products, But what I really want
to know is what do you do about man moves
and frequent urination. This person is a wreck. They're not
(38:16):
sleeping they're up all night peeing, and so what could
be done about that? And would call a curb address
either of those problems. Thank you very much for your show.
I enjoy it and for taking the time to answer
my question.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
All right, thank you, Lueta, and folks, we did answer
a more pressing question to Luetta. We had her our
staff call her and reach out, so we got that
issue solved. And that is one of the benefits of
our telehealth option. If you do have pressing questions that
need just a little bit more than what we can
answer on air, I encourage you to use that resource.
(38:56):
All you got to do is go to doctor Bob
dot com and look for that tele health option. And
I also want to remind listeners that there many times
Doctor Bob and I can't get to all the on
air questions or all your questions that you're calling in
on air or the email questions, but we do have resources.
We do look at all of those, and we have
staff contact you. So if you haven't heard your question
(39:17):
for a couple of weeks, we are getting to it.
We do try to respond to every question. So all right,
so Lueta, thank you again for following up with that.
Another important question here. You've described a situation that a
lot of people can relate to, even though it's not
often talked about openly. And that's what we call a
(39:38):
medical terms guy no cal mastia, that is the enlargement
of the breast tissue in men. And you also mentioned
frequent urination at night and poor sleep because of the
constant trips to the bathroom. So as the challenge is,
they're frustrating and disruptive, but I'm going to give you
some natural strategies to work with that. Let's go ahead
and talk about those man bootbes. This comes from basically
(40:02):
a hormonal imbalance, specifically too much estrogen activity in the
brain that's in the body that's compared to testosterone. As
men age, it's common for this testosterone levels to decline
an estrogen activity to be more pronounced. So certain medications
excess alcohol and weight gain around the belly can disrupt
that hormone balance. Now, as far as frequent urination and
(40:26):
poor sleep, these are often tied to prostate health, So
I think as far as addressing that, we need to
look at some of the supplements like salt, palmetto and
beta C sterile, which is a plant based compound with
a long history of prostate health improvements and as far
as the caliicurb that's mainly for some weight management that
(40:46):
hunger hormone. You can visit calicurb dot com. That's c

doctor Adam Brockman, and we're coming to the close of
another powerful episode of the Doctor Bob Martin Show. Now, folks,
before we wrap up this important conversation today, I encourage
each and every one of you to basically do these
(43:44):
three things. First, grab whatever device you're listening to and
call us at eight hundred six zero six eight eight
two to two. That's eight hundred six ero six eight
eight two to two. We want to hear your stories
about how love has impacted your health. Maybe it was
a neighbor's kindness during your cancer treatment, or how joining
a community group pulled you out of depression when antidepressants failed.
(44:07):
The lines are open and we're waiting for your voice. Second,
the moment this episode ends, head over to doctor Bob
dot com and find health resources our entire podcast library,
or simply re listen to this episode. And Third, this
is a big one. I need you to share this
episode with three people who needed the message the most today.
(44:30):
Maybe it's your cousin who's drowning in loneliness, or your
coworker who's always angry, or maybe it's even that Facebook
friend that's constantly posting divisive political rants. Courage you to
tag them with hashtag prescribe love, and let's start a
revolution of connection and love. Let's be honest for a moment.
(44:52):
The powers that be want us divided. They profit from
our sickness, our isolation, and our endless scrolling through outrage.
Because here's the ugly truth they don't want you to know.
Healthy connected communities don't need their pills, the endless wars,
or the manufactured media crisises. But today we drop the
(45:17):
truth that should change everything. Love isn't some fluffy Hallmark sentiment.
It's the most powerful, underutilized medicine on planet Earth. We've
got the true science to prove it. Like a twenty
second hug that releases oxytocin that lowers your blood pressure
better than most hypertensive medication, and that's from a University
(45:40):
of North Carolina study, Or the strong social connections that
slash your risk of heart disease by fifty percent that
outperformed statins, says the Harvard School of Public Health, and
Loneliness triggers inflammation at levels comparable to chronic smoking. And
that's a study from Brigham Young University. So here's your
(46:03):
official prescription for myself and take as needed and maybe
a little extra that's encouraged. So get a daily connection dosed.
Get it from a friend, a family member, a neighbor.
Let's create community vitamins like a create a group, a
book club, a walking club, whatever it might be. And
(46:25):
let's practice some empathy because now I know what some
of you are thinking. This all sounds nice, but will
it really change anything, to which I say, look at
the science. The research proves that every act of connection
creates a ripple effect. You've been listening to the Doctor
Bob Martin Show. Have a good day.
